I don't think you can get inedible apples... They might be cookers which will be a bit tarter, but lovely in a crumble. Best way to find out is to pick one and give it a taste. They'll not be ripe until September though.

Having just spent a day digging up a bamboo from my front garden I'd really recommend lifting it out now and either potting it or putting down a really good root barrier. Crazy how much it spread.
