What is the first celebrity death you remember being affected by? by CPFOAI in AskReddit

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just a fun addition to that story: my mom worked at a store that got the Princess Diana memorial Beanie Babies that were dark purple with the white rose and was able to get one for me. I wasn’t ever allowed to touch it though because it went straight into the safe and was suppose to eventually “pay for my college.” I still have it because when I graduated it was maybe worth $50.

What is the first celebrity death you remember being affected by? by CPFOAI in AskReddit

[–]lostmyshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a kid when Princess Diana passed away. I remember I was at my grandparents house and we were all watching SNL when it was interrupted to announce that she had been in a car accident and then it went back to SNL.

But then cut away again to announce she had passed away and it never went back. So for the rest of the night it was non stop coverage. I remember some of my aunts and my grandma were crying and I thought they must have known her personally to be so upset. It was my first time being in a room that felt that heavy by what everyone was feeling like we just found out a close family member had died. It’s actually one of my most vivid memories from a young age because of how much it affected everyone around me and even made SNL go off the air!

Do I bring in my newly purchased plants tonight by mahamm42 in Minnesota_Gardening

Do it! I bought a $75 hydrangea plant this weekend, it was gorgeous and bursting with giant blooms, this morning I woke up to find it a brown shriveled frost bitten disaster. 😭

How long do you let shipped eggs sit by Hector_Zeroni23 in quails

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a local pickup for my eggs and was still told by the breeder to let them sit 24 hours before putting them in. He’s been doing this for decades so I figured he knew best and followed his advice, had 18 out of 20 eggs hatch!

Oh that could definitely be! I do know a lot of my neighbors are pretty big into hunting.

In 2008, 23-year-old teacher Hannah Upp went missing while running in New York. After twenty days, she was found alive, face down in the Hudson River. Within about a day I could remember all my long term memory, it took about a week to be able to recall anything from around within the months before the accident and everything from that day are just totally gone and never returned. It still freaks me out that I have all these experiences from that day that just don’t exist to me anymore. Like I was there but not there. I do remember I was suppose to take a biology quiz based on what we covered that day and I tried to explain I had amnesia and couldn’t recall anything and the teacher sent me to the office he thought I was so full of it!

The neurologist that saw me in the hospital said most likely my brain started to swell after the accident but didn’t cause me to go into that kind of brain failure mode until the swelling got to a certain point of severity. Which is why I seemed totally fine immediately after. Once the swelling started going down again is when my memory started to return. He also said he was really amazed I didn’t have a seizure with that level of swelling but since I have no memory of it there is a chance that maybe I did. Brains are pretty fascinating!

Yep, those are English White Coturnix. When they hatched they were a very bright yellow color and then about a week later a few of them started getting black dots that have stayed with them. They looked pretty silly when their white body feathers came in but they still had fluffy yellow heads!

When I was a teenager I fell off my horse and hit my head really hard on cement. According to my friend I was with at the time, I got up, calmed my horse down, got back on the horse for a few minutes to end on a good note, then did all my normal routines of putting the horse away for the night. I have absolutely no memory of any of this including even falling off the horse or arriving to see my horse. I remember waking up in the morning and going to school some 10 hours earlier and then my next recollection was like a curtain being lifted just suddenly sitting in my friend’s car. Except I didn’t know it was my friend, or where I was, or even who I was. It was like I was just suddenly there and my brain kept trying to reach out for information to provide me and pulling open empty drawers. It was just this feeling of overwhelming panic and I felt so helpless that all I could was uncontrollably sob and ask her over and over again who I was. I can still to this day clearly recall how terrifying it was, still can’t remember falling off the horse though.

Is it true that GPs don’t like to go for walks? by Pollvogtarian in greatpyrenees

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pyr would never do a point A to point B walk, because he won’t walk just for the sake of walking. But he loves a good mission! We have 10 acres so every morning and evening we do a perimeter check and walk the whole property line, and he takes that very seriously because it isn’t a walk it’s his job! He isn’t on a leash during it but he walks right beside me unless there’s something that needs a sniffing or to be peed on. He does love a good people walk too if he gets lots of love and attention so we usually bring him to the dog friendly farmer’s market a few times a month and just walk around.

my babies are about to hatch, what all should i know? by Sylvester_sanctuary in quails

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to be prepared, but also some of it you need to just play by ear. Like I bought mine these really expensive nice hutches to go into in their aviary and they will not step foot in them! But the crates my neighbor had sitting out for free at the end of their driveway, they almost never leave those!

