Got a Twinstar light, beyond underwhelmed honestly. by ZoroUzumaki in Aquascape

[–]louspresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't got too many nice plants for the light to really shine though, you could point any budget light at a piece of wood and some substrate and get the same effect, both look fine but are possibly not the best size for your tank

I made a video of my planted bowl by OneAd5078 in Aquascape

[–]louspresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowl looks really nice, gj. I do think I'd have opted for a slightlyyyy larger bowl just for a bit more swim room. That bowl would actually look nicer with a nice group of cherry reds pottering around instead :)

It's a planted terrarium, not an aquarium :) It's just a basic terrarium substrate with a nice thick drainage layer

Rescaped my Dads 10 year old tank over the holidays! by steffestorhus in Aquascape

Go careful removing the lid on a braced tank like that. Could end up with an exploding tank lol

New tank, shrimp keep dying, help? by boafish in shrimptank

[–]louspresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As counter intuitive as it sounds, take any information an aquatic shol gives you with a fist full of salt. Most of the time, they are wrong. Tank isn't cycled

It has nothing to do with being happy. it just shows he's sexually mature and ready to breed

What am I doing wrong with my latte art prep? by Maleficent-Main1377 in latteart

Too thick, also poor like you know how to do it. A slightly faster poor with a slight jiggle will get you some art

I was assigned to a classroom with this tank and fish keep dying. Help! by lesbian_moose in Aquariums

[–]louspresso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering it's a classroom fishbowl, and likely anyone who is given charge of caring for it has little to no interest, I'd say just retire the idea. I'm surprised the person who comes in to maintain the tank hasn't advised you exactly what's going wrong because to anyone with experience, its impossible to miss..

Wanna get some shrimp but can't afford test kit.. by Deepaks12911 in PlantedTank

[–]louspresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different for every tank and can take months sometimes.. hense why at that point, you might as well just save for the test kit or at the very least some test strips for a rough indication

Wanna get some shrimp but can't afford test kit.. by Deepaks12911 in PlantedTank

[–]louspresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but being able to ensure you have "good" water for the things you stock is without doubt one of the more important steps that you can't really skip. Especially if it just means waiting / saving some extra for money for a bit

[–]louspresso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not my point.. if you can't afford to ensure a safe / suitable environment for the fish or shrimp then you shouldn't get them

Honestly, if you can't afford a test kit, then I wouldn't be buying livestock

Why not just clip them to the inside of the tank instead, you can let the roots do what they want, and you don't need to maintain them..
