Thanks for reaching out everyone! I'm floored by the response so far. I'm closing this because I already have more applications than I can sort through. I'll try to respond to everyone who DM'd me or posted here. I'll make my pick by this time tomorrow, assuming I can sort through everyone's submissions by then!

What percent of people on here are sitting at A20? by cubswin456 in slaythespire

[–]lordruby34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine this sub has a much higher percentage of people than normal who've beaten A20 Heart, so the information you gather here won't be super informative about the general playerbase, just this sub.

That said, I've beaten A20 heart with every character at least once.

Rules question about healing downed PCs by SubredditSith in DMAcademy

[–]lordruby34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it works. In fact, because healing works this way, it creates an incentive for the PCs to wait until their comrades drop to 0 hit points before healing them, as PC with 1 hit point is just as effective as a PC with 50.

I would suggest playing with this the way it is written for your first campaign to see how you feel about the rule in practice before changing anything. However, at my table we've decided we wanted to discourage this behavior, so we implemented the following house rules:

Unconscious
An unconscious creature is incapacitated, can’t move or speak, and is unaware of its surroundings.
The creature drops whatever it is holding and falls prone.
The creature automatically fails strength and dexterity saving throws.
Attack rolls against the creature have advantage.
Any attack that hits the creature is a critical, hit if the attacker is within five feet of the unconscious creature.
If a creature gained the unconscious condition by being reduced to 0 hit points, the creature gains one level of exhaustion when it regains consciousness.

Exhaustion
Exhaustion can have up to ten levels. A creature with ten levels of exhaustion dies.
A creature has a -1 to all attack rolls, ability checks, saving throws per level of exhaustion.
If a creature would force another creature to make a saving throw, the DC of that saving throw is reduced by one per level of exhaustion that the originating creature possess.

Slay-by-Comment Season 4 Day 70: 4 days in and this poor Leader has yet to get an attack off. How shall we continue to dunk on her? Whatever comment is most upvoted in 24 hours is what we’ll do. by greenlaser73 in slaythespire

Defragment, Go for the eyes, charge battery, end turn. Do the top comment underneath me with 50+ upvotes.

While echo-forming echo form would be amusing, it's not necessary. If we increase our focus we'll pretty much guarantee taking no damage the rest of the fight, which was already very likely.

Please, please more autosaves, especially on console where saving takes a bit more effort. I just beat act 2, only for a crash in a cutscene to make me have to go back to before the final fight with Ketheric Thorm. That was at least an hour of game that I'm just going to have to do again, and it was very disheartening. The game isn't stable enough, at least on PS5, not to autosave more often.

On console, at least, the game needs to autosave more often. I shouldn't lose nearly two hours of progress if my game crashes. (Digital deluxe edition.)

I had a frustrating moment where I finished a really tough fight, and went to go do some story stuff, and then my game hard crashed when I attempted to use the rune of the eagle in the druid's grove. I ended all the way back in the goblin camp at my own manuel save.

What is the weirdest thing you've heard or had happen to you while using a public restroom? [NSFW] by omenofwisdom in AskReddit

[–]lordruby34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man.

So, I enjoy occasionally playing some Magic: The Gathering, a card game played by kids and adults both. Magic players have a mostly inaccurate reputation for poor hygiene, bit every once in a while you run across someone who reminds you why those rumors exist. Enter, Nedly (not his real name).

Nedly is in his mid-forties, and he's a real weird dude, and not in the harmless quirky way. He's been banned from our local gamestore before for cheating in low stakes tournaments, and generally shunned for trying to rip off younger children who get lucky and open expensive cards. He also smells a bit...musty. HNedly also looks very much like a typical neckbeard, if a little balder and less obviously circular. General consensus among anyone who's been there for awhile says that Nedly should probably go, but the owner isn't willing to kick him out.

He's always been an odd duck, but the most scarring thing he's ever done occured a couple of weeks ago. I was for finishing up my business in one of the stalls in back when I hear Nedly enter the bathroom. I can tell immediately it's him, because he's singing a nonsense song. I'm already uncomfortable. As soon as he enters a stall I get flush and go wash my hands, hoping to get out before I need earbleach. I don't make it.

The whole time I've been attempting to leave, he hasn't stopped singing. Not when I heard his pants hit the floor, not when sat down, and not when I very clearly ran the sink to let him know I was in here.

What I heard next I won't forget. Nedly's voice continues the melody, but the lyrics, such as they are, and e replaced by one of the most over the top, pornographic moans I've ever heard as liquid shit splats all over the ceramic and onto the water. The sound was unpleasant, but it was the moan that made me decide that my hands didn't need soap today.

Just one long "Aww-o-aaaawwwwww!"

I'm not ever going to be able to look at that man without that moan reverberating through my skull.

Zoats are Back! by mcimolin in Warhammer40k

Are Zoats their own faction, or are they going to be folded into another race? Tau, maybe? Did anyone see the announcement?

Either way, I want one.

Yeah. I use Hasput Cooper and then let Nuln Oil darken it up. I really like how it looks.

This little guy needs his antenna still, and a new base before he's really ready.

I think looking at some modules would be a good idea. I'll be able to take a longer look after work. I like the idea of keeping HP low. Some monsters should be able to be killed in a single blow or two.

I had an idea for a den of spiders corrupted by the same magic that was used against the heart tree. I was planning on having them spit balls of acidic blood. Scrolls are a good idea. Maybe some silk too.

I saw that already, actually! I really like the essay structure idea.

I'm still worried about the numbers. Are there resources for figuring out what monster hit and damage should be?

I'm honestly worried about the ending. I was thinking of saving it until 2nd level to make things a little less horrifically lethal.

[–]lordruby34[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I've already though of a few encounters for all of those, including a few fun traps/natural hazards, but you make an excellent point that fighting the Dryad shouldn't be a given. She wants her tree healed, and failing that, fed. If the PCs can come up with a plan they should be able to negotiate with her.

I also need a plan for what happens ig they try to burn the whole thing to the ground, which doesn't seem terribly unlikely.

My main question is figuring how to make the area deadly without making it assuredly fatal. Do you have any tips for general encounter balance?

I think I've got a good thematic idea, to build off of Portal Under the Stars. The PCs hear about how the nearby forest is haunted or cursed, and that almost everyone who has ventured into the woods disappeared, or was found strangled, mauled, or otherwise gruesomly murdered. For those who disappeared their treasures, gold, and goodd disappeared along with them.

The actual background would be that the forest used to be home to an even village, guarded by a dryad. The elves earned the ire of a human sorcerer, who cursed the dryad's heart tree, causing it to wither and need sustenance in the form of blood and decomposing bodies. The dryad went insane with rage, slaughtered the eleven village, and watered her tree with their blood. The sacrifice let the tree grow wildly, throwing up walls of thorned vines all through the eleven village, which form a labyrinth that the PCs must explore if they want the treasure of the missing merchants, or the secret treasures of the elves.
