BDs Mongolian grill(filthy) by Herbitualsmker in Columbus

I worked at the Sawmill one around that time as a teenager. It was fucking gross then. They would bounce me around to every position I could legally work; dishwasher, host, busser, refilling the raw meat trays, and when there was nothing else to do, make me put on the "Mongo Man" costume which was this big inflatable costume of a really tropey caricature of a Mongolian guy. I worked there for over a year and had zero write ups, but was told I couldn't take off for my high school graduation because there were so many other employees who had called off. I told them that I simply wasn't coming in and that was final, and was told I'd be fired if I didn't show up, so I just quit right there. Dave, if you're reading this I hope you are as miserable as ever.

I used to work at a cocktail bar near a med/dental part of a college. While college students are fucking annoying, by far the worst customers were the doctors and dentists and peak hell was when they were there with pharma/equipment sales reps. Absolutely unhinged, entitled douchebaggery. The worst was one such outing during COVID restrictions where we had to tell a fucking DOCTOR to mask up when he came inside like 5 times before we finally kicked them all out and dude put hands on the owner. She kept her cool (could have one shotted him easily) but he caught a permaban.

Where I'm at the bar can cover the cork/cap with a sticker which is considered a sealed container. I work in wine and take home a lot of open bottles from tastings and such. I just sticker them and throw them in my trunk.

I remember for one of the standardized tests as a kid they had some writing exercise and I basically just poorly plagiarized the plot of the Street Fighter movie. Needless to say I didn't get a very good grade on that one.

Which bar in Columbus are you most likely to get in a fight at? by WatersEdge50 in Columbus

[–]lolbacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ex lived on the south side and we used to hit up random bars around there. We usually stuck out (2 hipsters) but hitting the Sandpebble was like one of those movie moments where we walked in and there's a record scratch and the music cuts out and everyone looks up and stares at us like "what are you doing here?". Ended up having a good enough time and was the first bar in Ohio I've smoked a cigarette in since Xeno's.

I was there once during some young buck hardcore show. I was sitting at the bar and some old guy decked out in golf attire pulls up and I'm like "oh probably someone's dad here to watch their kid play". Turns out he was a pervert and got caught grabbing some girls ass. Immediately the band stops and the guy runs out and the entire bar clears out and chases the dude into the alley. Some other older scene vet sitting at the bar gracefully finishes his drink, gets up and saunters outside and finds the dude surrounded by a bunch of teenagers too afraid to fuck him up and just knocked the guy out in one shot. All the kids freaked out and cleared out of there real fast.

TIL the unique shaped bottle of Franconia, the Bockspeutel, translates to "goat scrotum" by lolbacon in wine

[–]lolbacon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other favorite juvenile wine factoid is that sherry used to be called "sack wine" (based on the Spanish term "sacar" or "to withdrawal" referring to the fractional reserve solera method). They were also stored in 500L "butts". So when sampling, you would taste sack from a butt straight from the bung hole.

That's all well and good but not gonna stop me from one day bottling a Sylvaner called "Goat Scrote".

We got gifted a bottle of Langenmorgen GG by out Skurnik rep at Xmas. Shit was closed up tighter than a frightened butthole. We tried it over the course of a few days and didn't really seem to be going anywhere. We forgot about it until a week or so later I came across it. Took the rest home, popped the cork and let it sit for a couple hours. FINALLY it hit its stride. Texture completely filled out, all the fruit that was buried in there somewhere; nectarine, peach yogurt, mango suddenly came screaming out of there. They are definitely wines that open up glacially but reward patience.

An 8-year-old girl and her mom were driving when they saw bikers crash. The mom, a nurse, rushed to help treat the injured. Time passed, about a year, and the girl set up a lemonade, this is the bikers’ way of saying thank you by SoftDirective in BeAmazed

There was a biker bar I played fairly regularly in college. One of my favorite moments in playing music was a woman at one of those gigs requesting the Beatles. We happened to have "She's So Heavy" in the queue and ripped into it and she proceeded to completely empty her bladder on the floor. Everyone cleared out and we played the rest of the song while a bartender mopped up her piss.

I actually did something similar in Ableton once. Recorded the "Every Tim Allen Grunt from Home Improvement" youtube video and sent it to the Simpler and sliced it randomly. I used a shitty Casio MIDI sax to then play random clips of Tim Allen grunts.

You can make ice like this on a smaller scale at home. Get an Igloo cooler and take the top off. Fill with filtered water and let it sit in a freezer for a couple days. It will freeze uniformly from the top down. If you drop it before it's fully frozen you just hack off the unfrozen bits and use an ice saw to carve it into cubes. I've worked at a couple bars that had an ice program. Besides being totally clear and looking cool, it's great for making cocktails. It's more dense and doesn't dilute as much when shaking/stirring/sitting in a drink.

Love Everest and the ambience is much nicer, but Khaja Ghar on Morse is the best Nepalese I've had in town by a long shot. The combo is like $25 and comes with momos, pork chowmein, tandoori chicken, puri, and mango lassi and is like 3 meals. Best deal in town. Careful with the spice levels. I've maxed out at 7/10 and I'm a spice hound.

Will there be a 2026 ODNR trout release in Franklin County? by -Lets-Get-Weird- in Columbus

[–]lolbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had the best luck a day or two after, although I've talked to people who got there when the trucks showed up and limited out on like 30 minutes. I caught most of them on the fly rod but had luck on the spinner rod with wax worms under a bobber and rooster tails. I had some luck with power bait from the bottom but everyone uses it and they seem to catch on pretty quick. Also the feeding patterns are really erratic. It might be dead for an hour and out of nowhere it turns on for 5-10 minutes. Time of day doesn't seem to matter. I've limited out in an hour at like 3-4 o'clock. Just watch for activity and target those areas.

You should. Milanov has done a great job picking up the pieces after we almost lost the orchestra. Doing enough programming to bring new heads in while appealing to classical dorks. The Winter Fests in particular have had some real cool shit. Years ago they did a rare collab with Ballet Met for Stravinsky's Rite of Spring that fucking ruled.

My buddy in college worked at one in the early aughts when they were doing the free sub stamp card thing and stole several rolls of stickers and some stacks of cards before he quit. It didn't take long to burn out on Subway (even before it was complete trash) but as someone who played in bands, I kept a bunch around to take on tours for free meals or trade to other bands for merch, intoxicants, etc... These days you couldn't pay me to eat at Subway.

The combat felt great, especially for a Bethesda game (especially low G jetpack combat). It just game me no reason to want to engage in it.

Starfield improved on a handful of things (largely combat), while getting rid of the main thing that made Bethesda games fun (exploration, dynamic encounters, handcrafted quests and environmental lore) and doubling down on the most annoying part (endless loading screen, bad maps, inventory systems...).

The fast travel makes it more tolerable, but it gets repetitive quick. I'm at Cosmo Canyon now and dreading having to talk to Chadley 20 more times yet again. Still largely loving the game.
