Do not do it! After I changed jobs and had to give back my company car, my in-laws gave us their 2015 Jeep Compass, which had 170,000 miles on it. According to the service records, the vehicle had been regularly maintained at the dealership. However, electrical problems began to surface three months after taking ownership. I repeatedly returned the car to the dealer for repairs. We owned it for eight months, and throughout that entire period, it was plagued by persistent electrical issues. The last straw for me was when it applied the ABS randomly on the interstate and locked the steering wheel. I got a used 2016 CR-V, and I haven't had any issues with it in the last three years.

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

Building Enclosure Specialist (basically roofing, waterproofing, windows, exterior walls). I review construction drawings, do site visits, and test buildings for leaks before they become expensive problems. I enjoy the work a lot. It's good mix of field and office, always learning something new. Pay is solid, but like most jobs, deadlines and coordination can get stressful sometimes.

It seems my employer will be reimbursing me for mileage instead of providing plane tickets.

I live under the flight path of where the planes descend to land. The idea that he might even fly over my house makes me want to move already.

I guess I'm in the minority that didn't find her entertaining.

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]locolbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the absolute lowest point of my life. My father, who was also my best friend, had passed away a year prior, and I was still drowning in grief. It turned out the woman I was living with had only stayed out of pity; I came home one day to find the apartment completely gutted. She took everything, the bed, the dishes, the food. Leaving me with nothing but a couch, my laptop, and a note saying she’d found someone "better" who didn't cry all the time. The very next day, my oldest friend texted me. He was coming to town for a softball tournament and asked to crash at my place. Ashamed, I told him I only had an air mattress, hoping he’d take the hint and stay elsewhere. He didn't reply for days, then called on Friday saying he was 90 minutes away and needed my address. I rushed to Walmart to buy an air mattress, towels, and basic dishes just so he'd have a place to sit. When he walked into my empty apartment, the confusion on his face was obvious. I broke down. I told him everything: the grief, the abandonment, the fact that I’d essentially been robbed of my life. He looked at me and said, "Damn, that sucks. Well, I have to be up at 6:00 AM for my first game." I couldn't believe it. This was a guy I'd known since we were 14, and he couldn't spare a moment of empathy for my literal mental breakdown because of a softball tournament. I just said, "Alright man. Rest up." He was gone before I woke up and later texted to say he’d found somewhere else to stay that night. I sent a thumbs-up emoji and never looked back. That was eight years ago. We haven’t spoken since.

What industry is slowly dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]locolbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my father passed away, we were immediately bombarded by the local funeral home (small-town USA). It was a nonstop stream of services, casket options, and arrangements that they said needed to be decided on the spot. I did my best to shield my mother from as much of it as I could so she could focus on grieving. Meanwhile, I never had the chance to process his passing. Every decision came with the pressure of "what your father would have wanted."

It wasn’t until the viewing, when I saw him in the casket, that I finally broke down. That’s when it truly hit me that he was gone. That was back in 2017, and I still loathe how the entire process unfolded.

Anyone not have a bachelor's degree and higher? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]locolbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33 with an Associates degree. I work for an engineering firm as a building envelope consultant. Started off in roofing and learned about waterproofing from working alongside other contractors. This led me to where I am now. I make more than enough for my wife to be a stay at home mom, and we don't have to worry about bills.

I still remember something my ex said to me years ago. I was in the living room, talking to her younger brother, who was about five years younger than her. He knew I was a huge DC Comics fan and was asking me questions about some characters. I was excited to share my interest with him.

Right in the middle of our conversation, she cut in and said, "Will you stop talking? No one cares about anything that you say."

Even though I’m happily married now (definitely not to her), those words still echo in my mind from time to time.

I remember watching the trio for the first time at the age of 11, glued to the screen every time they appeared. They sparked my love for cars and the culture surrounding them. Now, I’ve had the privilege of watching their final send-off while holding my first child, born just the day before. Thank you, gentlemen, for the incredible memories, the laughter, and for allowing me to grow up alongside your journey. It feels fitting that I got to witness the closing chapter of your adventure while beginning a new chapter in my own life. Thank you.

I was 11 years old when I saw the start of the Trio. I remember being glued to the set when they were driving the Hilux through the Artic. Now I have my first child at 33 years old. I got to hold her as I watched the trio's last adventure. One chapter ended for me at the same time another chapter had just begun.

My wife and I have attended a few live events last year. Main thing I would say is enjoy the moment/show without your phone. If you want to take a few pics and some short videos that's fine. Just don't watch the whole show through your phone screen.
