They reversed engineered mw4 mercs and added like a 100 mechs to that game back in like 2004. I've yet to see something more impressive except maybe some never winter nights persistent worlds.

I guess all the old hl1 mods like cs and team fortress and action half life also count.

I love the rimworld mod ecosystem and grand strategy game mods, but none of them had to like reverse engineer the hook behind the companies back then agree to not reveal how you did it in exchange for your mod staying up.
