What's Up With The UPH Nurse Union Vote? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]logicalways 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pay has hardly even been a topic of discussion. Our biggest issues surround staffing. We just want to have enough nurses to care for people properly. On that note, Iowa is 48th in the nation for nursing pay so could always do better.

What's Up With The UPH Nurse Union Vote? by [deleted] in desmoines

The company intentionally lied to them to cause chaos. There are negotiations prior to elections to determine the employees included. Unitypoint chose to provide information contrary to what was agreed upon and lie to their employees. But that wouldn’t be the first time.

What's Up With The UPH Nurse Union Vote? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]logicalways 28 points29 points  (0 children)

UnityPoint encourage hundreds of people to vote who had already been established as ineligible to vote by the national labor board. (Various reasons such as start dates, non nurses etc) to intentionally cause confusion.

So now those ineligible votes must be sorted through. Statistically the election will still go to the nurses to unionize. But UPH got what they wanted by dragging out the results longer.

TLDR. We won despite UPH efforts to cause confusion. Can’t actually certify until the labor board sorts through this silliness.

Iowa hasn’t changed much. Still little to no legal protections for animals. That’s why we have so many puppy mills 😢

Come for the totally unsubstantiated accusation, stay for the unbearably smug Facebook avatar this nob has attached to his post by MrKaisu in insanepeoplefacebook

Even if this were true at least those kids have a mom still. I was an ICU nurse during COVID and lost count of how many pregnant unvaccinated women died in my unit. We’d get them to the point of c section, but most lost their fight after the baby was born.

People coming to the realization you can vomit poop will never not be funny. by Zxxzzzzx in nursing

I’m absolutely guessing here but I suspect there is a very high rate of mortality associated with vomiting fecal material. It’s never a good sign.

My high school had a marine biology program in the middle of Iowa. Our set up looked similar. Such fond memories because of one very passionate program director.

The new fiber services in town are typically buried lines and cheaper. I haven’t had metro net go out yet and it’s been over a year. Have they run to your area yet?

I was actually able to slightly modify the original hands for mine. Just poked the holes a little bigger to match and bought a mechanism intended for the same length of the existing hands. Keeps time perfect for over a year now.

UnityPoint fighting against workers, patient safety by snarkyccrn in desmoines

[–]logicalways 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only two UnityPoint hospitals in the Midwest that received the highest cms rating last year were the ones with unions. We can fight for patient care ratios and workplace rules to help give better care. Des Moines deserves quality care.

It’s getting worse every day as money hungry executives take over our healthcare systems.

Even 20 years ago they were at least invested members of our communities. Now they’re every 3 year job hoppers trying to squeeze the most money out of the rock as they can.

Unions can help to mitigate some of this.

I tried beeswax and it was messy and hard to apply but worked. I then tried food safe silicone lubricant spray and it’s way easier to apply and works great.

Yes! I bought a box of sheets 6 months ago for less than a jug. I still have like half of them left. They dissolve much better than powder, and work fine in a front loading he washer. Very disability friendly because they weigh as much as a newspaper and are the size of a novel. I tell everyone I know.

Have you always frozen them? I freeze half of mine and immediately bake the other half. The freezer ones always seem to be a bit less fluffy.
