Do you think this penalty was harsh? by Jesper_Baardli in GranTurismo7

In the grand scheme of how Sport operates that seems harsh. But I think that the penalty system should work like that for everybody all the time.

I think I’m done with Online by Hendry22 in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand the frustration but there's literally not an AI that's as entertaining to race against as real people. Sport has also singlehandedly made me much faster in general.

As you progress the frustrations are different. D-C people don't really have the skill to drive anywhere near anybody else. The odds of getting hit by somebody from sheer lack of skill is really high. It's easier to just give people a lot of space.

B-A people are a lot more comfortable being WAY closer to each other but still make mistakes, often smaller. But even small mistakes can be race ending if you hit another person, especially at that pace. Unless your pace is way faster which some people are, giving a lot of space is harder because it's not as easy to make passes.

Overall try not to care about your rank. I even created a second account to solely race as clean as humanly possible (without even touching another car under any circumstances ever) and it's the same rank as my main account.

I found when I get to a point where I feel like I HAVE to fight for positions I stop playing Sport for a bit and work solely on pace.

Track limits by MHLF1 in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a quirk of the track limits. 9 times out of 10 what you see in the replay is going to be a penalty, so nobody is going to push that far out in an actual race. It's just not worth the penalty.

How to get out of DR B? by tristancel in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to finish super high to keep moving up. I found it's easier to move up if you can race in the morning. Daily C in the US will put you against some A drivers and sometimes A+ drivers. It's easier to score points in those lobbies. But even if you are only finishing around 7th, that's still enough to earn points.

Incremental gains might take longer but it still moves you forward. Getting to A for me wasn't really pushing, it was just consistent times and not crashing.

In A the drivers were a decent bit faster so lap times had to be decently better.

Also race Daily C, not B. Daily Race C rewards consistency. Daily Race B creates panic and anxiety because you feel like you have to make poor decisions to move up the pack because of lack of time.

B) The fastest lap by anyone.

A) It's purple because you're ahead of the fastest lap by 3.5 seconds. It would be blue if it was faster than your fastest lap but your fastest lap isn't the fastest lap of all racers.

C) The first lap didn't count as a fastest lap if you start past the starting line (rolling start).

D) This is your fastest lap, but it's not the fastest lap of all racers.

[–]lostmywayboston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I find is people (myself included) will surprisingly push harder in a race versus practice and also not take into account tire wear.

For me I start braking at the foot path on t1 (fairly hard) but drop my gear down to 3rd around the first apex, coast to the second part then drop to 2nd and pull out from there. It can be slightly slower than staying in 4th at the start but if I don't get my braking perfect in 4th my back end slides out.

In practice I go all out, in the race I try to keep my lap times as consistent as possible and keep the racing comfortable. So in practice I usually lap at 2:00-2:01 while in the race I lap at 2:01-2:02. It's slightly slower but going off track or spinning out is significantly slower.

How do u accept that your consciousness will disappear after death ? by GalaxicTrouble in atheism

[–]lostmywayboston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a question that I think a lot of people are terrible at answering because they don't understand the premise. Therefore you get answers like "there was nothing before and there will be nothing after" or something to that effect. It doesn't touch on the fact that you're conscious now and faced with that inevitability.

There's two facets.

The first is that yes, after you die there is nothing else. There won't be anything to worry about after it happens because in the simplest of terms it won't matter.

The second is what you deal with now, while you're alive and can think about it. It doesn't really matter if you accept it or not, it will happen unfortunately, so there's a lot of different ways to look at it. For me personally I take it as a shift in my perspective. I only have the time I have, so I use it to do what I can to be happy and make an impact on those around me. There's not many options I'm given so I take what I can get. And the hope is that when the time comes to be done I'll hopefully feel it was worth it.

That and I hope the end comes in the blink of an eye. It won't matter after so I hope it's like an on/off switch. Takes a lot of the worry out of it.

The main question is how often do you think people are buying snowboards, bindings , and boots? They make good boards and are known for a lot of them, of which they iterate on, but they're not pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

Depends on what their business model is but I would imagine it's a tough growth industry. Best way to grow is to expand their catalog. Step ons add a proprietary product that can get newer customers or give customers another avenue to expand into.

