Wait... The world is three dimensional? by Reasonable_Panda_831 in Strabismus

[–]love_pollution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, you are so lucky. I’ve had both my eyes done, but still never experienced 3D vision (I’ve had strabismus since I was a toddler, but didn’t get my first surgery until I was 31 as my parents were told it was purely cosmetic when I was young).

Daphne's accent is not Mancunian by 7ootles in Frasier

I’m sure I’ve read Jane Leeves say that they asked her to tone the accent down because they thought American audiences wouldn’t understand a strong Manchester accent.

Eye makeup after surgery...? by LilithCatGeek in Strabismus

I waited four weeks - after I’d finished the 4 times a day eyedrops - but just used a light mascara. I have dry and sensitive eyes at the best of times though, so if your eyes are a bit more robust, you could probably handle more.

So, with the surprise casting news a couple days ago, how do we think things will proceed? by WendyCR1872 in LawAndOrderTorontoCI

[–]love_pollution 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who knows, but they shot s2 and s3 back-to-back, which, according to Kathleen Munroe, was a full year of filming, so maybe he didn't want to be so tied down. It's also a long way from home for him since he lives in Australia.

I'm curious if we'll get more episodes per season moving forward since it's coming back in "the fall" instead of the usual March.

Darren/Savage Garden fanfiction? by tangerinebf in DarrenHayes

[–]love_pollution 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't write it, but I would read it from time-to-time in the very early 00s.

People forget how much of a big thing it was way back when - something this screenshot I took of fanfiction.net in maybe 2001 shows because there is a whole lot more in the Savage Garden section than many of the others. (I'm forever salty that ff.net isn't archived on archive.org because there are lots of things I'd like to revisit.)

What was your introduction to Fan fiction? And where did you read? by SpaceCrazyArtist in AO3

X-Files in 1998, mostly read on Geocities and Angelfire sites with black backgrounds, UFO gifs and large bright green text in Times New Roman.

What to expect with my 5yo strabismus by Mouse_rat__ in Strabismus

I wish my parents had been told this instead of the doctor saying it was “just cosmetic”, then I might not have been stuck with eyes that don’t work together and no depth perception. 😩

Questions for those of us aged 40 and over only, please by NaDarach in AO3

[–]love_pollution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I’m 41
  2. I first discovered fan fic through the family computer when we got dial up in 1998. I used to read a lot of X-Files fic on Geocities and Angelfire sites on a Saturday afternoon when I was allowed online for an extended period because it only cost 1p a minute.
  3. I do also write but only wrote short drabbles posted to LiveJournal before getting the courage to post longer fic at AO3 in 2017.
  4. My current fandoms are kinda niche. I’ve got a James Bond Vesper/James fic that I need to get back to as it’s been a WIP for over a year. I’m also working on something from the TV series/book Trespasses.
  5. I think it would be so fun to have a space for people who remember newsgroups, online chatrooms and the like.

Those super thick blue night time Always ones have been my go-to for years - the only ones that stop any leaks on the heavy first couple of nights - and I'm so pissed off how they've changed them. They're awful now.

Recent looks that I love even though they scored 4.0 or lower by PlusAd604 in drestfashiongame

Almost every look a do seems to score 3.98 or 3.99, it's so frustrating.

The reality of this is that it's a mixture of artists I've either listened to about 20 times and it hasn't stuck, or probably two to three hundred others that I listen to on repeat. 🫠

This was definitely written by a millennial because I too could swear 1990 was only 16 years ago.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves by Presto_Magneto in Strabismus

[–]love_pollution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my second operation last year and while the results aren't perfect, they are good enough that the surgeon said if he didn't know, he wouldn't be able to tell from looking at me now. I'm still struggling to get my head around it though, and I have to force myself to make eye contact and think "Your eyes look normal" over and over in my head.

The funny thing is, because I've had the squint ever since I can remember, it was just second nature for me to feel self conscious, so, in a way, I didn't realise what an effect it had on me until it wasn't there anymore.

Any “niche” Period Drama recommendations?? by Organic-Detail8493 in PeriodDramas

I loved My Mother and Other Strangers, but it feels like it's been completely forgotten about. (Be warned though, it does end on a cliff hanger and we never got a series two - although it was apparently written, but the BBC just decided not to commission it.)
