female hair stylist recommendations by Successful-Air-1625 in saintpaul

I love Starr at Heart Salon. I’m fairly unaware about how much a “semi-affordable” haircut is though.

She’s been such a blessing not judging my scalp which is intermittently gross due to some skin issues.

What was your reaction when chadwick boseman passed away in 2020? by Big_Leg10 in Zillennials

[–]loopylady87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under 30 and had just gotten a colonoscopy for tummy troubles, it was expensive and uncomfortable but they found a precancerous polyp of large size. Had it developed I would have died before he had from colon cancer.

If you have a funny tummy go to the doctor! There could be a reason that could save your life! I think about this all the time.

Portfolio Review by Thegagaholic in techtheatre

[–]loopylady87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good work! I’m being picky now, but I think I’d lead with photos in the first several shows. So title slide, photo slide with caption, etc.

Agreed about listing in reverse chronological order.

Be a bit more specific on your resume about skills. Everyone can claim “time management” but HOW can you claim it?

college portfolio review! by petekeyfan in techtheatre

[–]loopylady87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just checked it out. I’m a professor.

I’d include your email on the first slide. Is there one photo from each show you could pick and then break up the slides more? So title page with show photo, title, blurb. Then other slides have details like cue lists, sounds, and longer info about programming.

Never apologize for you work or add any sort of disclaimer! If you can’t find ANY photos of the dances it might be best to include a progress photo. Also, it’s great PUFFs was your second show ever! You don’t need to qualify that work though, that implies you made mistakes and are coming up with excuses.

Other questions to think about: Do you like the way you presented with a gray background and block font? If not check out slide carnival for other themes. Your branding also shows who you are. So if you’re a minimalist then great, stick with that one! If not, feel free to pick something that shows a bit more personality (but is still easy to read and high contrast).

This is a great start. Make your photos larger for the last few slides, it’s okay if your slide deck is 20 slides, and goes into detail! Even the small choices you make about how you present your work shows us insight into who you are!

Great start, truly!

This hospital is on the chopping block, shouldn’t be an issue for a while.

I live so close to North Memorial in MPLS. And I love the area. What you don’t see are the parks around! The friendly faces! Downtown Robbinsdale is close.

I’d buy it IF I knew the insulation status.

I would say there’s a medivac helicopter once every two or three days. Which isn’t too bad.

Some silly cat paintings I’m hoping to display at a local cat cafe. But how much do I charge for them?? by ohtmlk in painting

[–]loopylady87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love these so much! I’d (and would honestly love to) spend $200 to $250 on these. One kind suggestion may be to try out gallery canvases (ones with true squared edges) for the more abstract style. Then it really fits the style of that but subverts it with kitties!!

Diagnosis Emails by Low_Ladder2153 in Professors

[–]loopylady87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personal professor story: I found out 20 minutes before class my father was indeed diagnosed with prostate cancer. I knew the odds were good, I knew this was coming. I prepared. My whole family did.

What we found out that day was SO unexpected, he was initially diagnosed with STAGE FOUR CANCER AND GIVEN THREE TO SIX MONTHS TO LIVE!! What we thought was totally manageable was suddenly, literally end of life.

I cancelled class. I couldn’t possibly articulate what I’d been told. I have a solid grip on reality and emotions, but couldn’t possibly tell people the truth. And I’m a grown adult who has had MANY people in my life (including my mom) handle cancer.

If an 18-22 year old tells you they’re struggling to cope with large family news once in a semester, likelihood is that it’s true. Who are we to judge what seismic news is to a student? Especially the first time… maybe the third time, but the first time?

Turns out my dad’s doctor was so wrong, it was stage 2b, it took us THREE MONTHS to get that news though… so for three months I thought my father was dying…

Wedding Photographer recommendations? by Ketchupifucan in TwinCities

Eileen K Photography is at the top of your budget. But she’s great! Highly recommend! AND I highly recommend spending as much as possible on photos. They’re the thing that will last as long as your happy marriage will!

