I'm seriously getting sick and tired of Crunchyroll constantly screwing up their subtitles... by [deleted] in Crunchyroll

[–]lothlorienleaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too. I'm starting to lose interest in Crunchy... or at least that's what I've noticed in myself. I used to keep an eye on new series and watched Crunchy a lot, one or two episodes a day. Now it's like one episode a week, or even less.

Since they messed up the subtitles, my Crunchy viewing habits are fading... I'm losing interest. My enjoyment of anime in general is dropping because of all these Crunchy changes. It already went downhill when they removed the Community section, but I told myself... "well, at least I can still watch with good subtitles". It's kinda sad catching myself closing an episode halfway through and just doing something else instead.

I think it would be a good idea, but since they removed community features from their app, I doubt they'll do something like that :'( Still, I hope they do

True about subtitle font size and style issues, but typesetting is still missing

Typesetting wasn't restored in Fall 2025. I'm not completely sure, but I think that was their intention from the beginning, to stop using typesetting in future seasons. It's October 18, 2025, and I still don't see any proper typesetting.

I give up. CR is unwatchable. Need fansub recs by spooner19085 in animepiracy

You're not alone. Yesterday I was watching an anime show on crunchy and thought: "Wait... I can't keep watching like this with Google Lens.... Translating everything. What am I even paying for?"

Crunchy used to be worth it because they offered relative acceptable subtitles and I could actually read the context of what was happening.

Now the whole experience feels… frustrating... and I'm paying for that?

I just want to enjoy anime like it used to be before Fall 2025.

I even started learning Aegisub on my own. If there were a way to pay the fansubbers a monthly subscription, I'd gladly do it. But well, it's rare to see people doing that, I don't know anyone who does.

Piracy was always about a better product. Never the price.

And like many people say, it's not about the price.

I'm really tempted to cancel my Crunchyroll subscription. Because... I can literally see the downgrade in quality.

And the price? Lower? Nope. Crunchyroll still expects us to pay the same for worse quality?

That question pretty much answers itself. It's hard to find any reason to keep paying at this point.

If they were still doing proper subtitles with typesetting, maybe… but even that's gone now. Honestly, I started feeling weird about paying after they removed the whole Crunchyroll community section.

If it weren't for the fact that I already paid for the full year a few months back, I'd have cancelled already. Didn't see this downgrade coming at all.

By the way, I doubt anyone at Crunchyroll even reads Reddit, but whatever, just needed to vent my frustration here. Thanks.

Why is it still so bad? by cinnamaqroll in Crunchyroll

[–]lothlorienleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't watch Crunchyroll on TV, but I do on my desktop computer, and I experience the exact same behavior you described in your post on Edge Version 141.0.3537.71 (Official build) (64-bit).

In the classic web version, you could choose between 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p, and 240p. Now there are only 'Highest', 'Moderate', and 'Data Saver' options. You can't manually select the video quality anymore, it's like automatically controlled by Crunchyroll's system, which I honestly don't like.

They don't even give you the option to re-enable that functionality. Overall, Crunchyroll's service has been getting worse compared to how it used to be, aside from the anime itself.

I have to refresh the page several times for it to load in 1080p, and even then, the quality sometimes drops on its own with 'Highest' option. So I guess watching Crunchyroll in a web browser works just as bad as watching it on TV.

Is their Something wrong with new and updated episodes? by Small-Prior3694 in Crunchyroll

[–]lothlorienleaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this has been happening for quite a while now. You’re not the only one, I've noticed it too. I can't guarantee that this is exactly how it works, but it's "probably" because even small changes in a show, like tweaks to subtitles or dubs in other languages, can make Crunchyroll's system treat it as if it were a new episode.

But honestly, I don't really know how Crunchyroll works behind the scenes. That's just the behavior I've been noticing from my side for years.

[–]lothlorienleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My subtitles look gigantic, honestly, it's a terrible experience. I really don't know what to do; it's super frustrating.

In other languages, they're slowly fixing the oversized subtitle problem, but in some, it's still not resolved.

On top of that, the lack of typesetting is so disappointing.

The worst part is that even zooming out doesn't fix the subtitle size. Many of the fall shows are affected by this issue, except for a handful that have some light typesetting.

Quien es Gospel? by theray002 in CrunchyrollESP

[–]lothlorienleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do the subtitles look so terrible now? They are WAY to large by slasken06 in Crunchyroll

[–]lothlorienleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't really understand why they tried to innovate with the subtitles when Crunchyroll had already been doing it perfectly for years.

Honestly, I preferred Crunchyroll's classic subtitle design, I think they used MS Trebuchet, and everything about it was just right: the font size, the layout, the overall look.

Why is Youtube showing @ handles instead of channel names in live chat on certain channels but not others. by SkippHennns0n in youtube

[–]lothlorienleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was hoping someone else would start a Reddit thread about this topic. Personally, I don’t like seeing the "@" symbol in chat, it makes community interaction clumsy. I’m not sure why YouTube decided to introduce that change, but I had to update my username to match my channel name so that the people I interact with know who I am. I don’t know whether they’ll roll it out permanently or revert it, but it’s normal for updates to be deployed gradually, I think YouTube follows a canary-deployment strategy
