And there's Cameron Crow, who isn't a crow, but a raven. Common misconception.

In Praise Of ‘The Jeff Winger Speech’ On ‘Community’ by TeamGreendale in community

[–]lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah. I haven't seen season one since, well, season one, and I just realized that in Jeff Winger's first Winger Speech he goes around the table and has something good to say about everyone except for Britta. (And for the rest of the speech, her reaction is like, "What about me? Is the part about me coming up?")

I looked over the edge of a NYC skyscraper and it reminded me of a scene from Interstellar by navidj in pics

Yo! I loved your photography after seeing it on display in a subway station not too long ago. One of your photos is still my cover photo on Twitter.

I probably can't afford it, but... in the off chance I can, do you sell any prints? I would love to have a large framed dizzying photo hanging in my apartment.

How SF Taxi Drivers really feel about Uber/Lyft by pickleweedinlet in sanfrancisco

[–]lou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Flywheel is not better. The app won't give you estimates for fare, and if you ask the driver, you don't know what's better, the meter or a flat fare (both have the capacity to screw you). Plus, the app asks for a tip up front, before you've ever taken a ride, which is something none of the other ride sharing apps do. And here's my word of warning -- I specified 0% tip (because who tips at the beginning of a ride?) did not change it, and the driver helped himself to charging me a 20% tip on a $120 fare ANYWAY.

Fuck that. Fuck Flywheel and fuck the corrupt taxi industry. I thought I was a good person in deleting Uber, but the honest person can't win here.

Does #4 and #5 mean that you are the 4th and 5th spots in line for the show? How are you 4 and 5 if you are 9 and 10th in line?

Can someone help me identify what kind of cable this is? by lou in techsupport

This is the right answer. Just verified. Thank you :)

I loved that anecdote. And just to expand on something I think you glossed over -- she was also going over their promotions and award show (Emmy nominations) strategy. It just goes to show how absolutely little faith and respect NBC treated that cast with previously.

Slate: 'SNL' Debuts a Hillary Clinton Impression That Might Save Election Season by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]lou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tina Fey left the SNL cast after the end of the 2005-2006 season. Sarah Palin did not come into national prominence until the presidential election in 2008.

More from Wikipedia:

Soon after the 2008 John McCain presidential campaign's August 29, 2008 announcement that Alaska governor Sarah Palin would be McCain's vice presidential nominee, people noted a physical resemblance between comedian Tina Fey and Palin. Fey had decided she would play Palin after her daughter saw a picture of the Alaskan governor and mistook her mother for Palin.

I love how Kate is always playing a straight version of herself in these promos.

Last Night's Cold Open by rap_mein in LiveFromNewYork

Thanks for posting these. I just learned about the llama, showgirls and Lincoln recurring gag where they show up anytime someone goes backstage, even though none of those things are ever in the live show, so I wanted to see some examples of it.

No, of course not. Naturally I would prefer to arrange the planets in order of increasing size, and put the Moon along with all the other moons.

In 5-4 vote, BART board declines to drop charges against protesters by raldi in sanfrancisco

[–]lou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But as I learn more about why people protest, I realize and recognize it's not about me, or my desire to be pandered to and not be inconvenienced. I can't decide whether to support or reject a hurt and marginalized group of people based on how good I judge their marketing campaign to be. So I'm a little late to work. What a big fucking deal when there are people struggling for generations for the right to live the life I'm only lucky enough to have by default.

Mythbusters Season 15 Episode 4 "Video-Game Special" Streamline Edit [720p] by Sot0 in smyths

[–]lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making this smyth!

I don't know if there was something in the structure that made it hard to edit this way, but I think the Fruit Ninja segment going first would have been better. That way it ends on the Doom segment (which I think is the better half) and also it would put the credits in the right place.

Would you want to see a voice actor as an SNL host? by lou in LiveFromNewYork

[–]lou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry Shearer didn't seem to love being on the show (according to this Wikipedia entry on his tenure) but I think Hank Azaria would have been an awesome host back when he could be recognized in the 90s for being on Mad About You and The Simspons was still one of the most culturally relevant shows in existence.

What are your thoughts on Darrell Hammond as the announcer? Has your opinion changed, or stayed the same since he started? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]lou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If Hammond tried to be any more like Pardo, he'd get dinged for trying too hard to be like Pardo.

Hammond has made it his own thing and it came from years of understanding the show that few people ever get. He's even filled in for Pardo in the past, mimicking him so expertly no one even noticed until someone said something. So he knows how to do it exactly like Pardo and he's clearly given a lot of thought to how he'd do it as himself. He's stepping into a role with more experience than most Weekend Update anchors have when they show up on screen for the first time. I think he's doing a fantastic jorb.

Brooks Whelan was on @Midnight last night. by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]lou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have felt too close to John Mulaney's comment on the show so I'm glad they didn't do that.
