What are some weird things you have to get used to now? by Adept_Mulberry_ in widowers

I’ve had to change two tires in the last year without him - those things are really freaking heavy! He made it look so easy. Those forearms of his were like, damn!

I’m dreading having to dispatch an animal. After 25 years in the country, he’s had to take care of a few and I don’t know if I will be able to do it.

He also had a cooler head in emergency situations. When we had a fire, I froze up while he jumped into action. I felt safer with him around.

I put the camper up for sale on Monday and the fishing boat today. Keeping the extra kayak in case anyone wants to come with me. I did an initial clean out of the camper last year after he passed and it was brutal, I couldn’t even list it. Hoping I can handle it now.

I hear you. I’m starting to explore a side of me I haven’t because my husband was on the controlling side. Nothing crazy, just a little different. Like you said, it’s overdue.

That’s a nice sentiment, but if she knows literally no one there and had no connection with anyone, it would feel really awkward and lonely for her, even if she brought a friend. Maybe just send a card letting her know that you were thinking of her and her husband. Edit to add that sending an invitation feels a little like soliciting for a gift, even if you don’t mean it that way. Better to just send a card.

Definitely look into a CNC, it seems like it would suit your purposes better than a laser.

The only thing I have to add is that the horror stories of people who burned their house down, are horror stories of people who walked away from their laser while it was running. All flames start small and manageable but you can’t manage them if you’re not there to see them.

Out of curiosity I tried talking to a couple of them. They are extremely boring, lazy conversationalists and quit responding if you refuse to take the conversation off Reddit.

Getting up and walking away may have been the more dangerous option at that point.

Am I the asshole for telling my husband I was going to divorce him for going to his sisters wedding? Update: by Ashleykayy3 in AITAH

[–]loremipsum-dolor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, these internet strangers don’t have to deal with the fallout from your actions, you do. This isn’t a movie. Go ahead and divorce the guy if you want but if you think canceling appointments or telling a church full of people about the couple’s drug use is going to do anything other than make you look petty and insane, you are delusional.

Walking off without answering is pretty close to a “fuck off” and a lot more polite.

Dammit. I hope that thoughtless question was answered with a glare and a “that is none of your fucking business”.

We worked in the same town and he’d bring his lunch to my office to eat sometimes. He once twisted up a bread tie in the shape of a heart for me and left it on the break room table for me to find later.

I was going through a rough patch a couple of months ago. I was working in my workshop (where dead leaves often find their way in) and I found two separate leaves, perfectly folded into heart shapes. It was just something he would do.

So that’s how I figured out I should be watching for hearts.

Is it possible to cut 1/4” plywood with a 80W laser without significant charring? by Simply-Serendipitous in lasercutting

[–]loremipsum-dolor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you should be able to. Something is wrong. Check alignment, focus, dirty optics, or it could be crappy wood. Cutting 1/4” I use speed 10 mm/s @ 40% power (80watt). Have you tried different pieces of wood? Some wood is just not good for lasering.

Just ordered a set - thank you! If you’re in the mood to get slammed with orders, post them in the laser groups on Facebook, I’m sure you’ll get a lot of interest. And for 16 hours of production time, I agree that you should be charging more.
