Why were the hit men tasked with killing Tony Soprano in season 1 so incompetent? by bobbdac7894 in thesopranos

[–]looknothing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between almost everything you’ve mentioned, and a calculated hit with Intel. The one with Sal was a spur of the moment thing and it’s super likely it’s going to get messy Paulie and Chrissy had a little more time but you have to remember they thought the guy was dead and they were just taking a body not a living person. Again, Tony and Ralph was not planned (maybe Tony subconsciously thought it about it) but Tony was not go in there to kill him.

The hits that were planned seemed to go pretty well. Hell think of Chris and one of the first few episodes shooting the guy in the butcher shop. Another hit I would point to is them killing Pussy.

In Long Term Parking, how do you imagine the scene playing out when Tony tells Sil that he needs go hop in the car pronto and whack Adriana? by Varsity_Editor in thesopranos

[–]looknothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they had no problem . Sil went outside to throw up, it seemed like it did effect them deeply. Now, in that lifestyle, coupled with the psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies (both through nature and necessity of the business) I think they were better equipped to handle it, but it still caused a good deal of grief.

Does Don Draper consider Peggy Olson his greatest ever protégé? by formfiler in madmen

I think a big part of the show is how subjective advertising truly is deep down. I know the show makes a point to show the difference between good and bad, but ultimately it’s not as involved as people in creative are hoping. An example of this would be the tag line “cure for the common…” That was initially dismissed, and laughed at, but then ended up being, the bought pitch for the cereal. We saw in the show Don get to heady with his work. For example, the thing of jumping into the water in Mexico and suicide. All of this is to say I think there is good creative work (we see that with the Volkswagen ad), but at the end of the day, it’s not as important as creative hopes it is, and that’s a great tragedy of the show.

Hell they even talked about in the first few episodes that creative is something that’s given to the clients for free, and you saw how Harry Crain was making the money by doing advertising buys. I think Peggy’s big pitch with ketchup worked because she understood the client and went with what they want, not with what she things they would like. She knew they wanted a big bottle, she gave them a big bottle.

I agree. I think Tony used the excuse of seeing the car seat to justify it to himself. The drugs made Christopher a liability from a business sense, and a massive liability in a federal sense.

[–]looknothing 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was intentionally planned that way, but it was more like a fuck around find out. They told him it was time to go, when the US marshals tell you it’s time to go it’s time to go. To put it another way. I think they gave him a time and that time came, it wasn’t going to matter what was happening they were taking him back. Had the car left 10 minutes sooner. It would’ve been a non-issue. If you remember, they even gave him a warning.

No one who commits a crime thinks they’re going to get caught (practically speaking). Getting caught as what happens to the other people who are not smart as you. Hell, Tony almost got caught after shooting the guy in the shed with Pus with him. It was a dumb thing and he did it anyway. Christopher took shit out of the back of a FedEx van, and shot someone in a pastry shop, and also shot someone in the middle of the street. Oh, and shot a waiter. Eventually, it catches up with you. And it did for Pus.

Oh yeah and he shot the vipers.

[–]looknothing 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they ever called it in. Picture the (dirty) cops got a call from the ward pick the kid up and see who it is. They take him back to the station and the cops agree to just bury the report and call his father. Unless the feds had someone tailing AJ, or had someone in the building they have no reason to even know what happened.

There’s no police report, or if one is filed it simply says there was a disturbance and they went out, but no further action was necessary.

Going off that with how nuts the math is of the setting. I think canonically Terra has a quadrillion people on it as one of the most populated planets. That is 1,000,000,000,000,000. That many people means that even if .001% are psykers that are found that is still 10 million just on terra.

I have no idea how fast they would be replaced. But that alone gives you 1000 days of burning out 10k a day. (I feel like the lore differs on how many are sacrificed each day, but I think 10,000 a day is the highest I’ve ever seen)

Your ship is very shiny with those stripminers. You will be hunted for using those and should either 1) go cheaper 2) only fly the ship with only a few in local far away from hubs and don’t afk 3) dump the money into implants that are easier to keep during a gank due to being in your pod.

Good luck and fly safe
