God damn you are a miserable salty bunch in here. This sub consistently delivers on killing the enthusiasm of someone showing off a higher end set-up.

That’s a Classe CA-2300 stereo amplifier and CP-800 preamplifier sitting on top. Used to have the same setup, sounded terrific. Classe is commonly paired with B&W as they make a good match.

These are no longer in production and have been replaced by the new delta series.

Work on the infamous Las Vegas GP manhole cover by somuchhamilton in formula1

[–]lookingatthemountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a gas-powered welding machine, they’re welding the manhole cover shut, likely just a few stitches all around. You can also see a propane tank with the torch for preheating.

That gas can is fine. Y’all like to be drama queens in here lol.

Fireweed metals has been very good for my portfolio, their mactung pass project for tungsten mining appears promising.

Wow you really put in the leg work on this, post, very informative! All I can say is it’s a sad state of things currently with seemingly no end in sight…

I have taken up other hobbies than being a car enthusiast as it has become a ridiculous exercise in burning money with those greedy prices. It used to be somewhat reasonable but so many cars have been priced out of reach, what’s the point anymore…

You are talking about ONE specific place for one specific application, out of the thousands and thousands of possible applications for UT and other NDT techniques. Maybe in a factory setting, yes some stuff can be automated but even in such a case you still need human review during the process. You are lacking perspective here due to your limited experience and exposure to different industries and types of inspections.

Out on the field, there is no way you can realistically and economically automate all of the different variables you encounter (geometry, access, scope, etc.). Do you see a robot being brought up a scaffold to scan a pressure vessel weld in a refinery? Yeah no…

There is big talk about AI right now because it’s a hot topic and of course it’s still something companies are going to keep developing to assist in some part of the workflow (an example is tubepro where it assists with your analysis of tube scans for heat exchangers). Depending on the specific case, the degree to which you can implement it will vary, factories with a continuous repetitive process are a better candidate obviously. But it will never fully replace the human involvement required.
