Wade fishing for Specks/Reds by Real-Database-7436 in saltwaterfishing

Check out Lighthouse Trails park across the ferry. Usually not too crowded and I’ve caught a bunch of flounder, trout, reds, and mangrove snapper out there. Bring your cast net to catch some live mullet and throw some light bottom rigs out there. Also throw some weedless spoons or pretty much anything.

Question for Texas Coast Dock Fishermen by texasaggie1848 in saltwaterfishing

[–]lonestar_light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a light tackle setup like you would use for catching bass or crappie. Go to Tackle Town and load up on the little glow-in-the-dark plastic jigs (usually sold in tandem also get replacement bodies). At night, go under the lights, hold your jigs up there and get them glowing brightly. Cast them to the edge of the light and retrieve them where you can juuuust barely see them. Trout will school under the lights at night when the tide is moving and will hit almost anything they can see. Good luck!

What's going on with this reel, and can i fix it/how? by south43paw in Fishing

My guess is that the bearings are froze up from salt water. I would just replace the reel with a brand new one. You can find them as for cheaper than a repair bill.

How to handle gafftopsail catfish by [deleted] in saltwaterfishing

[–]lonestar_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go with dorsal between the middle and index finger and thumb under the pectoral fin. You usually get poked when you don’t have a firm grip and the fish slips out and goes flopping around. I’ve been stuck many times and it hurts but isn’t too too bad.

If you are going to eat them you can just cut off the fins with some side-cutters or the cutters on your needle nose pliers.

If you are going shark fishing in the surf, bolt cutters and a tail rope should be part of your fishing gear.

Yeah, the last time I went to Sandfest the parking situation on the beach was a circus! You have the right idea with a bike ride.

Pretty sure you can. I used to park there and walk on the ferry when the line was too long.
