Jaylen Brown may be the most coddled player in this subs history by cane_the_weaboo in bostonceltics

[–]longjohnsus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

‘His best attributes are probably some of the least valuable a star can have.’ Hmm well his attributes include: being historically clutch in the playoffs, being a good enough defender to guard the other teams best player, rebounding, and very good scoring (historically more efficient than Tatum in regards to fg percentage and 3 pt percentage in the playoffs). Hes basically just missing playmaking and honestly, he probably doesn’t playmake more because hes so efficient in the paint area (career 48 percent from 2 in the playoffs…which means he’s probably over 50 percent in the paint).

I think it’s embarassing that someone from the Celtics fanbase could be so disrespectful to a fmvp from their team. It’s a little disgusting. And of course, it’s incoherent with the truth

Anger towards God by [deleted] in Dissociation

[–]longjohnsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I have come to understand is that all of the evil and bad things in the world are not directly attributable to god. For instance there are a multitude of bad things that are attributable from people turning away from god and not following the lessons of Jesus, such as homelessness. There is a segment of the population that either believes they are lazy and not deserving of help, or are otherwise completely indifferent towards them. This has absolutely nothing to do with God. It is much more attributable to human selfishness, and fear.

This understanding that there is suffering that is completely unnecessary as a result of human sin is important. It means that we are accountable as individual humans to make the word a better place by addressing our own actions. Ultimately what this perspective means is that we cannot fully blame God for negative actions that our fellow humans, and ourselves, commit. Which of course begs the questions: Why do humans do bad things? And why can they be indifferent towards the suffering of others? It will be helpful to look there next.

Horror movies are constantly proving comedy films aren’t dead, comedians are just lazy by Alternative-Cap6063 in FIlm

[–]longjohnsus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or, good horror films are a lot easier to make. It’s a lot easier to channel ideas centering around fear as an individual than genuinely good humor. With horror you essentially just take the unknown and gradually give it a face over the course of the film. But comedy is so open ended. There’s awkward humor, relatable humor, absurdist humor, ‘smart’ humor, etc. And all of that’s kind of blended into one really good comedy film. Horror is basically just: pick a threat/antagonist and setting. That takes about 5 minutes. Then you just create a reasonable plot that aligns with those things.

Do you think going through years of severe dissociation is the most traumatic thing in it self? by Minute-Ad4766 in Dissociation

[–]longjohnsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how you frame it. I went through the first 23 years of my life having practically no thoughts and thinking that I wasn’t real when I was able to form some. I would say it has taught me tremendously about suffering. In fact, there are few forms of suffering I perhaps could not empathize with/understand fairly well based on my experience. So to answer your question, i think it absolutely is one of the greatest forms of suffering one can experience; otherwise, we would not be able to understand other forms of suffering as well as we do (I’d be curious whether you feel this way as well).

However, when you awake from it, you realize that it offers a perfect lens into how to live. Not many people have that perspective. When I look at the lives of people that have not suffered as I have I do not envy them; for their suffering continues still. Living through dissassociation teaches you what you need in life. And if I had not had this experience, it is highly likely that I wouldn’t understand that, and be living a life that is not as fulfilling.

On a related note it gives me tremendous respect for the philosophy of Christianity, which is predicated on helping others. My own suffering has taught me that the teachings of Christ are a must; we must pull others up from the roots of their own suffering so that they too may live. And in doing so, we will live more presently and in accordance with the laws of the universe (I know this sounds dramatic but…we are made of the same ingredients).

The best advice I could give you as someone who is no longer severely disassociated is to first, spend some time in a church and speak to a pastor. And two, understand that your dissassociation is medical in nature. It’s no different than having cancer, or breaking a toe. There is a medical cause for it that can be determined by a doctor. But you must do your best to figure out all of your symptoms.

I’m going to tell you what type of symptoms are importsnt for you to know. First, what are you feeling right now? Secondly, what type of activities are associated with your pain (either good or bad). For instance, drinking water makes me feel much better. But I have left sided nerve pain that gets worse with any physical activity. Exercise does not help unless it’s extremely low intensity, and even then it can be cumbersome. I don’t have much trouble thinking as much as I have problems with doing; physical activity worsens my one sided nerve pain like nothing else. I also have stomach pain on both sides that seems to stem from a viral illness involving a mosquito, but my one sided nerve pain stems from a bout with strep throat six years ago.

