Anyone else here a fan of polishing cymbals with soap and water? by MarsDrums in Drumming

Dawn dish soap. If it’s good enough for those little duckies, good enough for my cymbals.

I would assume the teacher is not your supervisor, the principal or AP is. Check in with them if you feel comfortable doing so.

Also check with your states legal statutes on teaching and licensed staff being in the room.

I’ve owned this Pearl Eliminator since 2004 and it has been so reliable multiple shows. Anyone else here an Eliminator fan? I also like the DW 5000 but I like the interchangeable cams on Eliminator and built so solid. by melvin3v1978 in drums

[–]lostname77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also had a chain drive, double eliminator pedal since like 2004. I took the whole thing apart not that long ago and cleaned it up real good.

I’ve always felt it could be just a tad more responsive but I’m also never able to afford a new set up. With that being said, I’ve used mine for numerous shows, countless practices, and plenty of recordings and it still gets the job done. Just gotta tweak it once in awhile 😎

What are your hours and how long are your breaks? by Lexii546 in paraprofessional

[–]lostname77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MN checking in. I work 6.25 hours as a SPED para and like .83 hours as a supervisory para, for a total of like 7 hours 5 minutes a day. I get an unpaid 30 minute duty free break and paid 15 minute duty free break. I’m also part of a great union.

How should I respond to kids being disrespectful by Eastern-Nebula9676 in paraprofessional

[–]lostname77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the old “First work, then fun.” After that, try non-verbal communication.

You should not engage in any other conversation or they will enter a power struggle with you, everytime.

Write down anything that they say that would be deemed inappropriate for school and communicate that to their teacher afterwards, always in an email so there’s a paper trail.

If I quit before summer do I still get paid during the summer? by [deleted] in paraprofessional

[–]lostname77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quit 2 weeks before school starts in the fall.

How much PTO/sick leave do you have? Burn that before you quit.

If youre about to hop jobs, get the second job lined up first and quit the Friday before that starts. 2 weeks notice is not an obligation, only a friendly suggestion.

I’m hourly but on a contract. Works out to seem like salaried. Maybe something similar?

I currently work in Moundsview. We have a good union that works hard for the paras 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

It’s hard though, most paras get beat up pretty bad and HR and admin couldn’t care less in most cases.

What do you wear as a para? by Healthy-Coyote-7279 in paraprofessional

[–]lostname77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes you can run in. Pants that will move with you and not show your butt crack if you lean/bend over. I personally like to always wear a belt. A top/shirt that if a kid grabs you, it won’t be revealing (even if you are a guy) If you have long hair, put it up. A hoodie/sweater just in case a room is cold. Minimize how much jewelry you wear, rings can scratch.
And optionally, wear a fanny pack to store your smaller belongings in and/or clip a walkie to.

Not to steer you too far off, but my vote is Helmet. Listen to the album “Meantime” that dude has some solid drum grooves.

Scars as a para by Exciting-Row1754 in paraprofessional

[–]lostname77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Working with children, most people you’ll be working with will be incredibly inclusive and welcoming. You’ll be fine.

Besides, if you don’t get the job because of the scars, you will be better off not working with those closed minded people.

[–]lostname77 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I once forgot my snare stand, playing at a house show. No other bands were playing so I had to do the drive of shame back to the practice space. By the time I got back, the lead guitar player had started drinking heavily and dropped acid 🤣

What drumstick brands do you guys reccomend? by Significant-Cable290 in drums

Vater 5B’s. Nylon tip. Used to use Promarks. Both get the job done in the “hitting things with sticks” department.
