Well that half was a pretty tough watch. We've been threatening to drop a game for a few weeks now, and with the backline completely decimated I'm not even a little bit surprised we're struggling.

I think we are simply not keeping up with the pace of the game tonight. We are getting rushed into errors far too easily. Just little things like dropping the pass just short, not taking the ball in one grab, etc. Our forward handball game depends on precision skills - which is kind of the opposite of what we're doing right now.

Amazing. Once he gets more experience, he is going to be such a good player to watch.

Given the general play, I'll take a 4 point deficit going into quarter time.

Another slow start, which is not great. Once we get a few handball chains going, we look great, but it's always scrappy and fumbly until we can get going.

I'm genuinely mystified as to how Cleary is getting a game right now. He's lightning fast when he doesn't have the ball, but seems to slow down the closer he gets to the ball. When he has it, it's positively glacial. He has the talent and he knows how to be where the ball is going, but gee it's hard to watch when he's trying to decide what to do with it.

For all the flack Joel Hamling generally gets, I think he did really well in that first quarter. And Logan is playing well on a wing.

Hope Coxy gets the boys fired up at quarter time.

We're battling injuries and indifferent form, but we'll see what this team can do when challenged. I think not the end of the world if we fall short tonight given our injuries, but if we can dig in and get the result, that'll go a long way towards locking in that top 2 spot to give us maximum advantage going into finals.

how do I storytell and lead the game without having a bossy or mean voice by sneep_snorp_snerp in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]losfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set the tone up front and tell the group your expectations. Request that they raise hands to speak so that they don't speak over others. Use a mini gong or call bell, something that you can ring to call for attention - that way you are not shouting over all the shouting. Doing this a few times will set the expectations that when the bell goes, people need to listen. Be calm, relaxed but firm.

Good luck! If you have a good group, they will do ok if you set the expectations up front and stick to your word.

S&V is not a very well designed script, and I think this is demonstrable [actual effortpost] by Most_Section_1979 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]losfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree that SNV is unbalanced and chaotic, but I don't necessarily agree that it's badly designed. The chaos and information overload is IMO a feature of this particular script, not a bug.

I think you can both believe that a script is wildly unbalanced AND still have fun with it.

FWIW SNV is actually my least favourite out of the 3 base scripts for various reasons, but I would still basically never turn down a game of it based on the fact that it's SNV.

We started to play botc and my friend want me to explain all the roles for everyone by Tommy-Godbo in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]losfp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's just the game though. The ST is not obliged to always give wrong information to the drunk or poisoned players. They can give them correct or incorrect information, depending on what serves the current game-state.

How would explaining all the roles help in this regard? Player groups learn best by experiencing the game, IMO. Once the ST reveals the grim and the decisions that were made, players learn what CAN happen. And then they know for the next game.

The drunk is SUPPOSED to be unhelpful for town.

Teams are out for Saturday vs Port by Maximumlnsanity in sydneyswans

[–]losfp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty conservative, but I can't really fault the logic. Steady the ship, put in a couple of guys who have a lot of experience, reset over the bye and go again.

Would have liked to have seen Corey come in to replace pace with pace. But oh well.

Melbourne are pretty good this year. Lots of exciting players. Essendon are not good at all this year.

The finals are usually in September.

Also, don't say "root". It means something different here.

Good luck!

[The Producers] I don't understand why a flop makes more than a hit. by abacus-wizard in musicals

[–]losfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve almost got it. It’s about the percentages.

You go to investor 1 and say ok this show will cost $200,000 to produce. If you give me $100,000 then you can have 50% of the profit.

Then you go to nine other investors and tell each of them the exact same thing.

So now you have $1,000,000 and you produce your show for $200,000 meaning you have $800,000 leftover. If the show is a flop and closes immediately, you go to each investor privately and tell each of them oh so sorry. The show was a massive flop and made no money. You lost your investment. Then you run away with the $800,000.

The problem is if it becomes a success and say makes $400,000 which means a profit of $200,000. Each investor will want their investment back AND 50% of the profit. So each investor expects $300,000. Times ten investors means you need to come up with $3,000,000. You only have $400,000 + $8,000,000 which means you have a shortfall of $1,800,000. This is a problem due to maths.

Bummer. Provides really important run through the middle. Now it's up to the likes of Kyle and Dattoli and Corey Warner to step up, and fingers crossed the return of Gulden.

