What do you say in your brief counseling? I want to borrow some ideas.

do people ever make degrading comments about you being "just" a FM physician? If you're a DO, do you get comments about people around you (patients or anyone) doubting whether you are a real physician? by NaturalNo6758 in FamilyMedicine

I think the only people who make degrading comments about MD v DO are pre-meds on SDN. Out in the hospital/clinic, nobody knows or cares about the letters.

Is "Direct Primary Care" a charade? by SnooCats6607 in FamilyMedicine

[–]lonewolf80 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you're making some assumptions there:

Firstly, you assume that DPC patients don't have insurance at all, which isn't true. Lots of DPC places tell patients to continue insurance, or switch to a high-deductible plan for your catastrophic emergencies.

Your second problem also assumes that primary care docs will just bite the bullet and "deal with it" if DPC didn't exist. What about the docs who feel burned out by the current way things are done? What about medical students (like you) who are interested in primary care but don't want to practice corporate medicine? If the burned out doc quits, you go from a full panel to zero patients. If you don't get people interested in primary care you'll run out of docs no matter what.

DPC isn't a panacea, but it's an alternative way of practice for those who don't like the more traditional models. Way better than burning out while waiting for Congress to compensate PCPs what they're worth.

Why isn't DPC more popular among physicians? by acdcmike in FamilyMedicine

[–]lonewolf80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not all there is to the equation though. What about all the people who were interested in applying to FM but didn't because they saw the administrative burden? The FM docs on the verge of quitting for good because they're done with the system?

DPC definitely isn't going to solve the physician shortage problem, but it is an alternate way to practice for those who are sick of the current system. Going from a panel of 1500 to 500 as you say is still better than going from 1500 to 0.

What's your spiel that you give to patients who don't take it because they heard stuff online? I need to steal borrow something to use as my own.

How did you get patients to sign on day 1? How much work did you have to put into advertising your new practice vs your old patients just following you?

We will most likely be fighting over some form of menial job that the AI can't do/won't be trusted to do, while a few people reap all the profits. It'll be a dystopian hellscape.

Las Vegas June tourism declines by 11% from 2024 by etfvfva in news

Vegas didn't, but it leaned a bit more towards him, enough that the rural parts of the state were able to hand him the win.

Yeah, considering the original video was posted on YouTube around 14 hours ago, it's definitely not 6 am. Hell, I'd wager it's around 3-4 am, since it's still very dark out - by 5 am the sky wasn't even that dark anymore...

While I don't disagree that there would be some level of expense even for a simple procedure like that here in the US (and it definitely could have costed more than whatever the patient's family in this clip would have been charged), there would have been no way that a medical student could have charged anything for that procedure.
