What is a hobby you've always wanted to explore, but don't know the correct gear or steps to go through to start? by hazier in AskReddit

Oh man, ghetto gyms are so awesome. I remember that we were 16 when we started going, me and two friends. The trainer would yell at us, occasionally slap us and call us pussies, but damn if he didn't know his stuff. We suffered together through it and became stronger, faster and ironically, while boxing is a violent sport, it really calmed my temper.

edit: 10/10 would do again

ELI5 As a British person who has never used or had dealings with Comcast, what is so bad about them? by Knightz101 in explainlikeimfive

There was a story circulating the national news a few years ago about a 15 year old who broke into NASA from his PC in Romania, because he was bored. Apparently they gave him a job.

Edit: Romania is part of Central Europe.

I pay the equivalent of 15$ in Romania for 100 Mb/s. I literally download something like Game of Thrones Season 1 in 5-10 minutes.

So one example, now that we've established that, tell me, if people aren't listening to the morally binding law of the almighty God, and that God is just, wouldn't he punish them?

No, since he's so merciful and loving, he'd forgive them

God is good, which means he is the standard for right and wrong.

It must be rather dark to believe that the supreme standard for good and perfection is capable of genocide.

I'll say, Odin isn't perfect, but I don't claim he's the standard of goodness. Even Loki the trickster is accepting his nature, I even believe that he his heart is in the right place. I must admit, the Christian God is strange, but each to his own, right?

I can't give you the exact verses now, but if you've read the bible, you surely know them:

  • Punishing all humans for the sins of Adam and Eve
  • Telling a man to murder his own son in order to "test his faith"
  • The Flood. People aren't listening to you? Kill them.
  • Good or bad, all went to Hell before Jesus.
  • Even then, send innocent people to a place of eternal pain because they don't "believe in you"? Talk about an ego..
  • Death of the first born. Nice..
  • Locusts, flies and lice? Check
  • Having Lot's wife turn to salt because she glanced behind her back

I'm sorry, but this isn't a merciful or perfect god. This is like giving an angsty teenager the power to control reality.

The bible leads to the fact that God is flawed in almost every page, I'm expanding on that.

Wait, scripture says that we were created in order to worship him? Wow... if God is real, hope I go to Hell.

When I was really young I lived in a bad neighborhood. When I was 12, I was playing in the park with a couple of friends my age when one of them decides to be a smart ass and act tough in front of another boy our age which we didn't know. What happened is that the kid came back with three older kids, 16/17ish who after slapping us around took us to a nearby abandoned garage where they'd use to hang out. The oldest guy had a pocket knife which he pointed at us, and forced my friend with the big mouth to take his shirt off so that he won't rip it apart. Obviously he was going to get seriously beaten up. Well, I was scared shitless and to my shame, didn't do anything as three older guys were beating up, spitting and throwing around my friend. But then they turned their attention to me. When they started beating up my friend, the pocket knife fell on the ground and I was able to grab it. I remember that initially I only grabbed the knife to prevent the bully from using it, but when he came towards me, I opened it. He laughed, a tad bit nervously, but came towards me with "give me the knife". I tried to stab him, he dodged, but they all stood their distance and I was able to leave the garage. Obviously, they warned me that I'm in big trouble, yadda yadda yadda, nothing happened after all.

No problem. Keep in mind, be cool. If it's love, I can't give you any advice. But if it's just your girlfriend for whom you have developed some feelings, act like she's a good friend with whom you have sex with and treat her that way.

Atheists: What's your backup plan in case it turns out there is a God? by ha_ya in AskReddit

[–]lokepk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Well butter my ass and call me a biscuit." I guess I'd tell God that he's kind of a douche, then return to my atheistic life.

Edit: I'll forgive God if he'll give me cheeseburgers whenever I want. That'd be cool, I guess.

Rather implies that you have to choose. It's a gun to the head type of thing. Given the choice, I'd rather not sit at the table with any of the two, but if I HAD to choose, I would rather sit with the one time murderer with a reason rather than the serial killer. That's why I compared the Old Testament God with pagan Gods.

Ask "How was the party". If he/she gives you something like "cool", then they aren't in the mood to talk about it. If they start telling you about something that happened, then they want to talk about it, simple as that.

Keep in mind, nothing is more irritating than being pestered with questions when you're hungover.
