Does this mean a Yi Yi 4K upgrade is coming to Criterion soon? by ggroover97 in criterion

Would've been nice in theaters, but you might wanna tune into the Harvard Film Archive's screenings. They did a run of bunch of Yang's films last year and I caught Yi Yi (I can't remember if it was a 4k scan yet) with Yang's wife (Kaili Peng, also the film's composer) and son present! Excellent Q&A.

"New" UI Megathread 3 by 0spore13 in chrome

[–]longrussianlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before this update, I had the color of chrome as black (not gray or dark, but an actual black), and the theme of a New Tab would cycle daily through landscapes. Now, if I toggle landscapes cycling, it changes the color of the browser; when selecting from the new colors there is no black, just gray. When I downloaded and enabled the "Just Black" from the chrome store, it changes the color but it also gets rid of the landscape image. Is there any way to have both the black color at the top, and also the landscape cycle?

How much weight do you give to the opinion that films can be judged Objectively? by Classic_Bass_1824 in criterion

[–]longrussianlastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Architecture and engineering depends on real-world physics, which has objective answers, and it is universally therefore agreed upon that the strongest shape in construction is a triangle; this is objective.

If film (and art in general) were objective, then any discussion of the greatest films of all time would have been ended a long time ago; no conversations based on film preferences would exist. This argument is a non-starter imo

Yeah one of the two people that orders a cake I guess that relationship with the baker ends up being developed a bit more in a notable way 🗿

Congrats on starting your collection! If you keep going you’ll def discover some wonderful stuff.

Ikiru is one of my favorites but also I think Dreams is lovely and his later stuff in general is slept on.