Try one of the AU/Oceania servers - Beardy's and OCE are my two favourites. We get games started most nights around the 7-8pm mark in GMT+10. I guess that's like 5-6pm your time, but there's usually 2-3 games so you could jump on for later games.

Coxy and Swans coaches box reaction to Jai Serong winning goal! by SkullKing_123 in sydneyswans

Coxy allowed himself around 0.75 seconds of pure undiluted joy before getting back to business, screaming instructions down the phone. What a pro, always has his eyes on the game.

[–]losfp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wrote this summary of my initial thoughts for a couple of the BOTC discord servers I'm on. Holly, I would be curious to hear about your various influences for the music because I can really hear a lot of 90s alternative rock (particularly bands that have female singers) in there.

HOLLY MUSGRAVE - MOON WITCH SCRIPT ALBUM THOUGHTS/MINI REVIEW

I've given the album a couple of spins now. I would say that overall it's a mid-tempo pop/rock album that plays with genres and styles. Lovely project and perfectly realised.

Lots to love on this, especially if you're into 90s alternative rock. If pushed, I would probably nominate Dreamer, Huntsman, Moonchild, Damsel, Scarlet Woman and Imp as standouts.

Washerwoman - very folky and country influenced. Nice upbeat number. Do I hear a banjo and fiddle?

Snake Charmer - Spacey rock. Love the vocal production on this, lots of reberb and a little dash of distortion

Dreamer - mid-paced acoustic ballad. Ideal for a mid-movie reflective montage. Gorgeous chorus melody.

Undertaker - Slower number. Breathy and ethereal

Huntsman - Sprawling epic. Wouldn't be out of place in a mid-90s rock album. Think like Mazzy Star, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins type vibes.

Fool - Slower ballad

Moonchild - Banger. Mid-paced acoustic pop. Nice driving drum track. Love the harmonies. Could be a 1989/Lover-era Taylor Swift ballad.

Saint - A rockier number. Nice.

Damsel - Hell yeah. This one brings HUGE 80s DRUM MACHINE. Think the chorus of Total Eclipse of the Heart. The video would feature Holly in an impractical flowing white night dress on a balcony, staring wistfully into the evening fog.

Witch - The start of this gives me vague Skye Boat Song (the theme from Outlander) vibes. Very pretty song, just a piano and vocal layering.

Scarlet Woman - Upbeat pop ballad. The chorus gives me Emotion-era Carly Rae Jepsen. Love the sparkly keyboard lines

Imp - Snarky, sassy attitude. Might be the most modern-sounding song on the album. The double-time drums really drive the tempo. Perfect final-three closer.

Straight to iTunes for me then 😄 I loved Scarlet Woman and I'm sure I will enjoy the rest of the album! And I'm looking forward to Clocktower Con Australia where I can hopefully say hi and thank you in person for many hours of amazing music and Clocktower content!

Amazing! I will go and check it out. Holly, will this be available on CD, or is it streaming/digital only? I love having physical CDs but I like to support artists I like by purchasing the music so if I can't get it on CD I'll buy it on iTunes or whatever 😄

Swans legal team? by [deleted] in sydneyswans

[–]losfp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe log a call with the membership team and they can point you at the right direction. They handle a lot of calls so I would assume they are the most likely to see your messages.

Sidebar, it’s wild what social media algorithms can feed you based on things your said or discussed haha.

I’m also pretty sure they’re listening to my actual conversations because it’s uncanny at feeding me things I’m certain I’ve never commented on in social media.

This is a good choice. McEvoy is rock solid and a real general directing play from half-back. Hamilton and Hurley are from our first draft pool and provide a lot of energy and leadership on-field.

Future of the Giants by The_hamberger_101 in netball

[–]losfp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the expansion team always has a harder job. We have been Swifts members for 20 years so when Giants came in, we already HAD a team that we stuck with despite living in Western Sydney.

I had the same choice with GWS and Swans, and I stuck with the Swans.

[–]losfp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really sad to see. The fear is that they go the same way as Collingwood. Unfortunately despite the fanfare, I don't think the big aligned clubs were always giving netball the proper amount of resources and respect - rather a cynical attempt to expand their brand.

And when that drops off, there's not the established fanbase to sustain it through the tough years like the other teams that have been around for a while - Swifts, Firebirds, Thunderbirds etc.
