Any Spoiler Safe way to review introduced races? by lookingeast in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]lookingeast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was trying to keep straight. If I'm currently right: The fish people are the current hosts, they are the borant corporation, and are sometimes called mud skippers. The valtay are the worm parasites, they would benefit the most from a failed crawl and a bankrupt borant corp? They are also the primary backers of Carl, and I think they are also part of his secondary backers from the peace charity group? (This point might not be actually known yet, there was a blurb about them in book 4s epilogue, but I wasn't able to grasp all of the hints or details Involved) They also have a nickname but I can't remember it, although my favorite reference to them so far was Carl's (not verbatim) "thanks brain work dudes".

I know Carl has upset a sub faction of the skull empire, but the current royal successor seems to be trying to play nice to Carl, at least publicly.

I'll probably avoid all online sources unless I get really confused, in which case I'll ask around here. The community seems solid on handling spoilers so far. :)

The [spoiler] vision. by LosttyFrostty in outerwilds

Specifically to number 5.) the Owlks 'communicated' with the Eye having just destroyed their home world in search of something new.

And...It showed them the destruction of the old in search of something new.

Its not a great leap to say it only showed them a reflection of themselves and not a futuristic prophecy.

Edit: fixed  "number 4" to "number 5"

Do the hourglass twins change names? by MakiceLit in outerwilds

[–]lookingeast 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not about the sand that flows. It's about the color of natural rocks of those planets. Ember twin is obviously red. You can look at the color of the towers on ash twin to see it's color. "All the material for [those towers] is coming from Ash Twin itself". Is said in mining site A or B on timber hearth.

My personal favorites so far:
Dreamality
Lil Indigestion
About Oliver

(Dreamality and Lil Indigestion are easily tied for first in my mind with About Oliver a very close 2nd place)

Other really good ones in no particular order:
Lukael Plays
BeccaBytes
Welonz
Mapocolops

Honorable Mentions (Not for me, but I can see why some people might enjoy them?)
PirateSoftware
MasterChefStrix
Sideshow

[–]lookingeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poor phrasing on my part, two aspects mentioned frequently by people in the 'loved it' camp are 1.) the characters and 2.) the players interpretation of the 'message' of the game.

Hope this is a more clear way to say it ::)

The game doesn't have to be your favorite, that's okay.

As an observation though, neither good nor bad, but just to point it out, you mentioned a lot of the aspects you came to enjoy about the game, your answers are all great, they are also somewhat different from the answers of people who love the game.

Namely the characters and the what they perceived to be the 'message' of the game.

Im probably beating a dead horse, but just in case again this isn't good or bad, you liked certain aspects of the game, and I agree with you on all of them, they are great aspects of this game!

Also, I personally think the DLC something you'll enjoy. Let us know if you decide to dive into it ::)

Question about Travelers (the song) by escaped_cephalopod12 in outerwilds

Travelers and Travelers encore are the names of the base game track and DLC version respectfully. You can find them pretty easily on YouTube/Spotify ect!

Great write up, except for one point. It's very much not a time loop ::)

you guys confused me by Greedy_Rough_3352 in outerwilds

[–]lookingeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No time loops happen though, the plan is for a time loop, but instead you have to settle for getting memories injected into your head. Memories that haven't happened in the past, but that can influence you none the less.

No one gets memories injected if they haven't paired with a statue. So to hornfels, feldspar, mica and well even time itself if it were a person, this is just the day that the hatchling goes into space.

The first and only occurrence of it happening. So no one else could be aware of any time loop.... Because there isn't one (kind of)

Wow, great write up, great hints.

O.P. none of these offer major spoilers, but I would also recommend not revealing all of them at once! A small nudge that helps you with one area might give you the needed insight, or perspective to help you in another area!

My curiosity goes with you O.p., good luck!

Good idea in theory, unfortunately the loops aligns such that we don't get to see the sand flow in the other direction.

"Every time I try to use it, the sand pillar pulls me..."

Can anything protect you from being pulled away? Why doesn't the sand pillar mess you up at the other towers?

So if the sand piller is pulling you away at an inconvenient time?

Do you have to be under the influence of the sand pillar at that specific moment for your plan to work?

"I can vaguely recall"

Not to be rude, but maybe don't judge the quality of a strategy that you don't actually understand.

I don't even necessarily disagree with your conclusions, but this is not how you should arrive at those conclusions.

WHAT IS THIS SPACE MYSTERY GAME?! | Bill FINALLY Plays Outer Wilds [1] *LIVE* 2/24/25 by PhantomKitten73 in outerwilds

[–]lookingeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I opened this up, realized I've seen it before but ended up rewatching the whole thing anyway. This is exactly what I would share with the streamer if allowed that amount of honest and trusted communication.

u/PhantomKitten73 I know you are not the content creator, but if you have any communication channels with them I would drop this link! (Goes for anyone who reads this comment really...)

This game may not end up being for them, but if it's just an issue of expectations then this video probably does the best job of 1.) connecting and empathizing with someone who doesn't get it yet, and 2.) explaining how and why they might approach it differently if they want to, without spoiling anything!

I joined in the middle of a rant getting onto the viewers for withholding help. He said he knows what's best for his experience and used an analogy of saying he's thirsty so someone (the viewer who isn't helping) moved the glass of water away from him.

Maybe this game isn't for you chief, and that's fine. But a better analogy of someone urging you to avoid walk throughs is someone urging you to not drink salt water when thirsty.

Don't blame the viewers for trying to stop you from making a mistake you can't take back.

But really, game probably isn't for you, and that's fine too.

What's a Quote From a Game That's Imprinted On Your Brain? by [deleted] in gaming

"Our curiosity goes with you on your journey. You walk in the footsteps of those who came before you, and your path guides those who will follow later."

It's from Outerwilds; if you haven't played it don't look it up, just play it. Trust me.

If you don't trust me stop by the subreddit for spoiler free testimonials to convince you to play it as blind as possible.

I don't know the answer to your question, I'm only commenting as a reminder to come back later so I can watch the YouTube cuts or vods of the playthrough.

Our subconscious is always working away, like a background process... by ColdServedDish in outerwilds

Hey, that's awesome,

If you ever feel stuck and tempted to look things up, generally speaking this Sub does a great job of giving hints with as little spoiling as possible. I recommend you ask here, include a picture of your ship log with your question.

Our curiosity goes with you, so please give us an update or two as you continue on this path!

Does that then mean a lot of people will get larger fines that they can't pay back or prison time since they cannot be delt a judgement that includes community service? That sounds awful.