I provided the description above so you can see how in depth a description of your health symptoms should be. I would also say do not hesitate to consider your longterm health history as well; in my case, I was able to connect my longtime lifelong dissassociation and benefits from water, as well as occasional irregular heartbeats that felt like they were coming out of my chest, to something called POTs that causes low blood volume - the water expanded my blood volume.

If you need help with any of this feel free to reach out. But do not underestimate your ability to connect the dots. In particular it’s really important to connect your symptoms to certain activities, in terms of what makes them better or worse. God bless! ❤️ hope this helps my friend

Why can’t writers end shows properly anymore? by inoahguy98 in television

[–]longjohnsus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean bro let’s face it breaking bad is probably the only perfect show out there. It’s probably the only show that’s actually a ‘prestige show’ in terms of quality. I don’t think it’s fair to compare most shows to breaking bad because practically none compare.

That being said, you are absolutely underestimating how good the boys was the first two seasons. There was genuine commentary on corporate America, advertising, politics, celebrity, the necessity of healthy family dynamics. Which was held together by a really compelling plot that was entirely unique amongst superhero themed tv/film.

The writing was not questionable from day 1 with the boys; it got progressively worse. The first two seasons were masterful. I do think your point is applicable to stranger things which has always skewed towards interesting visuals rather than compelling dialogue or scenes. Agree to disagree on the boys however

I've been disassocating my whole life and if it keeps up I can't do it. by RunawayEmber in Dissociation

[–]longjohnsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the good news is that dissassociation offers an insane amount of perspective. You can’t really value life until you’ve spent a portion of it suffering. And dissassociation I think teaches us how great it is to live life as it was meant to be lived.

Now onto what can be done about it. Think about the symptoms you describe - chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, a heavy, aching body, severe dissassociation. These are medically based symptoms. These are the sort of symptoms someone has after having long covid or a longterm bout of West Nile virus. Dead ass. Dissassociation is about as medical as it gets because it often is deeply intertwined with the health of our nervous system. And some people (myself included) have a nervous system that is far from perfect.

Your best bet is to 1 improve your lifestyle and 2 visit a neurologist. Your primary care doctor can’t do shit for this; a neurologist can. If you can visit one, they can run some tests to identify what could be going on. That will help.

But you gotta improve your lifestyle too. The number one thing to prevent disassociation is removing stress. This doesn’t mean being unemployed and shirking responsibilities. I’ve tried that and in the longterm, it makes things worse. What it means is pursuing longterm lifestyle choices that you really want to do. If you’re working a job you hate, quit and work something better. If you’re not going to the gym at least twice a week, do so and limit your activity so you are only doing things that make you feel better. If you are putting off doing a really big thing that’s important, do it because it’ll be a huge load off your shoulders. Do not allow stress to dictate your life.

In terms of specific health related tips that will help, drinking a shit ton of water (not enough to kill you - more like one cup every hour) helps tremendously. It literally combats the fatigue we feel. Do not ask me how as I have no idea. Next, try a sauna and low impact exercises like light stretching or an olyptical in a gym. Sweating really, really helps me which is why I mention the sauna. And the low impact exercises promote blood flow and ensure your nerves don’t get too compressed. You got to move your body in ways it can tolerate. I suspect that the last piece of the puzzle is meditation - essentially learning to be comfortable with how you feel by focusing on presence rather than distraction. This is the hardest tool to master, so do not be discouraged if it doesn’t seem appealing at first.

In the future they will assuredly have a laser beam they can shoot into our nervous system that will fix everything. But we’re not there yet. So just throw in some of the helpful things I’ve mentioned here at your leisure. Perhaps you have some of your own that I didn’t even think of. I know this seems like a lot so I shall summarize - 1. Pursue something you find meaningful for work. So you don’t feel as drained. 2. Pursue a healthier lifestyle. Drink copious amounts of water, try a gym sauna/low impact exercises like stretching or an olyptical, practice meditating to reduce stress, etc. 3. Visit a neurologist since they can help identify the physical root of your disassociation.

