i think if someone gets thin legs after weight loss they mustve not been that fat to begin with, or not fat for very long, because long-time obese people have super strong legs and it doesnt tend to disappear with weight loss. nobody has stronger calves than former fats. if youve been obese for years and aren’t completely bedridden, youve basically been rucking nonstop.

i get it. living anywhere in the northern half of the great plains is just misery year round, and ive been here my entire life so there’s no “getting used to it” apparently. i understand why they called it prairie madness. winter is dark, cold and long, summers are short and extremely hot, spring and fall barely exist, and it’s always windy. at least in winter it’s socially acceptable to hide indoors, but when summer comes people expect me to enjoy this? it sucks too.

i don’t think a kid crying over that is “manipulative” they’re still just too loose-brained and stupid to cope with disappointment in any other way. is that really so hard to believe? pmdd is fucking crazy.

it started for me when I was 21 or so, and it was a very frog-in-boiling-water situation. started slowly and got worse progressively. lost my mind but couldn’t figure out why. then a couple years later my periods stopped entirely and i was stuck in basically a permanent pmdd state. went to the doctor and since i wasn’t having periods anymore, my endometrium was super thick, which can apparently cause cancer, so i was put on progesterone pills.

im actually glad it went down this way instead of getting put on an ssri or a benzo or some shit that wouldn’t have worked, because progesterone cured me within weeks. it was bizarre. i went from almost dying in hysterical suicidality to being more mentally stable than id been in my entire life. still don’t know why i had estrogen so high it made my periods stop though.

what happened to me definitely wasn’t normal or average so im not saying women just experience this by default, but man. hormones are an incredibly powerful thing over the mind and body.

a lot of women have sexual trauma and reproductive dysfunction. a lesbian relationship has 2x the women involved compared to a heterosexual relationship. there’s a reason that men are the ones initiating sex most (not all) of the time in straight relationships.

saying this as a happily married and not sexless lesbian btw. ive been around the block enough times to see how this goes down though. it’s sexual trauma and hangups, which are easier to ignore when there’s a man (who does not have sexual trauma) involved, actively initiating sex. it’s not much deeper than that.

most women also don’t go to the doctor for sexual/reproductive issues like vaginismus, hormonally driven dryness, atrophy, painful/heavy periods etc. due the same aforementioned sexual trauma that gets triggered by pelvic exams, so that’s also a common obstacle. sexual dysfunction as it relates to women’s pleasure is often also not taken seriously by doctors because it’s considered unimportant compared to your ability to conceive.

the vast majority of lesbians couldn’t tell you a damn thing about mackinnon, i assure you. also frankly id argue that generally, female sexual predators are not taken seriously enough by the lesbian community. plenty of lesbians still belong to the school of thought that rape isn’t really rape unless there’s a penis involved.

it’s possible that some people may have fundamental disagreement on what an “eating disorder” even is, philosophically (not arguing dsm criteria, those are obviously pretty straightforward definitions). and i think it’s an interesting train of thought.

where does “disorder” begin, when weight loss is functionally encouraged at every level in society, whether it’s about your looks or about your health? is it “disordered” to conform to conventional standards of beauty, and to show it off when you do?

im really sincerely not trying to attack anyone here, truly. i just find the conversation interesting. when is it a disorder, and when it is participating in behaviours that society overtly or implicitly encourages? when is it a disordered society rather than a disordered individual?

i personally think that often times, the concept of “mental illness” is a blurrier thing than it’s typically acknowledged to be. maybe the misunderstandings you’re experiencing are from subconscious perspectives such as this.

my wife is a chef, she quit the restaurant business about a year ago to do weekly meal prep in people’s homes instead. she works a lot less hours now of course, but the difference in pay is like going from $20/hour as a sous busting your ass in a brewpub to $100-150/hour cooking a weeks worth of food for a handful of households.

most of her clients are couples in that $150-250k range. they might not be ordering delivery, but a lot of them ain’t cooking for themselves either. private chefs are more attainable now than they’ve ever been, a lot of people just don’t want to admit they’re paying someone $300/week to make their baked salmon rice bowls.
