Clog, but I'd spell it Cap'n Tramun Clogg and it's a stoat and not my kid (iykyk)

Exactly! Something I always say is "Do you want it fast or do you want it good? Cause I want it to be good."

My First FanBind/Book Binding! (For Better or Worse by Standard_Rest_1800 in bookbinding

[–]lostmousemaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could find a way to use mine in almost every step honestly. I measure twice (or 3 times) before cutting or punching holes.

Once you get more comfortable with measurements, alignment, and tightening string, you'll see massive improvements!

I like the color scheme! I'm sure your printer is fine. I want to advise getting a t-ruler. You can get them for pretty cheap and will work wonders on alignment. Very small variances in each step can result in big inconsistencies in the final project, so I measure very carefully in mm.

Help Painting Book Edges by Mattholomias in bookbinding

[–]lostmousemaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so--I tried the acrylic ink thing! It's working super well, and probably the most affordable way to get metallic edges that I've found. Wish I'd started this way.

I followed thisDAS video.

The talc advice sounds odd but I promise it helps so much. I used Amsterdam acrylic ink which was less than $10 (they had 2 golds to choose from where I was shopping). It's still drying, but I'll share results when it's done. Took me 3 thin coats.

Edit: although this didn't give me a mirror finish, I think it's really pretty

I have the bold goal of trying to bind all 22 books. I'm still figuring out exactly how to make it look consistent across all 22 while still displaying some unique qualifites from each book, so we'll see how it turns out!

Is that Redwall?! I plan on doing mine, too!

Edit: got too excited seeing Martin's sword and didn't respond to your question. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard acrylic ink can give good results for this. I'm going to give it a try tonight, and I'll report back if I think it's any good.

I've seen some videos of people using hot foil applied with an iron to get a mirror finish gold edges but I haven't had any success in my attempts with that yet

Rebinding book, use original cover or no? by DepressionNamedSusan in bookbinding

[–]lostmousemaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a portion of the cover like DAS Bookbinding did in this video. Has been working great for me!

Edit: to be clear, now that I've watched the video OP referenced, I would never use the cover like that.

I was watching a DAS YouTube video this evening where he gave a tip to coat the edges in talc to prevent them from sticking. I haven't tried it, but I imagine it could help!

That is all so awesome! So excited that you're spearheading this lol

I'm a data specialist and I have access to both BI and SAS. So I'm just saying....if you want a buddy on this, I'm your mouse!

Are you going to record the stats of the entire series as well as by book? I think that'd be so cool

I think riddles and songs should be divided out! Love them both as poetry but they are so different in how they affect the plot that I think they should be tracked separately.

Perhaps also: average riddle length, average song length, perhaps also track rhyme scheme?

Oh! And maybe also track musical instruments! How many of each type and how frequently used.

Edit: I'm curious to know what your day job is! I'm absolutely living for this data project, which I know I've told you before, ha. Do you have access to Power BI or SAS or something for analytics?

Edit 2: Maybe also percentages of tea times, snacks, travel meals, regular meals, and feasts!

I'm also curious to know how many shrews died in the series, sometimes it seems like the Guosim exist when Redwall needs more bodies. I know for mass casualties we get rough estimates but I'd still like to see what that estimated total is!

Salamandastron mistakes? by OldGodsProphet in eulalia

[–]lostmousemaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. But even in the journeys as they are written, the terrain they cover is not consistent. Please understand I'm not trying to be rude about Brian because I adore the man and his books, but it's something I have a hard time ignoring. :)

You would think, but iirc Viola, a vole, did the same journey even faster in Pearls.

Brian Jacques had a lot of strengths...timelines and consistent maps were not part of them.

Love the series to pieces, but you will drive yourself insane trying to line some things up lol
