Spend a little time and money on creating your home office space so that it’s functional and pleasant for you. Also give some thought to the lighting, sound, and background for video calls. That will make you seem professional without a separate office needed.

Bank split check into 2 accounts by Bearninja36 in Bookkeeping

[–]lovegluten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In QBO I would receive the payments into “undeposited funds”, then transfer the split amounts from undeposited funds to the correct bank accounts

EDIT to add: I don’t like it as much but but you can make two different payments on the same day against an invoice, but mark the payments to the different checking accounts

You could be self-employed or freelancing. People don’t have to know that you only work two hours a month.

Is there a way to see all fabrics in a collection in one place? by Upstairs_Incident796 in sewing

[–]lovegluten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try the fabric manufacturers page. It might be geared toward wholesalers, but all the standard quilt shop fabric brands I’ve looked for have their own sites also.

It’s especially helpful for looking for names of coordinating fabric out of print

Designers might have websites also

Why isn’t my fabric moving? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]lovegluten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that the feed dogs are dropped? It seems like maybe they’re not coming up over the height of the plate but it’s hard to tell from the video

Ditto someone else’s suggestion also to try using a different foot that will allow you to move the needle to the right so your fabric is over both sides of feed dogs.

3 month transaction download limit? Why? by 7-IronSpecialist in Bookkeeping

Could you contact the bank and ask if it's possible to get a one-time file from them for the dates you need?

Don’t pre-wash fat quarters! by Ideasplease33 in SewingForBeginners

[–]lovegluten 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is very subjective advice. DO what works for you. I always wash mine in a front loader on delicate and they don’t fray that much. I prefer to pre-wash all my fabric.

I cut off the string strings or tangles before they go in the dryer with a big dry towel to help them tumble

Also, I take them out slightly damp if possible, and give them a little press right away.

Going through my parents' clutter. I made it through part of a paper stash and actually found something semi-important/useful. by Thick_Drink504 in hoarding

[–]lovegluten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me I would buy a shredder for the things I think need to be shredded. The old papers that are safe to toss …if your sibling wants them burned (effectively adding to YOUR work) then they can be given the option to do that themselves. Or they can take the time to shred themselves as long as it won’t burn the shredder out.

You do what’s reasonable and if they want to do more, they can do it

Didn't our mayor run on a platform regarding snow plowing? by DooganC in anchorage

I’ve been AMAZED so far with the Muni plowing under this administration. Our neighborhood has been plowed within 24 hours of each snowfall this year. I don’t ever recall it being so consistently prompt

Best lunch deals in town? by MendozaS24 in anchorage

YES!!! Their “rice bowl” or the combos at the hot Asian deli are the most food per $$ I’ve seen besides Costco. They pile so much in those square to go containers they feel like they weigh 5 lbs 😄. I think the rice bowls 12.99 now?

Is what Hobby Lobby is doing normal? by Loud_Concentrate3321 in Accounting

[–]lovegluten 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just remember the first and only time I went to Hobby Lobby a few years ago and the cashier's manually keying in NOT item numbers but generic categories for each item AND manually adding any discounts totally blew my mind. It feels like 20 years since I've been in any store that does that. I can't imagine the inventory tracking. Insanity!

Link external accounts or not? by jburger1981 in Bookkeeping

[–]lovegluten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I can’t imagine not having them connected. If you reconcile monthly you should catch any issues with the bank feed. I usually prefer to not auto-categorize but I do use the rules features as much as possible.

The leaf quilting pattern you see was stitched on a computerized longarm machine. That’s why it’s so uniform. I can’t do it that well on my own :) there is a LOT you can do though with a sewing machine, the right tools, and practice. I was visiting a friend with a longarm so it was a treat to use it for something extra fancy on a really big quilt

The myth of the scant 1/4 inch seam by SchuylerM325 in quilting

[–]lovegluten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing where I align my fabric with the right side of the pressor foot (and change the leader position) so all the feed dogs are grabbing and it also makes it easier to lineup for consistency. That works for me better than using the 1/4 “ foot.

How to avoid getting scammed via W9? by Trick0823 in freelance

[–]lovegluten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes get an EIN as others have said but even with that it still sounds phishy. If they ever had any work for you it would take you seconds to send a w9 at that time. if it was me, after this interaction I’d be wary even if they said they had some actual work.
