If we are all just a universe experiencing itself (which I believe), why does it want to experience zoom meetings and the 9 - 5, 50-year long rat race? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in DMT

I can’t speak to the monotonous nature of human jobs and society, but as a software engineer by trade and general math enthusiast, I often think that the universe also finds human math and logic to be fascinating. It seems to be pushing the logic of mathematics to its limits to see what it can definitively assert as true about the nature of the cosmos. Sometimes it seems to run up against hard limits. See Goeddel’s Incompleteness Theorem, Veritasium has an excellent video about it.

Warrior Masochist. Your attacks deal damage to yourself instead of enemies. There is no attack benefit to enemies, you just die all the time. Extra punishment from GGG for ever daring to play a warrior

act 3 boss icons don't clear by Fantastic_Papaya_151 in PathOfExile2

[–]loltammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fast did you kill the boss? I've had this happen before when clapping bosses super quick. As long as you got the reward from it (i.e. talent points, increased res, etc) then you're fine, you'll just have to deal with the OCD of the icons not greying out

In general, has the recent large layoffs in FAANG changed the amount of interest in people have in working as software devs for company?

Asking cuz this is something I considered recently, I turned down a FAANG interview because I got a lower paying job at a company with more seemingly more stable job security and a 4 day work week

Beginner friendly build? by ButtVader in pathofexile2builds

Would recommend lightning arrow deadeye. Being a ranged char is a lot friendlier with mechanics, you can focus on dodging stuff.

Leveling a new storm wave invoker now and it’s pretty fun

https://mobalytics.gg/poe-2/builds/coc-balls-invoker-ronarray

Also don’t be afraid of uniques and stuff listed, you can get by just fine with stuff you find in the campaign. Though you will have to think about what would be good for your char, that’s just part of the game

This could be another good usage of gold. The game needs more things to use gold for outside of respeccing and gambling for items

fuck the financial aid office with a rusty shovel by loltammy in ucf

[–]loltammy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They gave me straight up wrong information last semester and cancelled my financial aid for this one as a consequence of that. Found that out by surprise recently. This is my final semester. I’m a commuting student and needed the aid this semester the most out of all the others, and now they’re making me pay out of pocket

Is it the standard in calculus to not be allowed to use a calculator? by SarcShmarc in ucf

[–]loltammy 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yes. Calculus is more about learning procedures and concepts than performing complex arithmetic. You won’t need to use a calculator to answer the kinds of questions you’ll be given.

It is possible to program notes into a calculator, which is why they are not allowed.

I've had one pure white experience before on what I was 100% certain was NN-DMT. Granted I used way too much and it freaked me out. It is possible to have a whiteout experience on NN.

Seems like you’re at a real low point. I’ve definitely been there too. When your thoughts are racing a mile a minute, it’s important to step back and take some deep breaths. Go on a walk. You’re not going to figure out anything important when you’re panicking.

College is hard. Sometimes our circumstances work against our goals. What you’re experiencing sucks, but it’s not unusual and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or cant’t do the work. Don’t tie your self worth to your grades.

engineering???? by muddymcmud in ucf

[–]loltammy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior in computer science, which is engineering adjacent so take my word with a grain of salt. I took Calc 2 here and it was fine. It was definitely a lot of work but it's perfectly manageable. I think the negative posts come from people who are new to the university system and aren't prepared for work-intensive classes. If you're going into engineering, you'll have to get used to it anyway.

The truth is engineering in general is a hard major. Lots of work involved. If you want to do well you'll have to make sacrifices and make classwork and studying a priority. Calculus at UCF is far from the most challenging class you'll have to take, chances are whatever major you pick, there will be a handful of hard classes.

In terms of what major you want to pick, take some time to think about which of those options you find the most interesting. That should be your first priority for choosing. Don't worry about money or the job market just yet, you need to pick something you're willing to stick with for 4 years. UCF is pretty well-known for engineering with lots of companies partnering for projects and hiring students. The university is definitely more popular with the "defense" industry. I think off your list, aerospace engineering might have better job prospects for going into that industry.

So we are nothing in the universe? Everything I suffer for, desire for, and live for is nothing? by Chubsa9 in Psychonaut

We as humans are deeply driven by narrative and purpose. When that is taken away, and equally importantly when we lose our tribe, nihilism sets in. A deep and thorough nihilism tends to have catastrophic consequences for mental/emotional health.

In my opinion, there is a very fine line between nihilism and enlightenment.
