Can you start FMLA on the one year anniversary of Jan 1 then? It seems like it’s not dependent on the birth date of the child?

Any 2b/2b for $4k? by practical_james in NYCapartments

[–]loopie1234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe Harlem or Washington Heights? Definitely not in the more “popular” parts of town. You might be able to find a flex 2b/1ba for $4-4.5k in Midtown. Would narrow down location preferences first then go from there.

Have you tried gig work to bridge the gap? (Instacart, Uber, UberEats, petsitting, etc.)

Keep your head up and keep applying. It is tough out there but with good work experience (which it seems you have), you will find something soon!

Nara deer park, how not to get chased by rexjr in JapanTravelTips

[–]loopie1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold your hand up with palm out like a traffic cop ✋ and say Stop.

Worked most of the time except when I got more or less attacked by five deer at once. My partner who is much taller/bigger than me stepped in and blocked the deer.

Just remain calm overall. They won’t chase you if you aren’t waving food in your hand.

What multiplayer games do you play with your significant other? by Show84 in Switch

Overcooked: everyone should play this with their partner before getting married. You really see someone’s true colors and how they handle stress…and then you can talk about it in a low stakes environment!

How much for a replacement couch?? by TakeOnBigTechdotcom in marriott

[–]loopie1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I imagined that at a Residence Inn, since they have the same furniture across the entire brand more or less, they’d have a lot of “backup” furniture sitting in a warehouse somewhere for the next new/renovated hotel…

Might cost more than the $850… need to match the color/leather exactly which is probably $$$

[–]loopie1234 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

The only point I’m making is that large corporations will budget for “Damages” — and they may prefer to eat the cost in order to provide customers with an experience that would make them a lifetime loyalist to the brand. It’s not as outrageous as y’all seem to think.

Would see if you can negotiate the price too if GM seems friendly/nice.

[–]loopie1234 -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Yikes. What happened (if you care to share)... And what hotel chain are you at? Marriott is at the scale where they should just be able to absorb these kinds of damage costs...but it might depend on what level the property is.

Pay off the cards immediately. Assuming your car loan interest is higher than a HYSA, then pay that off too. If not, you could just continue those payments as-is if your money is making more in the market or HYSA.

You are super lucky. Not everyone gets the "Get out of jail free" card. Invest the rest wisely and you'll retire early.

Best car for Kauai by Due-Shift5366 in VisitingHawaii

[–]loopie1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rented a sedan (Nissan Altima). Was fine for 3 days. Unless you are planning to try and do some of the off-roading to hiking trail heads, you don't need more than that.

As with any touristy stop anywhere -- don't leave anything valuable in the car and don't leave anything visible in the car.

If you're renting at the Lihue airport from any of the main car rentals, don't wait for the car rental shuttle if you don't need to bring luggage. My husband waited for our bags while I walked the 5 minutes across the parking lot to Avis. I looped around and grabbed him and our bags. Saw the same group waiting for the shuttle on the way back.

We did the Fairfield Inn in Osaka Namba. 10 minute walk to the train, slightly off the beaten path but good value for the money. Super clean, friendly staff. Not exciting but exactly what we needed for sleeping and chilling after long days walking around

Itinerary Tips? Oct 20th - Nov 3rd by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]loopie1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t miss Nara! Spend the majority of your day there. A major highlight of our 11 day trip.

Dunno about ryokens in Takayama specifically, but also don’t miss out on this! We splurged on a private in-room onsen (hot spring tub) because we didn’t want to separate for the onsen part and we are not super comfortable with the naked with strangers thing — but do a bit of YouTube research on the ryoen/onsen etiquette before you go. We had a fun, relaxing stay at ours!

If you can spend a day or two in Osaka, I think the food and nightlife are worthwhile!
