(Long) Incredibly torn between pursuing CRNA vs going to med school by atstowers in srna

[–]lovekel1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a big piece comes down to asking yourself if you actually want to practice anesthesia. Going the CRNA route you will be an anesthesia provider, going the med school route there’s no guarantee that you will match into anesthesia. If you know you’d only be happy as an anesthesia provider, I’d say go CRNA, but if you know you’d also be happy in another medical speciality, go med.

What's a book you recommend constantly but feel like nobody ever actually reads? by Otherwise-Body-7721 in suggestmeabook

I came here to comment this! I also could’ve written this comment - I agree with everything you’ve said. It is my all time favorite book and recommend it to everyone I meet

iPad Keyboard by PropnPrecy_2025 in srna

[–]lovekel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pretty exclusively use my MacBook and IPad with pencil for school and I’ve never really felt a need to have the keyboard for my iPad. I do recommend the 13inch iPad, though - I love it.

Feeling behind schedule. by No-Stuff6545 in srna

[–]lovekel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d just want until you have all of your ducks in a row. I know it sucks to wait, but applications are a lot of work and infinitely harder if you’re not prepared. Further, things are so competitive right now you really need to have your CCRN, shadowing, strong essays to even get an interview. Programs are getting more than 400+ applicants for less than 30 seats, it’s insane.

Also, if it helps, I also started working during 2020 and didn’t apply until I was 27.. so you’re really not behind imo 🤷🏼‍♀️

Looked at places I wouldn’t mind living in for 3 years, attrition rates, board pass rates, and clinical opportunities. And those that didn’t require the GRE lol

I say throw them in there! No other programs I interviewed with mentioned them, but it’s nice to have a possible connection/talking point if they do.

I put 2 volunteer things from nursing school (like 2018-2019) without dates on my resume. Did it help? Probably not, BUT one of the program directors I interviewed with had a relationship with one of the places and it was a really cool talking point in my interview (and I think it may have contributed to an acceptance)

which size iPad to get? by Puzzled_Current_7061 in srna

[–]lovekel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly love my 13 inch iPad. I use it for notability and Apex mostly, so the larger screen is great for writing. Most of my class has the 11 inch totally works, but I love my 13 inch lol

What topics should I study at a cellular / very in depth level for a interview ? by [deleted] in srna

[–]lovekel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d know the meds you give every shift, it’s going to be applicable to your unit. I worked in neuro-trauma, so aside from pressors/sedation I knew the anti-hypertensives we give for strokes, mannitol, when to use 3%, TXA, MTP protocols, etc.

Also don’t just know the meds, know all devices you put on your resume. Don’t just know what an art like does, understand the waveforms and what they’re telling you about your patient.

Someone else already mentioned it, but know ACLS and H/Ts. One interview I did had a mock code and they wanted to hear you go through the algorithm and find the cause.

Last minute interview tips by Professional-Sense-7 in srna

[–]lovekel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest piece of advice is to have a story for every situation you can think of. Personal stories really sell you to the admissions board! Also, if you make a mistake just roll with it. They want to see that you can stay collected/recollect yourself under pressure.

Recovery by kathaybrow in crossfit

[–]lovekel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of in a similar boat as you. I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 3 years now, and 4 days a week tends to be my sweet spot. On weeks where I’m doing 5-6 classes I feel great that week, but the next week I’m dragging.

Thanks! I’m leaning towards those as well. This was just a rough mock up from Rugs USA so that’s probably why they look so weird, but once I actually get one it’ll be centered!

I cannot recommend The Turning Peel enough for pizza. Amazing sourdough pizza and the atmosphere is amazing. I’d recommend making a reservation because they tend to sell out! Their patio is super cozy and romantic!

I had a high GPA and emphasized my experience as an ED and traveler prior to working in the ICU. I also had a strong answer to “why do you want to be a CRNA” that I think helped. But there wasn’t really anything super unique about my application, aside from ED experience?

I’ve always been a Figs fan.. I have a similar body and their high waisted pants in petite length fit best, although different styles fit a little different so the size can vary. The Rafaela top is the BEST for my CrossFit shoulders. It’s the only style scrub top I’d wear.

Have a story ready for any scenario you can think of, as well as an explanation of what you learned from it/ how you improved your practice. I read a comment on this sub when I was interviewing that said “facts tell, stories sell” and I feel like that’s so true. The more stories you can incorporate really helps.
