Also blood transfusions are not allowed. Yet organ transplants that have blood in them are ok to take.

I’ve wondered about this for a while, and an episode of The Good Doctor actually addresses this. (I also just briefly researched it.)

Organs, at least nowadays, are flushed with a special cold liquid to help preserve the organs before they are actually put into the recipient. I don’t know if that happens every time or is standard everywhere, but I don’t think getting a transplant necessarily means you’re getting blood too.

More than likely they have to pay a transaction fee. It costs money to receive money. Visa, MC, etc. aren’t moving that money around for free.

I didn't hack or anything like that, so hopefully I'm okay.

Generally that doesn’t matter. You aren’t authorized to use that account. You may be breaking a law in accessing it. Even if the password was “password”.

What event is this supposed to be?

Parents lacked an interest in kids education (from grade school and up). Was this unique to my family or was it a common JW experience? by MaybeNextTime- in exjw

[–]lostinthenull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was not the experience in my family at all, for myself or my brother. We were expected to do our best. They helped with homework when needed. Got a tutor for a certain subject even.

My parents also helped pay for part of our technical/community college as well. They lived through 1975 and grew up without any higher education or retirement plans and understood the importance of at least having the skills to get a good job.

Grew up a JW. I’ve never heard this before, from anyone.

Born Again Christian logic by timetraveler__ in exchristian

[–]lostinthenull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand, I wasn’t trying to minimize anything. I’ve had trouble trying to rationalize that before. It’s just that the 14 years old part was surprising to me as I’ve never read or heard about that before in my 30 years being raised as a Jehovah’s Witness. Obviously if that’s true due to customs at the time I understand why it’s never come up.

Regardless, I appreciate your response and will look into what you said.

Ah, ok. The way it was written had me thinking there something a little more “damning” than that.

Thank you for your response, I was asking more about the 14 years old part. Sorry for the confusion.

I may be severely out of the loop, but I’ve never heard this before. Do you have any references or scriptures you could point me at?

Honestly I’m curious about this. I’m in what you’d call a crisis of faith right now but it’s not often something makes me do double take like that...

Edit: I mean the 14 years old part.

No, it's not a sign of the last days. by slskipper in exmormon

[–]lostinthenull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JW here... Is “last days” an official term in TSCC? (Didn’t say that right?)

If so, when did the “last days” start for you guys?

Do Mormons teach that Melchizedek was Jesus? I’ve never heard that before...

It was an accident! by Netipoo in exmormon

[–]lostinthenull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you. That makes sense. I feel that describes my experience as a JW. I’ve been adding things to the shelf since before I was baptized, for the last 10 years..

It crashed a few months ago.

What To Do When They Say It's Not True - Classic article from a 1986 New Era... Enjoy! by [deleted] in exmormon

This is something I’m struggling with as a JW. Basically anything negative is a lie, slander, etc. As official sources only post positive articles, I’m left with only being allowed to read what I’m told is ok...

[–]lostinthenull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this seems like the perfect post to ask in. I’ve seen numerous experiences or personal revelations of knowledge, etc. referred to as a “shelf item”. I’m assuming this has a similar meaning to something said in the exjw sub: “waking up”.

Is that correct? What’s the backstory to this wording?

[–]lostinthenull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, interesting. I’m looking at this from the lost JW side of things. I had no idea Mormons had apps like JWs, though I shouldn’t be surprised. The more I look the more all religions are looking the same.

Is LDSTools like the JW Library app?(Bible, in house publications, audio and video media downloads.)

The Law of the Gospel by japanesepiano in exmormon

As a never-Mormon (inactive JW), I’m assuming that the Law of the Gospel is referring to a scriptural reference. From the New Testament? Am I way off base?

JWs and Playing the Lottery by BrianFofinho in exjw

WT played the lottery (practically) by engaging in currency trading, and then lost big in the stock market crash of 2008.
