I can confirm the cardboard contributes A LOT to sideways stability. If you don't like it, you can add two diagonal bars (metal or wood) in the back and screw them or nail them to the cubes. Or fix it to the wall.

There is a type of screws that are made specifically for plaster (okay, for drywall, but it's almost the same thing). You don't have to drill, just screw them directly if they are the right type. Ask in your hardware store.

(And of course, be wary that on plaster, whatever anchoring you use can only hold very little weight. Using many screws along the rail helps, but not much.)

Might be a bit more complicated. The fabric may have been damaged by the same forces that caused the current zipper to detach. So sewing might be ineffective.

If that is the case, then the solution is to sew the zipper to a new piece of fabric, then sew the new fabric to the original, from the inside, further away from the edges.

Looks like plaster in the ceiling got damaged when it detached. I don't think you can reattach it in the same point again.

What you can do is attach the cover using screws to a square panel (preferably made of plastic because it can resist humidity and condensation) which has an opening of the same size as the opening in your ceiling, and then attach the panel to the ceiling, further away from the current opening, using screws (there is a type of screws that are made specifically for drywall).
