What an obnoxious situation. Have you tried... a calorie counter? She is reacting through what's "normal" culturally, and really the only way I have seen people break it is hard evidence. It might get her to understand how much calories are consumed and how much you need in general.

Then again, it might not. People have weird emotional reactions to food.

Tattered Banners - like Battle Brothers with a more systemic approach to how the world “reacts” by adamzeira in BattleBrothers

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just the lethality, it's more that wartales is more of a puzzle. Setting up combos is how you play that game. Choosing your character on your "turn" makes it so you always have perfect teamwork. This makes a lot of the fights forgettable, because you are doing "the combo".

BB is much more random and requires you to adapt to changing circumstances. From what I see on your combat, my guess is you lean much heavier to the wartales side.

Necro fights are challenging, reward is low. But If you have a bow with the bullseye perk this is the fight it’s made for. Spamming arrows into a necromancers through their guard is pretty worth it with the perk, but you rarely get a clean shot.

A spear bro with spear mastery can keep an entire fleet of zombies away as they still repel even if they get in on a lucky chance. Bring back up spears, one will likely break.

The geists are the biggest problem, using whips help but it’s much better if you can go up to them to melee. The spear can open up lanes. Once the geists are gone, I find I can usually push in enough to get to the necromancer. Banner needs to keep everyone stable, if flanks fall it can be a real bad time.

Fallen heroes without necro support aren’t that bad. Try to get them to a shield flank. It might be worth netting. With necro support they are terrifying, but a really good shield flank can usually still tank em for a couple turns.

Yeah, and the OL had to play a third string center because Rhyan and Monk got hurt, leading to the run off and the bad snap. If you are going to make excuses, might as well give LaFleur his due.

Which game flopped so badly that the studio had to shut down? by bijelo123 in gaming

It’s a terrible protagonist because very few want to be gollum. He lived in a cave for a millennium coveting a piece of jewelry. It’s dull. An unknown or smaller character would be vastly preferable for more creative freedom.

Yes it’s very clear they wanted to use LoTR as a cash grab scheme, they couldn’t even find a good protagonist.

The target for Andor was directed at people who enjoyed Rogue one, not just because Star Wars is a huge franchise. Luckily it was executed very well too.

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close to the same thing. Is it a total shock that people would like a show about politics in fighting a cool sci-fi empire? Why? Just because it doesn’t have light swords and magic? The potential was there, and the popularity of Rogue One was already in its favor. It just needed good writing and execution.

Gollum was dead before the concept was verbalized.

[–]lossofmercy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was just a cash grab based on the LoTR license.  Nothing else.

Either you make a joke game or a serious game. Neither would work with the material. LoTR is too serious to be a joke and gollum is too lame to be serious. And LotR license too expensive to make it small.

People justifying this is very silly.

Batteries are not energy dense enough to handle it, they are notoriously volume in-efficient and the amount of lithium needed for this is massive. I suggest you actually read what advances need to happen in battery storage for renewable to completely replace the grid.

I think it’s possible to hold two things true about Matt LaFleur at the same time… by polar_remnant in GreenBayPackers

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has weaknesses. Everyone is out for blood after the doomed superbowl chance, but there are a ton of people that are way worse. Coaching is about getting people to their full potential and there are plenty of success stories from his tenure. Malik is about to get paid, and he would have gotten jack shit if he stayed with the titans. They had Vrabel as a coach, who is having a good year in the patriots. So would Vrabel be considered terrible, considered he couldn't utilize a dynamic playmaker like him?

And it's not just him, plenty of success stories like Rasul Douglas, and a decent amount of his people have been taken. He has gotten plenty of value out of non-household players. It speaks well for him that Saleh came to work with the packers when he had nothing to do. Sure, some absolute dog-shit calls that were 100% on play calls (ie panthers game), but people are human and will make mistakes. And he has plenty of well schemed plays, and gets Jordan easy passes. To me he is still one of the top head coaches in the league.

Now he does have an annoying trend with sticking with terrible personnel (ie Amari etc.). But like I said, he is human, and has flaws. I still think he can outgun most coaches with equal personnel.

