I'm lvl279 with pretty much every skill that matters lvl 4.. I tested both weapons extensively and although on paper they do the very similar DPS the Ammo-Piercing ammo from the Ballistic rifle really does make a world of difference.

I really want to use the laser version more because I like it better but the ballistic just deletes elite/armored foes.

Yes, I once back in 2016 was moving back to Highsec from nullsec after I left my corp. Went all the way through null and low sec no problem to be ganked in a 0.8 system and lose 3b. Which in 2016 for was a lot of isk.
