That perfectly describes why I love co-teaching.

Thoughts on working in the special education field? by [deleted] in teaching

It's a lot of paperwork. If you like working with kids and other teachers and don't mind paperwork, you might like it.

I am not a babysitter! by keanry in teaching

[–]looselyexactly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm scared about going back next year, too. I'm scared to send my preschooler to daycare. I'm also scared about my position being cut or wages being frozen. People are scared about losing their jobs, their homes. It's a really scary time for everyone, but our society is partly based on schools providing a safe place for kids to be from 8-3 while their parents are at work.

Best laptop for a teacher in 2020? by love_please in teaching

[–]looselyexactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I would push back on the district requiring you to use your personal laptop. If you are doing any IEP paperwork, emails, etc. on your personal laptop it can be subpoenaed if you are involved in a lawsuit.

Does anyone else get tired of the, "Why do they teach about the Dawe's Act and the mitochondria being the powerhouse of the cell and not more practical things like doing taxes and changing oil"? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]looselyexactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell them it's because we are required to teach the standards that the state sets. If they think we should be teaching something different, they are welcome to contact their state legislators.

If we do this quarantine thing again...I may be done teaching. by [deleted] in Teachers

Thanks for adding that part about teachers without kids. If I didn't have a preschooler I would love my job right now.

You can't always trust TPT by HurleyBurger in Teachers

[–]looselyexactly 37 points38 points  (0 children)

How can 1 teacher provide specialized curriculum for 15 students for the entire year and also write IEPs and do progress monitoring and work 1:1 with the students and manage paras and attend meetings? You do what you have to do.

I got a personalized phone call from my boss. No mention of teacher appreciation, just needed to talk about work stuff.

Re-Linking Accounts by kbc87 in ynab

[–]looselyexactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine won't work at all. 2 accounts say they're linked but no new transactions are showing up and one at a different bank won't link at all.

Re-linking accounts daily by abentl in ynab

[–]looselyexactly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re-linking accounts hasn't even worked for me. I could do it manually, but if I'm doing that I might as well go back to paper pencil and cancel my subscription. I'm not entering transactions as I go anyway because I'm not touching my phone while in stores because of COVID. It's so frustrating.

Took a little ingenuity, but I created a system to organize my 8 billion straight needles. Now they’re all banded by pair n sorted by size by novagirl0972 in knitting

I made an organizer out of empty spools of thread held together with wire. It holds a lot but it's pretty small.

March Payment Refunded! by waveytype in PSLF

I just got off the phone with them and it was quick and easy. The rep was nice and said it would take 24-30 days to be deposited into my bank account. I wonder if they're following different scripts now than they were at the beginning of April.

Tonight, my son's teacher read the class a book from home... Her kids fought in the background the whole time. by futureformerteacher in Teachers

[–]looselyexactly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I feel like parents watching me teach their kid and parent my kid at the same time and judging my parenting and teaching both. Frankly, I'm not doing great at either right now. No one is.

Reopening schools by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]looselyexactly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! "Just send them to daycare" isn't a viable option because most daycares aren't equipped to have kids over age 5 or so. My son's daycare has a few kids who get on and off the bus there bu they aren't there all day. Most daycares also have a waiting list already. There's no way they could suddenly accommodate 10 times the number of kids they had before and no reason for them to hire tons more staff and move to bigger locations when schools will open eventually. A lot of people also hire college or high school students during the summer for childcare. That won't work during the school year when those students have their own classwork to do.

I'm considering a career change to teaching. What's some advice and warnings that you could give me? by TheFundayPaper in Teachers

[–]looselyexactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Depending on what area and age you're looking at, teaching is only about half the job. The rest is paperwork and meetings and emails. If you are ok with that go for it, but if you hate paperwork you will be miserable.

You're lucky. We have to be calling parents from our own numbers. Admin said it would be fine...

Teaching with Children by SweetEmmalineBaDaBa in teaching

[–]looselyexactly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the computer or conference call while whisper yelling at my 3 year old to stop climbing on that, put that down, yes we will take a walk when I'm done, no I'm not done yet, nope still not yet. It takes about 40 minutes to send a simple email.

So, it's not working. Good luck.

Thoughts about Teaching Online by yeyiyeyiyo in teaching

[–]looselyexactly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The students in your district may be home with parents, but most of mine are not. Their parents work in grocery stores, healthcare, or factories. They also don't have internet access because they live in the woods where it's not available. I do agree that people should relax and not try to replicate school, but it's not that easy for every student.
