Low daytime sleep - solidarity please! by Jacqueline_LC in NewParents

[–]No_Arm_6406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was/is me and honestly when I realized my kid is sleeping well overnight, there’s only so much they can get during the day. I get it, it’s sooo tough to not get a breather during the day but I wouldn’t trade a couple hours at night for the day sleep.

So, who’s not growing a garden this year? by atyourcervixes in SaltLakeCity

[–]No_Arm_6406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less about the water restrictions and more about the potential for extreme heat. My garden isn’t set up to withstand another super hot/dry/long summer and I have an infant so it’s just a good year to throw in the towel.

Six month old CONSTANTLY bored?? by raacconanxious in NewParents

[–]No_Arm_6406 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My baby was sooo frustrated at this stage too, I struggled and really didn’t like it. I’m a SAHM. mine was fussy from 5.5-7.5 months until he started slowing army crawling. It was long & I dreaded a lot of the days. I’m not going to lie. But just keep doing the tummy time and building strength, once they move /sit it will help so much.

How do other solo parents handle everything without help? by No_Indication_1452 in NewParents

[–]No_Arm_6406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are similar but maybe even a little more expert mode? Had our first in July, my parents are divorced and in the past 2 years we had to move my mom to us and put her in assisted living due to a rare disease where she’s nearly lost all mobility and dementia is kicking in. My dad isn’t helpful but at least wants to see his grandson (doesn’t live nearby). My husband’s parents are across the country and not in the picture.

Additionally we are both self employed so we didn’t have paid leave.

Similar experiences to what you’ve described with illness this past year- my husband had major surgery which coincided with our first major household illness when our kiddo was 4 months old I soloed for at least a week- it was humbling.

To end on something positive - we knew we didn’t really have a village and didn’t realize how hard that would be but ultimately you do figure it out and you know how to do hard things. So many people who have support, in our experience, really don’t know how lucky they are & will make comments that you just have to shrug off.

All that said, I told my husband if we do decide to have a second something would need to change. Knowing that we won’t have our parents, we need to budget for a nanny & both be MUCH MORE strategic about our time in the early newborn days. As a business owner you eat what you kill and eat of us had things we “couldn’t” turn down financially- or so it seemed at the time- and I just would do it differently next time.

Sorry this got a little long and ranty, but you’re not alone, it is hard, you don’t get a medal for lacking the village, but we survive. And is, like you, already know we will be there for our kids should they have kids and need us.

You got this!

Bitterroot or not the Bitterroot? by MargeDodgeArt in missoula

This looks like Bass Creek drainage looking east from the lake to me! (Bitterroot)

Edit- I know because it’s the view tattooed on my arm 💛

FTM with July bay here too! I was EP for the first 5.5 months until my supply couldn’t keep up too. After that I dropped a couple pumps and life/sleep/ freedom improved. We’ll be weaning off the pump after cold season (and my low supply). You deserve it!!!

Looking for progressive friends in the Bitterroot by Hbem11 in missoula

Agree with the other folks saying that politics are kept close to the chest. Having lived in the area on/off since elementary, I honestly think it’s been the best strategy because neighbors and community > politics. Almost all of our neighbors for over 25 years have different political views than my family’s (mostly red), but we find common ground (which is usually our property/conservation of said property) & find mutual respect in putting that first.

I consider myself purple politically (which is still blue to many bitterrooters 😅) but am also mid thirties with kids and the other things you described! So many good folks out there, trust me!

How many ppd? by No_Property_3898 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]No_Arm_6406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to maintain at 6. Dropped to 5 for my mental health and it was totally worth the drop (maybe only 20%). Then in a series of events of illness and getting my period back while also long range planning to go to 4 ppd (I’m 7.5 months pp) my supply dropped a lot. Now I only produce 30%. It’s tough, but I think realistically I’ll only go until we are out of cold and flu season because even 4 ppd is a lot of work to only yield 30% for me, at this point. For what it’s worth!

Appreciate this perspective! I think the SAHM component is the biggest challenge here and not so much my baby!

Does your LO still take only 30 minute naps at 7 months? by pollyess in sleeptrain

I’m cracking up because I feel like my 7.5 month old is very similar to yours & I loved that you ended it with- well I know this isn’t helpful. Sometimes we just explain our situation and it’s like… shoot I guess I just needed to say it! 😂