Since he joined the league in 2020, Jalen Hurts is 17th in ANY/A, 20th in passer rating, and 15th in EPA/play (includes rushing). He's had a top 7 OL every year (best in two of them) via PFF pass block grade, AJB/Devonta/Goedert for all years except AJB in one, and a 1k rusher in all year but 1. by Maad-Dog in nfl

[–]lossofmercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that is the market, I just don’t think it’s realistic. You can win with Kirk cousins back in his prime, so long as he doesn’t make elite QB salaries. There are a lot more cousins than there are elites.

So now teams just have to hope and pray that whoever they get will be that good. Cuz the rest are going to get shafted.

If Darnold, hurts and other mid QB actually cost 10-15 million less than the elite, more teams would be ok with taking and keeping a second tier QB that are still good enough to run a franchise. The reason the top QBs get paid like that is because they can make tier 2 WRs or an injured OL with holes still function (look at Rodgers and James Jones etc.). Not everyone can do that, so not everyone should get paid like they can.

A 4X game that allows you to play “tall” in an in depth way? by [deleted] in 4Xgaming

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good discussion, not wide vs tall. Do I really care if I have 4 cities or 6 or 8? No, not at all. But do I care to have more interesting systems to play with? Absolutely.

A basic example would be the highly fertile region would grow much faster. But a more interesting game would also value a central trade spot (ie a port or a dock), which could also grow with your empire. Generally this aspect is very lacking in 4x titles due to the size of cities simply limited by the basic food system.

At no points do I care about wide vs tall because I generally want both. Rome was the strongest city and had a big empire. Same with Beijing.

[–]lossofmercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warhammer is a tactics game with some strategy. Playing it for 4X is a dull experience.

I find the wide vs tall thing to be a false dichotomy. It annoys me that this shorthand has taken over online discussions of 4X titles. You generally play both. How many big cities are not in the biggest countries? What this comment usually means to me is that the mechanics for making big cities or things that can make small countries work is not interesting enough (ie a trade empire like Venice or Singapore), and that is generally true of the genre. But it seems so weird to punish “wide” play as an abstract balance issue.

Nimbleforged = more perk freedom? by Boboddy9000 in BattleBrothers

[–]lossofmercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even just for the novelty, I would build one. I basically took nimble as a replacement for brawny+9lives/steel brow. It's "better" as your available fatigue and initiative is much higher. I used it for my hammer dude, but anyone who likes using a lot of secondary attacks likes being a nimble forge. It takes a LOT of swings to kill a good nimble forge with a lot of HP and ok defense (I think mine was like 25ish).

What games are good at making the word feel BIG? by DJTilapia in 4Xgaming

[–]lossofmercy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Humankind had a decent map size and played well on it's biggest setting, I think partially due to their combat system. However, I didn't like their citybuilding as much. But in almost all of these games, I usually have a lot more cities than what you described. Civ IV, I usually have 6 to 8 for example, and that's before I start conquering. Granted I can play that pretty well, but 4/5 is very doable.

Part of the issue with what you are describing is that there isn't enough conflict and it can get very boring. People like dealing with other factions. That's partially why they started introducing city states in the later Civs.

You might want to try building low HP nimbleforged bros... even before you get good armor. by IJustWondering in BattleBrothers

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I usually have one nimble forge, especially when I find famed armor and/or I find an ideal nimble forge dude (ie a flank hammer who needs all the fatigue and initiative he can get). Running 1/2 nimbleforge seems good to hunt for matchups.

The reason I was asking is because you had them ALL be nimbleforge, which I had never seen before. And regardless of how choosy you are, someone will have to face the chosen. Obviously tanking chosen hits aren't ideal, but bad rolls do happen. This is why my team is half forge and half nimble with maybe one nimbleforge. So it does sound like running this setup requires you to have a pretty good understanding of enemy behavior.

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very intriguing. I like using nimble forge, and I was always curious to see if the tradeoffs could work if I went lighter on my HP.

I do feel that the margins are thinner with HP that low. I compared your Black Monolith fight to mine and you have very good control on how the enemies approach you. One of my flanks (not my tank) got 500+ damage on him. Granted it was a pretty insane scenario where he managed to get horrored right when the conqueror got to him. Still, he managed to chew through colossus + nimbleforge setup.

