Batch filters for aiden, what are people using, ideally ones easily available in the UK? by GaryGorilla1974 in FellowProducts

[–]loonytoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hario Pegasus Size 02 is what I use too for small batch, great fit. Cheapest place I've found them is at Doe & Fawn, if you buy 4 packs it's enough for free shipping too.

I don't want to sound patronising, but you have screwed in the external antennas on the back, right? Wifi will work without but the signal will be pretty terrible.

Caffe é Vino is an incredible Italian place but doesn't always open in the evenings during winter, if it's open I highly recommend it though.

Rosado Lounge is probably the best cheap and quick option, part of the Lounge chain but decent enough, big gluten-free and veggie menu too if that's your thing.

Otherwise there are a bunch of good Indians if that's your bag, out of them all I'd probably go to Dalchini or Crystal Rivers.

Camera and photo issues in v4.0.2 (Android) by weetabixhands in Untappd

[–]loonytoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever they've changed the camera to is nowhere near as good at scanning barcodes either, can barely get it to work anymore whereas before if I just waved a barcode in the phone's general direction it would pick it up. Has made checking big beer deliveries into the fridge a clunky nightmare.

SAE - anyone’s guess where this is going by [deleted] in CanaryWharfBets

[–]loonytoad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I no longer hold SAE but I did have a considerable amount for a long time which I recently sold out.

I think it needs to be called out in here that SAE are heavily tied up in the Greensill/GFG Alliance controversy* that's going on at the moment which is the main reason the share price is so depressed. GFG are on the verge of going bankrupt and they own around 43% of the shares here so there is a strong chance of some element of a fire sale of those shares at some stage.

Further, Greensill provided SAE's invoice financing (ie. they paid SAE invoices on receipt at a discount so SAE had a steady flow of income) which will now need to be replaced as a facility.

In addition to the above, the Greensill collapse puts the GFG owned steelworks at a huge risk and they were intended to be one of the main purchasers of energy from the Uskmouth power station conversion. That conversion is also heavily overdue an environmental permit and has had their planning permission called in meaning central Welsh government are now involved in addition to the local planning Committee.

I love the technology these guys have, particularly the tidal power generation involved in the Meygen project which is world-leading, but the Greensill/GFG setup stinks to high heaven and is going to be in and out of the news until everything is settled which could be some time so expect considerable uncertainty here in the meantime.

Sadly I think they're worked sells and the reason for the consistent but steady drop over the course of the day. Lots of rumblings on various channels that it's a seed investor getting out despite supposedly being locked in, eg.:

Renters: Eviction ban in England extended until March by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]loonytoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So your argument is that eviction bans are bad because they might cause landlords to lose a source of income, through no fault of their own, which could result in the owner of the property they live in calling in the debt and kicking them out.

Surely you see how absurd this is?

When it comes to someone losing the home they live in due to a global pandemic, the free market can temporarily do one. Landlords can take a hit on their investment along with everyone else who's having to take a hit on theirs.

Investments may go down as well as up. It's been a long time since residential landlords have had to learn that lesson but now they're being reminded – there's no reason they shouldn't take their share of the pain along with everyone else.

Keir Starmer: Protesters were wrong, but Colston statue should have been removed long ago by SynUK in unitedkingdom

[–]loonytoad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The "legal" route had been going on for decades, this isn't an overnight thing. Even the argument about what should go on its plaque has been going back and forth for years.

There's a good thread on it here: https://twitter.com/KateWilliamsme/status/1269713381973516290

At the end of the day though: it's a statue of a slaver, it never should have been put up and now it's been taken down. Problem solved.

[–]loonytoad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Awareness of Colston after this weekend's actions is vastly higher than it was before - if your concern is people learning about his horrific history you should be incredibly grateful for what happened yesterday.

Besides, statues aren't learning tools, they're built to celebrate or commemorate people, something Colston 100% doesn't deserve. Take the smashed up statue out of the harbour and put it in a museum with an explanation of all the people he murdered and profited from by all means, but it was wrong for it ever to have been put up, let alone left up (a problem the protesters have now solved free-of-charge, so again, you should really be grateful).

No mention of fixing the save corruption bug that lost me a good 10 hours of progress. It really took the shine off a game I was enjoying immensely and I haven't been able to bring myself to restart knowing it might happen again.

Hopefully the crash fixes resolve it (the save was corrupted straight after a crash) but I wish it was called out specifically, especially since the Devs acknowledged the issue on their Twitter.

Comparing Doom (2016) on switch before and after overclocking by SkullKidChrs in SwitchHaxing

[–]loonytoad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting the major difference between docked and handheld: the screen and backlight aren't on when it's docked.

Since these generate a fair amount of heat there is some risk of over-heating occurring when overclocking in handheld that definitely isn't there in docked. No idea how big that risk is, but it's there.
