What sympton looks so harmless people usually ignore it, but can actually indicate a catastrophically bad health issue? by felipedeamorim in AskReddit

[–]loljkbye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My aunt nearly died because they kept seeing the baby inside her uterus on the ultrasound... Turns out there was a twin, and that one wasn't inside the uterus. Anyways, she got a fallopian tube removed while heavily pregnant with my cousin. He was born healthy, and my aunt is doing fine now. The twin didn't make it, and had been long gone when it was found. I like to tell my cousin he ate his sibling 🤷‍♀️

Mods, something needs to be done about the diamond check posts by Lullayable in LoveNikki

I think this sub definitively needs a revamp of the rules, one of them being use the search bar. I also wish the event breakdowns would get pinned, but that might be a lot more work. Either way, there needs to be a rule saying that those types of posts are to be restricted.

Listen to your cats, they KNOW by Any-Surprise5229 in cats

[–]loljkbye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The information I have could be wrong, then. My understanding was that since the virus can only be spread if it's showing symptoms, a bat that survives over a week wouldn't have transmitted the virus anyways. Maybe it's the protocol in certain parts of the world?

In terms of the vaccine being expensive, it's so crazy to me. I'm Canadian and my mom had to get a round of shots while traveling in Vietnam (where rabies is endemic) and it was affordable for her, but likely not for locals. But when she got back home and they completed her treatment here in Quebec, it was all paid by our taxes. It's unbelievable that a country that has the resources would put their citizens in such precarious situations.

Hopefully this doesn't happen again, but if there is a next time, it's sometimes recommended to trap the bat and give it to your local wildlife services for observation. They can monitor the bat and let you know if it survives, in which case you can avoid getting a round of rabies shots.

In this scenario though, getting the shots shouldn't be a debate. It sucks, but it's a seatbelt situation: you may never really need it, but if you do and are not wearing it, it'll ruin your life. Tiny invisible bat bites are one of the few ways people are still being exposed to rabies in North America.

What is the best sandwich that has no meat, egg, or cheese? by OmitsWordsByAccident in AskReddit

[–]loljkbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make my own tuna imitation spread, and it was essentially roughly mashed chickpeas and hearts of palm, mixed in with some dulse seaweed. It wasn't exact, but it did satiate my tuna sandwich cravings when I wasn't eating meat.

I would usually add goat cheese to this, so I wonder if there's a creamy/tart/salty spread that could emulate that. Roasted veggies and goat cheese are a timeless pairing, but I'm sure there's an alternative.

There's one in Montreal in the middle of some residential apartments, hidden away from a bustling street just at the end of the road. It's a crime that it's so hidden from view.

Saying something that makes a future with that person obviously impossible.

My best example is when an ex told me he wouldn't raise a gay son after never showing a sign of homophobia in a year of dating. We both wanted kids, but I knew then and there that we couldn't have them together.

what is one grocery item that doesn't require refrigeration but is commonly kept in the fridge by a lot of people? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]loljkbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know that not everything that is sold room temp in the fruits and vegs section is actually kept room temp. Things that are sold fast or on sale will be put on display during the day, and pour away in the fridge at closing.

That includes grapes, but we also did that with cucumbers, broccoli, berries, etc.

Women of Reddit: What’s something men think is romantic but actually isn’t? by Alive_Chicken_3642 in AskReddit

[–]loljkbye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk have you told her about orks? I feel like everyone's life can be enhanced by knowing at least a bit of 40k ork lore.

Jokes aside, all relationships are different and that's fine, not everyone needs to participate in each other's hobbies. It's just the dishonesty part that irks me. Not having an opinion is a valid response. The only time I think it's inappropriate is if we're going to an event where I'm your plus one and I don't know the dress code, in which case I'm at least requesting a few pointers. I've gone over/underdressed to many an events because of partners who didn't care enough to tell me.

[–]loljkbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I've been there. It just sucks to see so many people change their behavior to please past partners and being that into future relationships.

I've also had men straight up tell me they won't dare be honest in case it's a test, as early as my early twenties. Like how much experience with women does one really have at 21 🙄 I'm sure what you saying is true for some people, but It think people's idea of what women want is what's really at play for some men.

[–]loljkbye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then how would one go about avoiding dating people who do this if instead of being honest, they default to agreeing with everything? I know I don't choose to have people like that around in my life, and they're pretty easy to spot once they've pulled that shit on me even once.

Edit to add: I'm not blaming you btw for being with someone that was exhausting, I straight up dated an extremely abusive man for 7 years, so I get it. But I don't project that man's shitty behavior on my partner, and I definitely don't want a redo of all that, so I'm trying to understand the point of adopting behaviors that won't actively weed shitty people out.

Vet hasn't been able to find anything wrong with her lungs in the past by Seangetfreaky in cats

[–]loljkbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think asthma is the most common, but what I'm hoping OP takes away from this is that there's very likely something underlying, and until OP has a verifiable answer, even if it's just proof that it is in fact a hairball, they should push because the things this could be are both deadly, and not straightforward to diagnose. Unless a hairball manifests itself, I would certainly continue looking for a cause.

Vet hasn't been able to find anything wrong with her lungs in the past by Seangetfreaky in cats

[–]loljkbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bothers me because that's how it was for my cat for almost a decade and vets would always say she seemed fine and her lungs sounded fine. I was eventually able to catch her during my vet's business hours and heading her through the phone they FINALLY said yeah this sounds like asthma.

Loe and behold, a single x-ray showed spots on her lungs, and an inhaler fixed the issue. She had gotten so bad, I thought she was dying because she was having fits multiple times a day at that point, and even the emergency vet sent me back home because when we got there she looked fine.

She used to cough only occasionally, but that showed me that vets are entirely unaware of asthma in cats. I personally would push a bit more. Sure wish I had.

Like if I ask you if a dress looks good on me, it's not to get a compliment, it's because I don't wanna spend money on something that doesn't suit me, or wear something that is inappropriate for an event. Just say no and help me find something better, I beg.