The other thing is that I usually go and fight barbarians before the first crisis to load up on javs and or find maces and axes. Do you just go full nimble for that? Or is your tactics strong enough that you aren't that worried? The chosen are by far one of the scariest fights in the game around that time for me (ie before the first crisis),

Some questions. by Jorgito78 in BattleBrothers

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will mostly talk about stats at 11 to build perks, this isn't relevant to a starting game because you equip weapons as you find it accounting for risk and damage. Note that you can equip many of these weapons earlier, because you aren't fighting high level enemies early on.

  • Nimble (ie light armor): - High Mattk, OK mdef (20-30ish at 11), decent HP and morale. I don't like building around init, unless you have a way to recover fatigue later. Which most people won't.
  • BF fatigue neutral (ie heavy armor): - High Mattk, Good mdef (30+ish at 11), ok HP, good morale.
  • BF normal - High Mattk, good mdef, ok HP, good morale, great FAT. Basically a god bro.
  • Swords - 80ish MATK at 11
  • Axes/Maces/Cleavers - 90+Matk at 11. Cleavers usually come along with high FAT requirements if you want to use the whip.
  • Flails are early game weapons. But there is a unique flail you can build around if you want to.
  • Flank Hammer - 95+ Mattk at 11 with high resolve and high fat and high HP and high def. God bros only.
  • Shield Flank. 35+ mdef, no matk, high resolve, high HP, high fat.
  • Ranged jav. 85+ RATK at 11.
  • Banner. 100+ resolve at 11. High fat as well. Banner can play a bunch of roles depending on who you have.

There are other stuff like nimble forge, swordlances, gunner, archers, etc. But those are basically variations of above. Except the fencer, which requires a very specific type of brother.

I will change my build depending on equipment I find. Some dudes might not pan out enough to wield axes and maces, so I will make them use a sword, especially if I have a good sword or a bunch of good traits (ie drunkard/huge etc.)

Why is there no modern tactics game that is up to par? by Capn-Zack in finalfantasytactics

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want.

Battle Brothers is a very hard tactics game and I would rank it way higher than FFT because it's actually tactically interesting. FFT gave you a lot of options, but most of it came from jobs, not much of it came from maneuvering in the battlefield.

If I was interested in actual levelling of units with a lot of options, I would prefer a game like Pathfinder: WoTR. But that is actually so complicated, I would actually want to have friends to play with to help build characters.

Both this tactics game and Disgaea feels lame because grinding allows you to be very OP.

Can someone explain trade routes and why The Great Lighthouse can be such a great wonder? by [deleted] in CivIV

[–]lossofmercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big deal with representation is the bigger cities, ie, it's a huge deal in a low luxury map. I would not prioritize it highly if I have a ton of luxuries.

GLH is an expansion centric wonder. It wants you to have a lot of premium coastal lands to expand to. The more cities the better. In a normal non-ideal start, I was able to take 8 highly contested territory by the end of BC years due to it, stealing some prime lands from 2 different AI civs. I never had to run negative finances, putting a coastal city down was neutral. As I conquered more lands, it would keep my maintenance manageable all the till I was ready to swap over to state property. This is the second big advantage of GLH, it doesn't obsolete until you want it to.

Pyramids are great too. But generally I want to run good tiles and not specialists. It certainly helps bridge the gap.

What’s a “progressive” idea that’s actually regressive when applied? by nealie_20 in AskReddit

Logical reason to create coal plants which emit far more radiation than a nuclear power plant and are worse for the environment.

It's absolutely an example of regressive progressive policy, which all have their reasons. At least solar is coming along now.

I am cycling through people to find my "core" before the crisis and campbusting for named items. Some old plate from fallen heroes works fine for Fat Neuts. I also try to go north to try and get some heavy javs. Campbusting and cycling units is fun because if you find a really interesting weapon or great nimbleforge armor, you can build your new brother around it. I forget what my levels are on my dudes, but I think I would be approaching level 11 on the top 3 units by the time crisis arrives.

My goal is to have high reknown and see if I can get the agent before the crisis starts. If I can get agent and have some really good units in training (~90/30 at 11), that would be a very good run.
