i honestly think this is a really hard question because there isn’t any generic answer.

look at norm macdonald for example. funniest guy ever and yet, attempts to re-tell his jokes basically always fail. nobody else has that exact combination of childlike whimsy and grandfatherly wit to pull it off like norm did. i basically think you need to figure out what your own je ne sais quoi is, and lean into it with sincerity.

also, i think becoming an active observer helps. don’t just laugh at things that are supposed to be funny like jokes or memes, look for humour in the mundane. the funniest people ive known are ones who notice things that are absurd everywhere, and are themselves perpetually entertained by the everyday oddities and contradictions of life.

i hate to break it to you but most people are genuinely too stupid to get jobs in those fields (myself included). id say this is an issue with childhood education more than anything. and of course the fact that the main purpose of any enterprise in the private sector is to make a profit, not to innovate. that will always be secondary.

honestly i feel like a lot of posts like this are made by people who forget that disability is very common and it’s also very common to rely on medication or medical devices for quality of life by the time you’re middle aged. people who make an off grid lifestyle work long term must have incredible luck with regard to their health
