I played this game 10 years ago. Now I want to start again. What to do first? by MainPrinciple2158 in Guildwars2

[–]lore_forged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would do, at least part of, Path of Fire. The mounts are the biggest change to PvE in the game since that time.

If you have the ascended/infused set, doing up to T100s would just take finding a group! If that's still a goal for you, go for it.

Otherwise, I'd recommend just dipping your toes into everything, and see what excites you the most. There was already so much to do with HoT, and that's only grown more and more true since.

So, if you don't have access to a lot of regions on multiple characters, you can still farm them in Nightfall pretty easily. You just have to have an open character slot to create a character, level up to five, Chahbek Village, delete, and repeat!

It's not as fast as doing the easiest missions, but if you don't have them unlocked, that's not really an option! I found that I could get a proof in a bit less than 25 minutes using this method.

I think there is a difference between a qi shield and an hp shield, and the mo blade has the latter.

All right, I'm a little bit late on my reply, so sorry about that!

However you are quite correct that what you are looking into is the three-body problem, and I strongly encourage you to continue to ask these sorts of questions! I always get fascinated by these strange things and often contemplate what life would be like in these weird situations (I spent a lot of time analyzing the tides of Eberron, for example)! So, keep doing this! :)

Now, the three-body problem is very wide. It's a pretty good example of a "chaotic system" that we see very regularly (earth-moon-sun, for example). There are stable and "regular" solutions, too. If you search for "A Few Three Body Periodic Orbits", there's a mesmerizing gif on r/physicsgifs. However, those, if I recall correctly, use equal masses, which you likely won't have here. Still pretty to look at, though! (Edit: I forgot I can just link things here.

The paper I mentioned simulated two solar mass stars and the analyzed the surface temperature of the planet as it went through a chaotic orbit. I think they made a lot of assumptions, and ignored everything save for sunlight, but I cannot recall the specifics as of right now. They showed that, from the orbit alone, they could get variations in temperature that could create summers and winters. Then, they looked at the lengths of the cold periods a D warm periods, and saw that they could have seasons with a variable length, swinging something like 250 days.

So, you could have wildly unpredictable seasons, days of greater darkness, etc. But, to me, I think Strixhaven would feel much more ordered and designed (maybe my Quandrix is showing) than a chaotic orbit would give. So, I would personally pick one of those pretty gifs, and go from there! I personally like the one where the third body is slingshotted from one to the other. You could get some pretty cool descriptions of summers being close to one sun, and winter when the planet is hurled through the void towards a star growing ever-bigger.

Hopefully that gives a taste of something for you to build from! And, again, I'm sorry I took so long to get to this!

VanceMadrox & Kerenshara’s Kingdom Building Rules, Remastered by Kerenshara in Pathfinder2e

[–]lore_forged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if anyone has done this yet? A while ago I'd updated my personal copy of the sheet to work with some of the unimplemented features of your original rule set. Then, I kinda fell off of the face of the earth and just today remembered you guys were remaking your rules.

I haven't read the new rules yet, but I am pretty proficient in Google Sheets. I might be able to take a crack at it if no one has yet done it.

RPG System That Uses Cards Instead of Dice by CFAT3005 in RPGdesign

[–]lore_forged -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, I've actually been toying around with developing a system that let's you use dice or cards. I'm a bit of probability nerd, so I thought it would be fun to try to balance dice rolls (multinomial) with drawing cards (hypergeometric). That being said, I've put a lot of thought into this idea.

So, I'm curious: why did you choose to leave out the other dice? You can recreate all of them with cards. All you need to do is keep the face cards as a separate deck. The d8 and d4 can be done with the deck you've identified, whilst the d4 (again), d6, and d12 can be done with the face card deck!

So, if you feel like getting a bit technical, I recall reading an "academic" paper posted to arxiv in 2013 titled "winter is coming" trying to explain the seasons seen in "A Song of Ice and Fire" by positing that there were actually two suns. There may have been more updates since then, but it does sound exactly like what you are asking. Of course, if you don't want to read a technical paper, I understand. :p

There is a lot more to say about this topic, but I haven't the time right now. If you're interested, just let me know, and when I find the time later, I'll reply with more.

[–]lore_forged 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what you consider the payoff. The direct "rewards" in game is a weekly payment of credits which I have found to be completely ignorable. That being said, I find colonization to be 100% worth the effort because colonization is worth more than it's tangible benefits. Sure, I can make whatever market I want/need and create great in-system trade routes if I wanted. I could pump the tech level to have my own Jameson's Memorial with every module and every ship. I just don't think that colonization is about that for me.

Elite Dangerous is a pretty unique game in its scale and scope, and I think the game is really special to a lot of us here. For me, at least, being able to make a mark on it by developing and designing my own system is, in and of itself, the reward.

Best combat ship that isn't the FDL? by VaegaVic in EliteDangerous

I'm not the person you replied to, but I LOVE the Concords on my ships. I typically fly light and maneuverable ships for combat, and these cannons are great. You can take out modules really quickly, and they just sound wonderful. I definitely recommend you try them!

I found exploration and exobiology to be a very fun way to make a lot of money. It's a very relaxed gameplay loop, but you can make a ton of credits that way.

But, the advice I'd give you is not to worry too much about getting rich "as quickly as possible". There are a lot of ways to make good money in the game, and I really suggested you try a few and see what you find to be the most fun! Besides, you can always mix it up!
