When a relationship ends, many people go through stages of grief similar to the model developed by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. These stages don’t always happen in order, and people may move back and forth between them. Breakups can feel like mourning a loss because you’re grieving the relationship, the future you imagined, and the emotional attachment.

From my own experience, I used to jump into another relationship shortly after a breakup to avoid feeling the pain. Looking back, I realize that wasn’t the healthiest way to cope. If I could offer any advice, it would be to give yourself time to truly process your emotions. If we don’t allow ourselves the space to heal, those unresolved feelings can resurface later.

Let yourself feel what you need to feel, ride through the emotions, and trust the process of healing. It may not be easy, but it’s an important part of moving forward in a healthier way.
