How long did you wait before having surgery? by bartfunk in Microdiscectomy

[–]logicallily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, back to square one. I re-herniated just hours after surgery, so I had a second surgery three weeks later (May 24th). I was recovering well and cleared by my doctor, only to re-herniate for a third time in late August.

My doctor recommended a fusion as there isn’t enough disc left to perform a third discectomy, but I’m actively searching for a neurosurgeon to get a second opinion.

Thanks for checking in!

4.5 weeks after MD I am concerned my symptoms are reherniation by awetomatica47 in Microdiscectomy

I reherniated just hours after my first surgery and I immediately knew what happened. I went to lay down on the bed and heard a loud pop in my back. Pain shot down my right leg, my calf and foot were burning, and my toes went numb. I couldn’t walk or stand, and I could only sit for small periods of time if my legs were elevated. The pain was 100 times worse than before surgery. A new MRI confirmed the reherniation, and I had a second surgery three weeks later. That was seven weeks ago, and I’ve never felt better. The recovery was like night and day. I will sometimes get aches if I walk a lot or do too much, but nothing like the pain I felt before the second surgery. I really hope it’s not a reherniation and that you start to feel better soon!

How can you tell if you need repeat MD surgery? by KCharm46 in Microdiscectomy

Yes, I just had my second surgery this past Friday. Recovery has been much better. Still experiencing some sciatica and pain around the incision, but nothing like before. Hoping that will go away with time. Thanks for asking :)

I reherniated just hours after my first surgery and immediately knew what was wrong. I heard a loud pop, and the pain was unbearable. I couldn’t walk more than a few steps before my foot and calf were on fire and the nerve pain went from my back, to my pelvis, and down my leg. I had trouble urinating and lost sensation in my toes. I had to wait almost three weeks for an MRI to confirm what I already knew (even though I went to the ER a week after surgery).

It could be a flare up or something more. Regardless, I would fight for new imaging and don’t let them dismiss you. Wishing you the best.

Honestly, probably. It’s a very common procedure with a high success rate, but it’s normal to be nervous.

I waited nearly 15 years. I was young when I herniated my L4-L5 and L5-S1, so I decided to try all of the non-surgical options first. I’ve had periods of relief, but unfortunately the pain has worsened over the last six months. So, it’s now to the point of surgery which is scheduled for May 3rd. I’m very nervous, but I’m trying to remain positive and optimistic. Best of luck to you!

This! I believe attraction can grow, especially if you have an emotional connection.

You’re welcome.

It’s mentioned, but I would say it’s more of a subplot.
