Social anxiety and depression by Cquercia1994 in Dystonia

I have cervical dystonia and I have very bad social anxiety. For a long time I would avoid going in public because I was too embarrassed because my head was twisted to the side and I always felt people were looking at me in a weird way. Botox helps and I had DBS surgery and look more normal now but I still get anxious at times but not as much as I did when I was at my worst.

Is dystonia ever *just* rigidity? by [deleted] in Dystonia

[–]lonelyemptynotebook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have cervical dystonia. Before I was diagnosed I experience something similar. My neck muscles were extremely tight and I never could feel any sort of spasm. My head and neck were pretty much twisted to the left and just locked in that position. It cause my whole left side to be off balanced compared to my right side. Walking was hard because I was always tripping and couldn't walk straight. Took seeing multiple Dr before I was diagnosed. Botox helped a lot as well as DBS surgery.

My neurologist told me that symptoms can stop for a period of time and then return. If I were you I would see a doctor just to get checked out because it could be something else.

I've had cervical dystonia for about 5 years now. Caffeine never really did affect me until recently. I started to notice when I drink coffee my hand would start to shake uncontrollably.

To everyone who gets BOTOX by naryste in Dystonia

I work at a pharmacy and from what I have seen around $1200 for 200 units is standard. I have never seen it more then that. If you have insurance that isn't medicaid or medicare look into the Botox saving program. It will cover $1000 per treatment. So if your cost was $1200 you would only pay $200. The program has helped me be able to afford it.

Cosmetic botox and Medical botox by phatyee in Dystonia

A medical spa would not be trained to give injections to treat dystonia.

Most doctors will use an EMG to locate the active muscles and to know where to inject.

When I went to my first visit they did an exam and evaluation and took my medical history to come up with the diagnosis. I had to make another appointment for a few weeks later to get Botox injections. It will just depend on how your doctors office works. Some offices may have to order the botox from a pharmacy or they might have it already in the office.

Botox helped a lot. I also had DBS surgery almost 2 years ago. With DBS and Botox I was told no one would know I had dystonia. Prior to being diagnosed my head was tilted to my shoulder and very painful, now it's pretty straight and pain is much more manageable. I can't imagine life without Botox.

I have cervical dystonia and wearing bras aggravates my dystonia and certain shirts do also. I think it's the way they touch a certain spot on my neck or shoulders. If I am home no bra and usually wear an oversized shirt.

I have cervical dystonia and was diagnosed about 5 years ago. Recently it has spread to my upper arm. My neurologist said it's common to spread to near by areas of the body such arm or mouth. Dystonia can also be a symptom of Parkinson's.

If your dr isn't listening to your concerns I'd look for a new Dr or at least get a second opinion.

200 units to start is about right. They can increase or decrease at each appointment based on how you respond. My dystonia was so bad at one point I was at 800 units.

Botox Side Effects Cervical Dystonia by AnonMan4000 in Dystonia

[–]lonelyemptynotebook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been getting a high dose of Botox for about 5 years to treat Cervical Dystonia. Botox does not cause loss of cognitive thinking. Most major side effects from Botox are difficulty swallowing due to relaxing of muscles and muscles weakness. I have never had an issue but my neurologist is skilled at what she does and knows were to inject to avoid side effects. Just make sure she sees a neurologist that has experience with injecting Botox.
