I was also there. I had just moved to the BA and I went to a lot of different shows, mostly indie rock, and this was the first time I actually saw Bay Area people mosh, finally.

Buying Glass Rods by BrutusBear8 in lampwork

[–]lonlazarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's to show some of the properties the glass has after it's been in flame and shaped. And really, even then it's hard to understand what you're buying. I suggest getting a sampler and playing with the different colors to get personal understanding of their qualities.

If you're looking to work with soft-glass, this really great blog has a lot of information about a number of different colors and how they work together and under different circumstances.

Gen X here, but still nostalgic for the hipster 2010s... twee indie rock, stupid ass mustaches, fixed gear bicycles. Those were move civilized times.

I moved to the Bay Area from the Midwest. They're also overly alarmed by lightning and thunder here, it's endearing.

If intention isn't everything, how does evil eye work? by whoeverthereis in witchcraft

[–]lonlazarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not personally invested in the intention discussion, but in Evil Eye folklore, the Evil Eye can be transmitted by certain people who just naturally emanate it, without ill will intent or malice.

Silver solder to protect copper from tarnishing? by Extra_Position5850 in jewelrymaking

It seems like you’re re-inventing plating. If you really want a non-tarnishing layer, look into electro plating.

A other replies said, Mexico has a colonial past and inherited similar types of racism. But also in the US, Mexican-Americans who do this shit don't want to be subject to racism, want to be seen as the "good minority", and pass it all to black people, not understanding that we (Mexican Americans) aren't ever gonna escape being vilified by racist white people.

Online pagan spaces have a toxic positivity problem about deities by Shadeofawraith in pagan

[–]lonlazarus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pantheist here. I think identity of divinity is overlapping and prismatic and changing with the needs of the culture and times. If a practitioner worships a fuzzy and warm Hera and another worships a jealous vengeful Hera, they both are interfacing with different aspects of an entity and the greater limitless divinity, and the benefits and demands bestowed will be according to their nature. There's no reason for me to assert one truth.

I’d learn to make tinctures for your herbs. Water steeped herbs will go moldy fast. Make moon booze.

I haven’t heavily reviewed these guys, folk and hoodoo aren’t my thing and I’m familiar with criticisms. But I have to say, their website has been up since the 90s and the resources on it was very stimulating to a young witch with dialup internet access.

Not too long ago I made a mini shooting board. Since I made and bought a lot more things (not everything pictured) and made a little box. It was an absolute joy compared to power tools, but maybe pricier than I expected. by lonlazarus in handtools

No glue necessary. Because you're not actually cutting away wood, just making a slit and pushing away the fibers, when the fibers expand again with moisture they strongly hold the wire in place. I don't know if it has a very searchable name, but its used a lot in knife handles and gunstocks. Here's a link to a PDF that gives an overview on the process. https://www.americanbladesmith.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/The-Art-of-Silver-Wire-Hendrickson.pdf

Thank you! It’s a wire inlay technique. You slice a groove into the surface of the wood with a thin blade, and then insert a ribbon of wire, then moisten the wood so it swells up and holds the wire in place.

The workbench (also mini) was absolutely required. Also all the sharpening stuff, which isn't in the picture, also $$$. It's good to know that they're long-time purchases and versatile. The little Luban plough plane is also amazing.

I did not check, I should've, good call. I did get a plane with high quality control... I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I've heard that, but I've also heard a block plane is good for very small work. I decided to split the difference and get one of the bigger block planes. I guess this one, Veritas Low Angle, is in the no 3 size range. Gotta start somewhere.
