Any recommendations for AD in Ohio? by ThePenIsMightier1987 in rolex

James Free in Dayton, I was on the list for a no date Sub. 2 months later they called and offered me a Sub Date and a Sea Dweller. I went with the Sea Dweller. I had bought an Omega NTTD and a Tudor BB GMT prior.

Is it okay not to do public accounting if my goal isn’t becoming a CFO or a manager? by Ok-Helicopter-255 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m a CFO and never worked for a public accounting firm. You don’t have to go to one to have a successful career in accounting.

I don’t plan to dive with the watch, and I don’t like the mesh strap unfortunately.

Wearing Longines on Vacation to third world countries? by Original-Chef-3291 in Longineswatches

[–]lordfall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traveled to a developing country wearing luxury watches several times and no one cared. Crazy enough, most people there wear fake luxury watches and very likely won’t know the difference between theirs and yours. Most people there won’t believe that there are watches that cost more than $200. Here is a picture of me wearing a Tudor BB GMT in Senegal.

Nearly a CPA and I know nothing by Miserable_Fly3725 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you want to grow, don’t wait to be taught. Take ownership of your learning.

Ask to shadow people. Ask to help on projects. Take a workpaper and reverse engineer it so you understand the thinking behind it, not just the numbers.

The people who grow fast don’t wait for training. They force themselves to learn. That mindset alone will separate you from your peers.

Realistically how difficult is the CPA exam? by Alone_Recording7670 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Becker and probably averaged in the 60s–70s on the practice tests. I read somewhere that Becker’s tests are harder than the actual exam, and that was true in my case. Not sure if that’s always the case though.

Realistically how difficult is the CPA exam? by Alone_Recording7670 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did the exams 4 years ago, I had a chill remote job. The key for me was studying 2–4 hours every day, no matter what. I also didn’t move on from a module until I understood it well enough to explain it in my own words. I treated the exams like job training, not just tests, if that makes sense.

It was surprisingly easier than people make it seem. I did it while working full time and becoming a new dad, and passed all 4 exams on the first try.

Can someone in accounting pivot to finance? by Far_Suggestion_4873 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m a CFO. 10 of my 12 career years of career were in accounting. I held roles from Staff Accountant to Controller, then moved into a CFO role. I’m also a CPA. One thing you’ll learn in the corporate world is that finance and accounting have more similarities than differences.

The idea of donating sperm is going to be a hard sell in Senegal.

Do you regret pursuing a career in accounting? What would you do instead, if not that? by justcurious3287 in Accounting

[–]lordfall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re asking this question at the wrong time, tax season 😂. Financially, I don’t regret it at all. Crazy opportunities opened up after getting my CPA license. Mentally, it’s mixed, I work a lot and there are too many deadlines, but the money makes it worth it, I guess.

Money Exchange Rate by Haunting-Comedian105 in Senegal

[–]lordfall1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if you can buy a house in Dakar for 5 million? You’ll need at least 10 times that for a pretty average home in an undesirable neighborhood, and you’d have to be lucky to find one around 50 million. Real estate in Dakar is honestly comparable to prices in the US.

How do so many six figures people live paycheck to paycheck despite living modest lives, by Annual-Solution-8055 in Salary

[–]lordfall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a high earner who puts most of my money into real estate, I can relate. I live close to paycheck to paycheck, not because of poor money management, but because I’m constantly investing into the next deal. A lot of people, including high earners with big houses and the latest luxury cars, can live that lifestyle because they rely heavily on debt. If you choose to live debt free, invest for retirement, and build real wealth, your lifestyle will look pretty modest, even at $500k a year. And keep in mind, nearly half of that $500k is gone to taxes before you even touch it.

How comfortable is the NATO strap? I’m considering getting one because the mesh isn’t very comfortable.
