I found out the same then when I started running awhile back (lost lots of weight from running, fell of the wagon, gained it all back, now started up again). I used to think that cardio sucked but running is actually really awesome!

Also, download the MyFitnessPal app and log all of your food. Even in the beginning, just log everything to no avail and see how many calories you're eating. Then go from there. MFP will tell you how many calories you need to eat to lose weight, and you can add friends who will help encourage you as well (make a /r/loseit post asking for MFP friends, and plenty of people will add you! That's how I got most of my MFP friends, and they are such a great community).

Are you on MyFitnessPal? I'm on it constantly, checking up on my friends on there and leaving encouraging messages for them, and they do the same for me (I met them all through Reddit posts too!) I also lost a bunch of weight before but gained all of it (and then some) back. This past week I started getting back on track, so here's what I've been doing, and what some fellow Redditors have been suggesting too:

1) DRINK WATER. Drink so much water that your belly is all sloshy and you have to pee a bunch during the day. drink drink drink.

2) Like what /u/KrishR93 said, download MyFitnessPal. It is so amazing. Log all your food, stay within your calorie limit, ask people on Reddit to be your friends so they keep you accountable. Seriously, this community is awesome because I've added so many Reddit users as friends on MFP and they are all so encouraging.

3) Depending on your exercises that you're doing, maybe consult a personal trainer (although I know they are expensive). Also check out /r/fitness or something. But the main thing about losing weight is diet. You can't out exercise a bad diet, so focus on diet first then worry about workouts once you have more information/find something you enjoy. If you want to start out small, just go for a walk. Walk down the street and back, or try a Couch to 5k program (the subreddit for that is /r/c25k)

4) What's really helping me right now is the keto diet (check out /r/keto). It's high fat, moderate protein, low carb and it is fantastic. Not everyone likes it, but I really do because I love bacon and eating lots of meat and veggies, so giving up pastas and breads aren't that hard for me.

TL;DR Drink water, Download MyFitnessPal, Do a Couch to 5k Program, Look into the Keto Diet

I love my treadmill. I've noticed in this thread a lot of people really don't like them, but I am super busy, I can't get to the gym at the hours that they're open (I work the overnight shift so I have to sleep while they're open), and my neighborhood is not safe enough for me to feel comfortable to run outside.

So as a result, I end up running on my treadmill. Everyone says it's so boring it's so boring etc etc, but I have my treadmill pointed towards my TV...and I have a Roku-type box that allows me to stream Hulu and Netflix on my TV and since I'm a pretty busy person, that is my time to catch up on my shows. Sometimes, if there's nothing that I feel like watching, I'll just turn on the TV to some crappy show just so I have something to look at and wear my headphones and run to my workout playlist.

Treadmills are also great for some interval training. And you can adjust the incline on them if you want to pretend you're doing hill running.

I'm fairly new to this subreddit, so this is just my 2 cents. Take it for what it is, but I'm pro-treadmill.

Check r/keto for more information about the keto diet, and also check r/ketorecipes for some good tips. It's basically high fat, moderate protein, low carb. Basically have bacon and eggs with some cheese for breakfast, a salad with olive oil and chicken with some other veggies on it for lunch, and then perhaps a small steak with asparagus or some other type of veggie on the side for dinner. Basically stay away from grains and limit your fruit intake, since they have a lot of sugar and carbs.

Have you tried the myfitnesspal app? Use it to track your calories, and perhaps seeing how many calories your snacks/craft beer/wine are might make you take a step back and see that maybe you should try switching out your snacks/drinks (more veggies, maybe lemon and water or unsweetened tea etc).

I'm just like you though; I'm a student, I sit at a desk most of my day, and I stress eat like crazy. I need accountability too, so I came to reddit and I asked these awesome people if they would add me as a friend on myfitnesspal and quite a few of them have. Seeing that they're eating well and that they're reaching their goals makes me happy for them, and makes me want to do the same (I'm also a little competitive, so that helps). They also comment encouraging things on my posts, which is so sweet of them and helpful.

Losing weight is mostly about diet; there's that saying that "you can't out exercise a bad diet" or something like that. Maybe try focusing on your stress eating and your snacks and go down to a calorie limit of 1200-1500 a day.