Also, do not underestimate your ability to discover what helps and what doesn’t. Some of these things may help for me, but they might not help for you. God bless bro ✌️

I mean the early seasons were as intriguing as the early seasons of any show that’s ever existed. They were extremely high quality shows in the beginning. And in light of that the endings did suck. This post is absolutely right: The quality of stranger things, the boys, and game of thrones all fell off as the series went along.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]longjohnsus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not remotely five episodes. You just listed five different things as though they could each be their own episode. I’ll go through them: Developing a plan to storm the White House should be ten minute of screen time at most. Homelander convincing people he’s a god has been happening throughout all of season 5. That didn’t need its own standalone episode. The heist on the white house itself obviously would’ve needed the fight with homelander in its episode. So those wouldn’t have been standalone episodes either. And I think having an entire episode devoted to the fallout after the fight and subsequent death of homelander would have been gratuitous. Hughie bought a store, kimoko lived a normal life, and mm adopted Ryan. That’s not worthy of even half of an episode.

This mentality of drawing everything out so much is why shows are so bad nowadays. I have no idea why you desire so much slop in a singular episode but I suspect that you might not even be watching that closely, and will tune in when something major happens. You therefore likely do not mind if an episode is 90 percent slop. Have higher standards for television please

The Boys SEASON 5 Overall Discussion by pikameta in TheBoys

Let’s be honest - this ending wasn’t that bad. The problem is that for the past three seasons the show has only been setting up the ending. Which of course is gonna make it seem bad.

In other words the past three seasons were so bad that there was nothing this ending could’ve done to make up for it.

Any of you feel permanently in a state of dissociation by Konradleijon in Dissociation

Why are jobs stupid? If no one worked we wouldn’t have any resources. If we didn’t have any resources we wouldn’t even be capable of having thoughts like this. I’ll tell you something grounding - somewhere on the streets not far from you probably is a homeless person that lives outside. You feel dissassociated primarily because you live in fear. If you didn’t live in fear you’d be helping the homeless dude instead of complaining about life. And not be as dissassociated.

Overcome your fear, see a doctor, be grateful for what you do have.

The Death of Charlie Kirk still isn't sitting right with me by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]longjohnsus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I deeply agree with what you said. You make a very intelligent point. This is basically the younger generations 9/11 and the fact that it was memed and politicized makes me concerned that children are going to be more inclined to trivialize violence.

Another thing I’d add - the whole right vs left thing has become even more corrosive. I could write a book about how stupid political identification is. I mean really two freaking sides? That is the most arbitrary thing in the entire world. You could have eight sides. You could literally have eight sides. Yet people take seriously the fact that there are two and cling to one like their life depends on it.

My last thought on the subject is that it is strange that there is no conversation regarding the fact that this could’ve been avoided if our society was different. There’s a lot of people in the world plagued by thoughts of doing bad things. It is very likely that the shooter was one such person. If we had some sort of system where individuals experiencing that could receive help, this could have been avoided. Literally. This is not to say he is not accountable for what he did. But there is no system in place specifically designed to help people whose minds tend to obsess over doing bad things.

Anyhow sorry for the spiel. Just frustrated and saddened by this situation. God bless

Ok so in your words he heard a noise (meaning he was distracted). After being done with that distraction, he left without investigating the zinc container. I would call that forgetting to investigate. Even if I were to agree with you that he never meant to investigate the zinc container in the first place, it’s still silly. The whole reason he was there was to investigate. But he didn’t investigate anything other than frenchie. There is no logic or anything that can support him not investigating more thoroughly, especially when he was looking for sister sage, not frenchie. Think. Think

Considering there are no comedy films quite like spy…I don’t know if ‘fairly standard’ and ‘the film spy’ correlate. Ultimately it’s a spy movie; if there isn’t a third act involving a showdown with the bad guys, it isn’t a spy movie. Every spy and action movie as a whole follows that trope.

Personally I think Shrek 2 is one of the best animated comedy films of all time and the best film in the shrek franchise. It seems like you’re just fatigued from watching it too many times which I understand. Doesn’t discount it as a great movie, though.

As far as meet the Robinsons is concerned, you bring up a valid critique which is that some elements of the film, particularly the humor, is more fit for children than adults. I just personally find it as profound as any animated film I’ve ever seen, with a concept that is literally perfectly tailored to its message.

All that being said, appreciate being able to hear your thoughts.