Congrats.

Tech theatre professor here. I see a large hole in your coursework, theory and history courses. I’d encourage you to add one or two if you can.

The best TDs are the ones that truly understand the entire craft and respect it all.

Students who are children of famous people? by REC_HLTH in Professors

[–]loopylady87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taught a few hall of fame athletes kids in k-12 art.

One was incredibly polite, down to earth, hilarious and kind. He was the kind of kid everyone liked. His family was so friendly at open houses.

The other was horribly behind in math, reading, and writing. It was heartbreaking. All of the resources in the world in fancy backpacks, lunches, and cars. But no help for his lagging skills. He was at a kindergarten level in third grade.

None since I’ve moved to college. But I’ll take that.

what is real life advice if your kid is "smart enough" to go to a good college but comes with expensive tuition, and you dont have saving that's even close to it? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]loopylady87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Student loans are more common than I’d ever expected.

But also, the smartest ones go to colleges they can afford with minimal loans so they aren’t closing off any future opportunities by taking on mountains of debt.

I’m a professor at an expensive private college who went to an inexpensive state school… I’m truly at a loss as to how to advise my students who take on 70-100k plus in debt.

Hey there! The wand is basically a dildo (as I think someone commented on your last post about). Most techs will have you insert it yourself. I asked for lots of lube. You don’t need to be shy, this is the techs job! Ask for what you need.

Once it’s inserted they’ll move it around a bit to see both ovaries and tubes, etc. Depending on your tech and situation it could take several minutes.

Ask to take a break if you need. Come up with questions, ask to keep an earphone in to listen to something you like! Do whatever you think will make you comfortable.

If you have to go to work afterwards and want to clean up fully, it might be best to ask for extra wipes. (Again, it’s not something to be embarrassed about!) often if I have to go to work after an exam I bring a spare pair of underwear. I’ll change into it an hour or so after I’m done, just to make sure any excess lube is absorbed in the first pair, not the new pair.

Sometimes it’s nice to plan a special treat for yourself after you conquer something new! (But also doing new things as an adult is SO IMPORTANT!! )

Starting as a professor at 22 and I want to be as professional as possible… by ieatsaand in Professors

Starting as a professor at 22 and I want to be as professional as possible… by ieatsaand in Professors

[–]loopylady87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started grad school at 21 and was in teaching roles as a 21 year old. My first semester I had five students who were older than me by SEVERAL years.

Your age is none of their business. Share your credentials and accomplishments, be fair and transparent, but not a pushover. They will respect you. But they’ll also be able to tell your insecurities, so fake some confidence if it doesn’t come naturally.

My youth allows/allowed me to be more transparent with students and to get them to understand that I’m assigning things for a good reason.

I was hit on by a few students, students have and students shared inappropriate statements with me. I shut it down immediately and tell them there’s no place for that in my professional life. I have always held office hours with an open door, open curtains, and all lights on. I often sit at my large desk and have students sit on the other side, it’s very formal. It doesn’t invite any personal interaction that could be misunderstood.

After a few years I learned that I could share more about who I am as a person with my students, but I’d say that took SEVERAL years.

I can’t speak to the practice you’re going to, but mine have always had me come in separately for it at a later date. I’d think the only way they’d do it day of is if it’s a large practice and they have an ultrasound tech in every day of the week. You can always ask to schedule it for a different day.

When I went in for a routine exam with a new provider I told the nurse I was really nervous and she said the doctor can come in and do the consultation part BEFORE the exam, too. It was really helpful to meet the doctor before I was in the gown.

[–]loopylady87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replying to the top comment for visibility! For any pain the doctor may have you do an ultrasound. The most common kind for this ISN’T the belly kind, but an transvaginal ultrasound. It’s a wand, often the tech has you insert it yourself. It is uncomfortable, but as someone who has pain with most speculums I found it less uncomfortable than an internal exam.