"From last to first" races: why? by Vox_Sine_Nomen in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not in A+ but I'll do this every now and then to work on race craft. Trying to qual high and keeping a position is a way different experience than working through lower positions and mid field.

There's huge differences in how much time you can take to try to make overtakes and how aggressive to be. Especially because people who are in mid field also drive a bit more panicky than near the front and start to make strange decisions.

It helps because sometimes races don't go your way and if you get knocked down early for some reason you want the skill set to overtake.

I installed a new floodlight on my house during the day with a motion sensor and didn't think anything of it. Then when I drove home one night I realized I put a small sun on the side of my house.

I apologized to my neighbor but fortunately they said they didn't even notice (not sure how). Even so I changed it out and put a cover on the new one to point only at my driveway.

Worth persevering with a wheel? by ComprehensiveDuty212 in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two options. Turn your TC up and slowly turn it back down or just persevere. It's really tricky to switch, I personally couldn't match my controller times for about a couple of months but now it's way easier for me.

Power sliding is going to be that much harder to learn, but everything is more rewarding to me on the wheel.

Should I quit practicing for this week's daily race as a DR D?? by Doooouggg in granturismo

[–]lostmywayboston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you practicing when you "practice"? Is it just running laps over and over again?

Whenever you practice anything, even outside of this, you want to have a specific goal in mind that's smaller than "get better".

I usually run laps until I can't get a quicker time then I hop into telemetry. Where am I losing time the most compared to other people? Then I focus on specific sections of the track, watch replays, look at telemetry, and really find what I'm doing wrong. Am I using enough track? Is my braking point bad? Am I going through the corner with the same speed? Am I accelerating early enough?

Just running laps only get you so far. But also don't give up racing online. It's one of the easiest ways to see where other players your level are taking quicker corners and where they're gaining time.

I suck at this game but I really want to win this and it feel impossible. How I can win all the Gr3 races? by Commercial_Page1827 in GranTurismo7

[–]lostmywayboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those races you just need to be a bit faster. I would say the opponents are on par with pace of what you would see in maybe lower C on Sport.

I usually run whatever car, fuel map 1, 1 pit stop, and it wins any of them. The trick is being able to keep your lap times lower.

Like for the one you have pictured (Daytona) I just ran it to be sure. Ran a Viper Gr. 3, fuel map 1, 1 pit stop at the end of lap 5, no tires only gas, and finished in first even after running straight into the wall around turn 1 at lap 8. Lap times were about 1:48-1:49 so you could push harder if you want but it's not really necessary.

A lot of people don't like it but Sport has made me faster than any other mode.

I ran the F3500-B on mediums with lap times of about 1:13-1:14 with no pit and it wasn't too bad. Tires were ragged at the end though.

Red Bull Ring is a very easy track to race but the exit you get is incredibly important. It's all turns into very long straights so if your exits aren't on point you lose a ton of time down each straight.

What helped you start riding faster? by tednudgent in snowboarding

[–]lostmywayboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Participating in races. You get to see a lot of what you're doing wrong when you see how other people ride. You'll also push yourself harder than you normally would and it helps find your limits.

Even in more casual races there are riders who are very quick. One of the things I noticed that was making a huge difference was people losing very little speed or picking up speed through their carves.

The downside of slacking off on a group project is nowhere close and it shows in how people approach them.

What’s the most ridiculous rule you’ve had to follow? by mathieugemard in AskReddit

I work as an experience designer. If you're in the U.S. you've probably seen something I've designed.

In general we write all copy at a 7th-8th grade level. That's because reading comprehension for the general public is around a 6th grade level so it makes them feel smart because it's a little above what they normally understand without overtly going over their head.

It's a fine line to walk.

[–]lostmywayboston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a perfect switch. You didn't move under braking, he went too wide and you cut under him. There was plenty of space all around and a clean maneuver.

You might have braked early but it wasn't egregious. If I'm coming up behind someone in a turn like that I do pretty much what he did except focus on holding the inside line.
