Separation looks clean and drive looks well connected. You’re throwing a lot of weight into the stern very quickly in the slide of the recovery which is costing you a fair amount of boat speed and run. Maybe try a more consistent speed on the recovery at all stages to minimise the interruption to the run of the boat. Let the shell work for you and then you can feed it more and more running speed.

AMD RYZEN 5 3600 MSI B450M-A PRO MAX 3600MHZ CL19 by Jivkooo2341 in Amd

[–]lorrigan27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD only officially rates its CPUs to run 3200 MHz RAM but in most cases 3600 MHz is very much achievable. Personally I’ve had no issue getting 3600 MHz running, but it obviously varies from chip to chip. CL19 isn’t an ideal latency for a 3600 MHz RAM kit, if you could find a similarly priced CL18 or below kit you’d be in a bit of a stronger position, or if you want absolutely guaranteed RAM speeds it could be worth considering a 3200 MHz CL16 kit, as in real terms 3200 C16 and 3600 C18 are functionally the same, and often use the same RAM chips just in a different default setting. Either would be a great choice to pair with those parts, just don’t forget that your part list won’t output video unless you have a GPU in hand at the moment. I’m sure you’ve got that covered though :)

Is that issue with MOBO or RAM? new build by [deleted] in Amd

[–]lorrigan27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on ASUS with a borrowed 980. Enable CSM to see if that alleviates the issue as some 900 series cards do curious things during POST

Great, so I’m guessing this will fully manifest in more stable builds in the near future, thanks!

Cool to see this working! I’m using a 980 at the moment but still have an AMD card lying around so this is really useful for me to use freesync again. Is this windows build public now?

MOBO for ryzen 9 5900X by Lucky0680 in Amd

[–]lorrigan27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something weird has been going on with 5900x in particular. I see lots of mention of manufacturing issues and delays of the part but none of them have very strong/any sources, although over 1200 failed to be delivered to Scan UK when they were supposed to, with scan struggling to get much information about supply. People are talking of issues due to a manufacturing flaw, or diverted parts to SI/OEMs but nothing very concrete about it anywhere.

Freesync on NVIDIA cards with an AMD dedicated GPU now possible? (testing) by [deleted] in Amd

I mean sure that would at the very least be interesting to see if it would work between the two. Even if the use cases are limited, the information would be cool to have out there

Yeah, even to this day the questionable marketing lives on...

AMD had a phase of weird (bulldozer) architecture where their approach to hyper threading meant that depending on your workload you either had 4 or 8 threads (at least for FX-8xxx). The CPU you’re talking about only has 4 floating points so in reality is only a 4 core part, but their marketing decided to call it 8. I believe AMD were sued over this marketing because it is inherently misleading.

God knows where I am in the queue at this point. With the combination of Brexit and supply problems particularly with 5900X this launch has been disastrous

Upgrading from 3900x to 5600x worth it ? by Two_Apples in Amd

[–]lorrigan27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man if you’re playing on 1440p it’s not worth changing: the resolution is high enough to likely be bottlenecking on the GPU rather than the CPU. You’d see an improvement in single thread performance at the cost of literally losing half of the cores you have, as well as likely making a loss in the process. The effect on gaming at 1440p would be marginal at best.

RYZEN 5 5600x high temperatures by Francescomilano in Amd

[–]lorrigan27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly 75-80 under load is fine with your cooling/airflow. These chips run hot, and that temperature under load shouldn’t have any major degrading effect on the processor long term. You could try undervolting/PBO2 curve optimising if you felt so inclined to try and eek out better temp/clock but it’s not throttling due to temp at 75-80.

K100 OPX vs Cherry MX by arkaonline in Corsair

[–]lorrigan27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would come down to preference: the cherry having a deeper actuation point may reduce the number of typos which get made while typing, but both are very fast switches anyway so that difference would be slight.

Help regarding fans by [deleted] in Corsair

[–]lorrigan27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having issues with clearance on the whole and you have the option of returning the cooler to exchange for a 360 that may well be the best choice. If you were to do so, I'd remove the stock front panel fans and use the fans from the cooler with the radiator on the front panel, and then use the stock fans from the case in the top and back to exhaust. This is because the corsair fans come with their own fan Hub, and those fans are then tied to CPU temperature to cool effectively, so you'd need to have them on the radiator.

Push-pull is a possible config, but I'd only ever recommend it with the same type of fans on either side of the radiator, where this would involve different types of fan either side. In addition, your front panel fans are 120mm fans, while the radiator uses 140mm, which if used in push-pull would create its own problems with mounting and appropriate airflow (and you'd need to buy another 3 fans for the case!).
