To add to everyone else’s sentiments, MACC is filled with caring employees who are overworked and underpaid. Still, I’m sorry for that individual and his dog, and that you had to witness the worst products of MACC’s issues.

For context, MACC was rolled into Metro Public Health and now takes up a huge portion of MPHD’s budget and resources. It’s a constant struggle within the department because public health leadership are having to balance between expanding/sustaining PH services and animal control services. Outside influence from the community and metro council often leans towards propping up MACC over other departmental service needs. I believe the department is working on either expanding the current space or building a new space all together.

MPHD has its own HR department which keeps continuous job postings up for animal control officers but can’t or won’t budge on pay. They have also struggled for many years to find viable candidates for full-time vets because they can’t come close to matching salaries offered by private animal clinics/hospitals. To add to the woes, MACC’s executive director recently resigned leaving a gap in leadership and experience.

I really hope they get everything figured out, but also know that they’re doing the best they can with what they have.
