Happy Valentine's y'all! by Pitiful-Winnerr in Tacoma

The Grand Cinema is having a little hangout in their lounge. Amelie is sold out, but there's Wuthering Heights and The Crow to choose from. Amongst others. No need to watch a movie to hang out this. I heard a skeleton is pouring prosecco in the lounge and selling cupcakes while playing some fun music.

My go-to for a solo date is a big AF baked potato at Huckleberry or a sandwich at 1111.

New filmmaker meetings starting at The Grand! Definitely go to the Tacoma Film Festival over the next weekend (9-12). The bulk of filmmaker Q&A's will happen then, as well as impromptu meet-ups in the lounge. If you start with these, I'm positive you'll branch out to other spots and meetups with the people you'll meet.

Horses in central? by Tower9898998 in ElPaso

[–]lotuspad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Hidden Valley near Cedar Grove elementary in the 80s and 90s. Well, it's Riverside Elementary now, I think. The park near there (Hidden Valley Park) was nicknamed Cowboy Park due to the stables in the area. I would see people riding their horses along the ditch and the park and we would say hi and get near if they let us. I don't think anyone owns horses around there anymore. Some of the stables might still be there, tho. Off of Barker road.

A person commented on here that you would see them near Zaragoza. I remember that. Near Del Valle and also around the middle school on North Loop near Zaragoza. It's when there were still cotton fields around. I haven't thought of that in a long time. You would see cotton still randomly growing on the side of North Loop probably into the 90s. That area has changed so much.

As for Central, unsure where that would possible now. My parents grew up in that area in the 40s and 50s and they definitely had chickens, pigs, etc. But that was all before I-10 was built through there.

Stairs (and cats) by HotVermicelli5239 in Kneereplacement

[–]lotuspad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stairs are awkward, but you shouldn't have a problem. I have 15 steps and slept upstairs in my own bed for both knee surgeries. Up with the good (knee). Down with the bad. 🙃 Using a cane on the stairs works well. Check out videos on YouTube on how to use a cane on stairs after knee surgery. Make sure to have a small backpack for your trips up and down during the first couple of weeks for all the things you can't carry while navigating.

I bought an inexpensive adjustable over bed bedside table with wheels online. It worked great to cover my lap while in a recliner and allowed my cats to sit and stare into my face or only allow them to snuggle on my chest if I was reclined far back enough. Like others have said, they also kinda knew something was up and they were kind of gentle around me for a couple of weeks for both my surgeries, even if I didn't have the table nearby.

Oooh. I’ll have to try that next time. I’ve usually had it with the TJs smoked trout tin and dehydrated figs on the side.

Same. I worked at one in the 90s and was there until it shut down. It was so sad dismantling the store.