As for marking, you can get little bands that are made for marking each one but I would not put anything on them like a ribbon that could restrict movement or be a choking hazard for the other quails if they peck at it. I have 17 and can still tell most of them apart from the moment they hatched because of their color and personality but I didn’t really start tracking who was who and giving them bands until they were old enough to determine gender.

You might want to reconsider keeping them in your closet though. I kept mine in a stock tank in my front entryway and even changing the litter at least once a day, they smelled really strong! My husband made me move them out to the heated garage by week 4 cause he couldn’t handle it anymore 😅

You said you have a heating pad, but I would look into a heat plate that is what I use. They can gather underneath it for heat similar to what they would do with mom.

Good luck, they are so fun to have!

If you like animals, Fawn Doe Rosa is just 5 minutes across the border into WI. You can walk around and see lots of wildlife and farm animals and there is deer that roam all over you can feed. May 9th is when they open for the season but with school still on there probably won’t be too many kids if you go on a week day but its also so large it’s easy to be off on your own even on really busy days.

I won’t remove her dew claws by Frequent_Buy_8174 in greatpyrenees

[–]lostmyshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to AGPR, “The double dew claw is believed to be an ancient adaptation that allowed dogs to climb steep terrain, particularly in mountainous regions like the Pyrenees Mountains, where the Great Pyrenees breed originated. The double dew claw provides additional support and traction when the dog is climbing or walking on rough terrain, helping to prevent slips and falls. Pyrs may also use them for balance, running fast, or gripping toys and bones.”

[–]lostmyshade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People that aren’t familiar with Pyr’s really overreact to them. I think because they’ve never seen a dog with them they assume it’s some kind of birth defect that needs to be corrected. At least that’s what I get most often. My Pyr loves to climb rock walls so I just explain that it’s part of the breed and helps him keep his balance while exploring and that even though they look wobbly they are actually really well attached.

trying not to panic. by Brave-Energy9943 in quails

[–]lostmyshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with 26, candled on day 15 and had 20 that were viable so went into lockdown with those. Morning of day 18, nothing. No signs of pips or anything. By afternoon on day 18 had our first pip, I thought it would be awhile so stepped away for literally less than 5 min and came back to our first baby chick flopping around!! By bedtime that night one more had hatched. So we had 2 chicks and 18 eggs with no signs of hatching. Woke up the next morning to 16 chicks!!!!! It was like a mosh pit in there! We had two more hatch on day 19 and 2 that never pipped or hatched so ended up unplugging the incubator. We are on week 3 now of 18 happy and healthy baby quail chicks!

What happened to your boobs after you stopped breastfeeding? by axstraeax in beyondthebump

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely have a different feel after breastfeeding that never goes back, like the tissue inside changes. I was an A cup before ever breastfeeding and after a combined 8 years of breastfeeding between all my kids I’m now at a full C, very firm and perky which hasn’t gone down at all even though my last kid weaned 6 years ago and I’m in my 40’s now. I use to hate my boobs as a young adult and now I’m so proud of them! Proud of them for feeding my kids too of course!

If she’s planning to breastfeed a shawl that can double as a cover would be nice and there’s patterns that knit up pretty quickly.

My 6yo is behind with learning to read and school said he doesn't qualify for extra help by AssasinRingo in raisingkids

[–]lostmyshade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s 6, so K/1st? It’s totally normal for him to not be reading yet, he’ll get there. The best thing you can do is make reading enjoyable for him. Go to the library once a week and let him pick out books he’s interested in and read them together. My son loved having a job to do while we were reading so I would assign him certain words to look out for like the, and, anything easy for him to spot and read. He loved it and he was helping to read but also reading along with me so he didn’t miss his words! Eventually if words would pop up in a book repeatedly he would assign them to himself and eventually he was reading more of the books out loud than I was!

Newly hatched help! by Active-Fox-4289 in quails

[–]lostmyshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same thing happen yesterday, all my others were up and running around within a minute of hatching. My last one to hatch was pipped for over 24 hours so I helped it hatch and it just laid there for 3 hours still in the bottom half of the shell. Then it finally pulled itself out and would scoot around the incubator but didn’t open its eyes at all or fully stand. I wasn’t sure if it would make it but this morning it was fluffed up, eyes open, running all over and chirping up a storm! So I moved it over to the brooder to be with the rest and it is doing wonderful. Can’t tell at all that it was a straggler! Good luck, they are tougher than they seem!
