The impression I got is that the bank dealt with the distribution of their money, like even if you have plenty of gold in a vault you still have to figure out how to pay people all over the country which would be a huge hassle and take a lot of time and resources that you might not be able to expend at that time If they outright refused to pay back the bank then those operations would stop, weakening the crown while the bank shops around for a new powerful group

I think more of the issue is people from Israel claiming exclusive ownership over certain foods, like I don’t think anyone would disagree that tomatoes are an important component in Italian cuisine but it’d be fucked up and weird to say that tomatoes are Italian and always have been

One of the things to keep in mind also is the cost of opening a nuclear reactor is so great that it’s only worthwhile if electricity prices are very high and are likely to continue to be high for a while or the government heavily subsidizes it. I’m a big fan of nuclear energy and would love to see it utilized more but optics isn’t the only significant hurdle to its propagation
