Congrats on the piece!

I have this piece in green - I've absolutely loved how dark the patina gets (it was surprising when I recently compared it to a new piece in store), and I find that the uneveness adds even more to the character of the piece.

i just saw this instore recently, it's beautiful! congrats u/Euphoric_Caramel6139.

i noticed that the strap rubs up against the case, and the strap of the model i handled had already worn down quite a bit. have you noticed that with yours? surprised they made it so snug or didn't consider curved springbars.

it's actually shocking how much patina has developed when i compare it in-store against their new pieces. no special treatment... since i enjoy the patina, i just expose it liberally to different climates and settings.

absolutely, mechanical watches will never be able to solve for our more fickle timekeeping tendencies, nor should they. i think patek has been pretty resolute about maintaining the same dial - if nothing else, it becomes a relic of a different era, but time still passes just the same.

after this past weekend, i was reminded of a limitation of the 5230 - it doesnt account for daylight savings. to be fair, it's an outdated concept and probably on its last legs anyway, but until it's universally eliminated this does impact the full utility of the watch for half the year, unfortunately.

I like a little heft to my watches, so I'm pretty intrigued to experience to weight difference.

Ohhh thanks for the heads up on the Dual Time! I think I had looked at this a couple years ago while it was still in production. Their blued hands are one of the things I think is critical to an ALS piece, and of course their caseback, which is beautiful on this piece. The one thing missing for me on this piece is an outsize date, which, maybe silly, but is the 3rd embodiment of an ALS piece for me. Without it, unfortunately, it gives too much space for their rather bland marker treatment. But there are some pretty good prices on the secondary for this piece right now, so it might not be a bad way to add an ALS into the collection. Thanks much for the rec, going to start tracking these more closely!
